Tony Adams will become a great manager

Arsène Wenger believes Portsmouth’s decision to sack Tony Adams was made too hastily.

The former Arsenal skipper succeeded Harry Redknapp at Fratton Park on October 28 but was dismissed on Monday after winning just two of his 16 Premier League games at the helm.

Adams admitted he was “surprised” to lose his first top-flight managerial job so quickly and Wenger can understand why. The Arsenal manager believes his former captain has all the ingredients to be a top-class manager and thinks that Portsmouth should have given him more time to prove his worth.

“I believe that Tony will be a very good manager and I don’t believe he was given the needed time,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“It is a big surprise that so quickly they made a big decision because when they made the decision to give him the job they knew he has worked there for a year and a half and they knew him.

“When you give a young manager that much responsibility you have to give him time.”
