So lets do what we always do..Lets blame the ref!!!

Rooney dived! The Van persie goal was offside! Lets blame the ref, YET AGAIN!

The sad fact is this…Same old Arsenal, Cant kill the game off after taking a lead! Lets face it if Van Persie had scored to put us 2-0 up we might have gone on and won the game. But it was a great save from the Utd keeper with his legs and that for me was the turning point of the game.

Lets take about the Man Utd Pen!

For me it was a pen, what the hell was Almunia doing coming for that anyway? Rooney was happy to go down and was looking for it agree, Almunia should of known that and stayed on his feet.

Yes maybe we were the better side on the day. But bad luck, poor finishing call it what you want. We lost fair n square. PLEASE don’t start blaming the ref YET again for a lose!

Lets look at ourselfs for a change?

Clichy and Sagna yet again let us down with balls into the box from the wings. Denilson and Song Careless with the ball and giving it away to much. Eboue on the wing ahead of Wilshere?

And Wenger wants to tell me that we dont needs new signings. Well i hope that this defeat will prove to many of you and Wenger that we are a very long way from being a team that’s going to challenge for the title.

Yes we are a “good” side and will fight for 4th place but that’s about it.

Wenger needs to swallow his pride and go out and bring in 3 world class players right down the spine of the team.

And some of you gooners need to except defeat like men and stop blaming the refs every time we lose.

My Ratings

Almunia 4 ( didnt need to come and give away the pen )
Sagna  4 ( poor crossing all game )
Gallas  7 ( Very solid again )
Vermaelen 7 ( see above )
Clichy 5 ( Same as Sagna, But got forward well)
Song 5 ( Terrble passing )
Eboue  4 ( Crap and booked for a disgusting dive )
Denilson 5 ( Same as song )
Diaby  7 ( did ok apart from the OG )
Arshavin 7.5 ( Scored a great goal but that was it )
van Persie 6.5 ( wasted up top on his own)

No one’s blaming the ref, it was just extremely bad luck. ManU didn’t deserve the win and unfortunately, stupid defensive errors gifted the game to them. While I won’t deny that another signing or two would be great, the main thing is that Arsenal brush this off and get back to winning.

  2. David C says:

Sorry, you are completely and utterly wrong. We controlled the game for long periods and they had three breaks; Rooney’s penalty, Diaby’s OG and the last minute offside.

I am not blaming the ref, although I notice you say nothing about the penalty WE should have had, I am not blaming anything. I am sorry we lost and I feel gutted, but I am proud of the players who gave everything and on another day would have beaten Utd and most other teams.

I don’t think we lost fair and square. We lost. We were the better team, but we lost. That’s what happens in football.

  3. Drew says:

fair article, but we did control the game// we just lost our way for a 10 minute period// i agree though we do need new blood in the team//

  4. Gunnerboy says:

Seriously u are an asshole for writing this post.So basically after one defeat then we would struggle to get in d top 4 d sad fact is people like u are neva satisfied i guess even if we had a world class team u would still complain we need something else i just hope in d process of getting new players we get new fans who dont whine like u.Ffs when we loose fair and square(champs leag) do we complain? No cos we know we deserved to loose but when d refree is a cunt then we can complain any how we want.Btw where is your senior brother in whining SINBAD?

  5. Sean says:

No lets just blame our piss poor Goalkeeper.

  6. Cypriot The Twat says:

    More shit from you poushto-malaka!
We were easily the better side, United’s penalty was their 1st shot on target. You’re talking fractions of margins – foster’s studs saving VanP, the crossbar, a foot offside. And the fact that you wrote this crap so quickly proves you’re an armchair supporter.

Won’t be coming back to this idiotic site when morons like you talk shit all the time. Bet you were jumping up & down at half-time, weren’t you wanker.

  7. Thor says:

What about the penalty we should have had then? Wenger getting sent off for kicking a bottle? Please. Something is terribly wrong within the establishment and there is a serious anti-arsenal bias that will stop us ever achieving anything. FACT!

Rake defeat like a man? Fuck off. How about being man enough to stand up to being cheated?

  8. Erichero says:

You were trying to bring balance to the discussion, and you ended up drifting to the other extreme. Poor article. Yes it was a pen, but to start blaming Arsenal for what was a very unfortunate loss is rather stupid.

  9. james says:

one thing ive noticed is although a lot of people are still annoyed at us not getting the penalty that was blatent in the first half, the game hadn’t really moved on very far before andrei rocketed it in top corner, i have no doubt this wouldn’t have happened if the penalty had been given. and personally i’d prefer this to a tap in from the spot.

  10. bill says:

I agree with goonerboy! 110% go hang!

  11. Ben says:

The amount of shite written on this site makes me think you must be Spurs supporters. You certainly don’t support Arsenal.

  12. rd says:

so when did jump on the Arsenal bandwagon? i did in 98.

  13. observer says:

Man U didn’t play like champions. Almunia and Diaby won them the game.

Yes, friend, trying to play the good guy? What have you got to say to the penalty denied for tackle on Arshavin.

    Thanks for supporting the referee.

  14. omar says:

your ratings are the worse i’ve ever seen in my life. u think we were playing cardiff or something? sagna 4? denilson, song and clichy 5? i swear u either havn’t seen the match or u know nothing about football

it’s true we lost and without blaming on anyone the fact is that when you go to places like old trafford or anfield u need abit of luck. we didn’t have that abit of luck and we lost, fair enough. but i thought the lads gave it all and they deserve alot of credit. players like song, denilson, diaby have improved alot and one loss doesnt change anything.

    ridiculous article

  15. f4phantomphreak says:

Why is everyone clammering for new signings?? You know as well as I do that AW will not be bringing in anyone no matter what we might think of todays performance, no matter. Look I love the Arsenal, and I was happy to see them beat Everton, and Pompey, but again it was Everton & Pompey, I knew this side wasn’t quite up to snuff for the Utd’s and Chelski’s, and I’m afraid now we can add Man Crappy into the gulf….. I truly believe this side will finish 5th or 6th especially if the Scum keep plugging along with ol’ twitchy at the helm. Anyway Up the Arse……..

  16. chris says:

ALMUNIA TO BLAME FOR BOTH GOALS !!

  17. A.SONG says:

You guys here are a fucking disgrace.man u or arsenal did not well, but what about the ref performance, fucking pathetic.you always wait till there something bad to talk about,Go support the fucking SPUDSSS……………

  18. geeGunner says:

Loads of gunners are disappointed but ulimately know we were a bit unlucky.

Fake Fools like you actually got a gripe with the players!

This site is for the truly FAKE FANS!

  19. sean says:

how was diaby better thn song and denilson! nd clichy only 5! wtf man! and giving almunia 4 is generous! crap post

  20. Andy says:

Fabulous result, used to have a soft spot for Arsenal but now understand why the song “Same old Arsenal….” came about.

I will will be keeping my fingers crossed that Man City take the fourth spot in the league!

  21. Jonathan says:

This game will be seen as a major turning point in these players development, a team ravaged by injury outclassed Utd away from home. Walcott Fabregas Nasri and Rosicky all out and we can still field a very impressive side. We are on the verge of greatness. You cant buy talent like Xavi Inestia Messi they were moulded in La Masia as we are now doing

  22. Tony Adams says:

Poor post. (I’ll say no more.)

  23. ritesh says:

    Disappointing article.

We played well. We need to focus on winning the easy matches and that will see us through.

I don’t see this Manure team winning at White Shit Lane next week but we will win at city.

Sometimes I feel though that maybe we should be bold if our team is attack minded, start with B52, and ask Diaby to be more defensive. It would have worked maybe, but its easy to be wise after the event and Eboue played extremely well last time, and tonight as well.

  24. Farooq says:

WTF are you on about mate! Clearly there should have been a penalty for the foul on Arshavin by Fletcher if not for the foul then for the hand because, the ball never touched fletchers feet it only touched his hands. Secondly the last goal was not offside because GALLAS NEVER TOUCHED THE BALL and VAN PERSIE AND EDUARDO WERE BOTH ONSIDE WHEN EVRA HEADED THE BALL DOWNWARDS. Atrocious decision by the referee (Which in all united matches go their way) the FA are a disgrace.

  25. GoonerTrue says:

I’m proud of the boys. We’ve received some good fortune in the past four wins – guess it was about time to give up some.

I wonder though how Wenger hoped to pull off a 4-5-1 formation without a proper target man up front (RvP was alone with AA as 2nd striker). It was always going to make us less offensive and thus invite a little more pressure on the defense. After selling the one who shall not be named, and with Bendtner not yet ready for the role, we should have stuck to the 4-3-3 that got us thus far. If we must play this formation before Bendtner can own the role convincingly, then IMHO we need Chamakh.

  26. Anibal says:

yes we lost, but your ratings are horrible, by looking at your rating it feels we got completely outclassed, that are players played like complete shit!!! and that wasent the case today, we out played united almost all the game!!! and i agree we should have finished the game off, but you got to admit, that was really unfair what happend today. and rooney was a dive, not as clear as eduardos, but it was clearly dive!!

  27. gooneramaan says:

welcome back sinbad…………Mate where were u ? I was really missing ur anti-Arsene post. you are right mate we will battle for 4th wat say Sinbad. U just love it when Arsenal fail. Because u never posted anything when Arsenal where thrashing their opponents, why Can’t you write anything positive u Spu*d, accept it Mike Dean is a cunt and my friend Arsenal were the Far better team throughout the match and I think Song Denilson and Diaby (take that Own goal away) where fantastic. And Wishere for Eboue, ru serious. I know Wilshere is good but not good enough for such pressure, such game can damage his self confidence so early in his career.

U anti Arsene, Mike Dean should be punished for Disrespecting Arsene.

  28. n5 skipper says:

sorry but awful post.. we controlled the game and deserved to win. Poor defending from diaby gave them the lead at the right time. To give such poor ratings to sagna and clichy is wrong hence the poor lack of creativity from united. If van persie scores everyones singing a diffrent tune.

  29. Andy says:

    Farooq permalink

Yes, very frustrating when blatantly wrong calls are made by referees isn’t it.

    Consider it karma.

  30. Farooq says:

Just watch the last part: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dArAyu3LR3s&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fgoonertalk.com%2F2009%2F08%2F29%2Fis-this-is-a-penalty%2F&feature=player_embedded#t=110

  31. akim says:

there is no way i cant blame the ref, no pen to us then he gives it to man u,half of the arsenal players got yellows, fletcher went away scot free,he even booked wenger…..many things to quote.bad ref

  32. Julian says:

Many valid comments. Yes, we need new players, etc. However, we were by far the better team, and I think Sagna had a good game. Poor finishing, maybe, but on other nights it might be a few millimetres in our favour and then we are up 2 goals. I have seen refs give the Arshavin penalty and I have seen some refusing the Rooney one. It was just not our night and I am extremely pissed off, but full of hope for the rest of the season, we are on the right track.

The most painful, however, is the Man U fans, who all celebrate a victory they do not deserve (in my opinion). I realised that I do not really hate Man U, but the fans of Man U makes it very difficult to like them.

  33. Farooq says:

I dont believe in Karma, I believe in horrible referees….

  34. orjan says:

Why this negative head line?? Arsenal have played 5 decent games this season… won 4 and lost 1 game away against united…Today we were unlucky – but it dosnt matter in the end. If we play like this rest of the season – I am sure we will be able to challenge for the title. So lets give our team some support!!! Go Arsenal!!!! Even if we of course is disapointed this evening.

  35. wengernose says:

    I agree, Wenger is clueless.

Why did he play Eboue from the start today?

Denilson Song and Diaby are crap. We need a hardman in CM.

Just seen Diarra score for R Madrid. The same player the cost £20m that Wenger said was shit

  36. afriX says:

fair post, 1st big challenge & Wenger’s weak links failed, it’s no coincidence the team has won nothing with Aluminium, he’s not gold & Diaby will never hav 3 great consecutive games. If Wenger doesn’t buy a couple of good experienced players, we will win zilch as usual

  37. Tunde says:

Wenger blivs in encouragin his lads.they r kids dat need support.so due 2 dat,I rily wont b surprised if Wenger doesnt sign nyone.am nt expectin ny signin again.

  38. Dave Winchester says:

Idiotic post. The ability to distinguish a performance from a result is an excellent way of telling whether someone knows anything about football. Needless to say, you failed. On the evidence of today, you wouldn’t be able to tell which team was supposed to win the title and which will allegedly be struggling to make the top 4.

  39. WELSH GUNNER says:

Your article is very poor. Anyone reading this who missed the game would think we were awful, when in fact we were very very good, excellent at times. Your too emotionally unbalanced to be a blogger and do not provide accurate reports or pro arsenal vibes. This is one loss we can walk away from with our heads held high, we out played them and lost to a debatable pen, (only debatable as i defy anyone else to expalin that rooney would have got that ball) and a terribly soft own goal. Your player ratings are shameful by the way.

  40. Collins says:

U dnt get it, were rubbed.in fact dean is not a world class ref he is foolish 4 not awarding arshavin’s pen.then he went on to give dived rooney a pen and you said we should’nt blame ref.as 4 wenger he has foggoten that injury is arsenal priority. Pls we need extra two players. Arshavin i luv his fantastic goal.

  41. Matt says:

Really poor article lacking balance on so many levels.

You fail to consider the performance & merely focus on the result. (In fact, given your comments, I have serious doubts that you actually watched the game)

We lost narrowly having outplayed united for much of the game. Last year united lost the majority of the big games yet won the title. If arsenal reproduce that performance against the majority of teams we won’t be far away this season. Song & denilson dominated the midfield & make your ratings seem as idiotic as your overall opinions.

Pull your neck in & think before you blog. In the meantime, come on you reds!

  42. danish gooner says:

We did oureslves very proud today compared to the horrendeous showing in the Big cup last season.Secondly,i think it is about time some called Rooney for what he really is,a disgusting cheating granny fucker.Thirdly, this new formation are gonna kill a lot of teams a long the way, i am almost certain that we are in for more 5 or 6-1 scores as against Everton.Fourth,if we had a decent striker we would have won today how come Van Persie are so lethargic in front of goal is it the curse off the pay rise like the togonator??????.It is very hard to see us challenge when we are missing 9 out of 10 big chances but luckily it is early days.

  43. SoCalReferee says:

It doesn’t matter that Gallas didn’t touch the ball. Go read Law 11 in the LOTG. He was definitely offside. The call was correct.

Fletcher should have been called for a penalty, I agree. But who cares? We got a magical thunderstrike from Arshavin instead.

As for the penalty Rooney won, I do think it was a dive, but only on the basis of the slow motion replay. Rooney’s legs start their collapse before Almunia makes contact. No different from the penalty we were given against Celtic really … just your typical striker trick. This dive isn’t as obvious though, so we’re not likely to get the same mileage out of whining about it, like Celtic did.

The article here really is unbalanced. I agree that Mike Dean didn’t lose the game for us. That said, the ratings are insane. Give credit to Clichy and Sagna for running their asses off and defending exceptionally. And Denilson and Song both had fine games.

Ironically, I thought Arshavin had a bit of a howler outside of two moments of brilliance.

  44. jj says:

How stupid can a man be?? This article gave me the answer!!
I wish you all the best, You need it…. badly.

  45. goonergerry says:

To get a result here you always have to beat the referee as well. Benitez is absolutely right about the tyrant Ferguson he has every ref in the country running scared. Arshavin had a dead cert penalty in this game not given. Uniteds players know that they will get any 50/50 penalty decison and the opposition will get none. What a massive advantage that is. To beat United at Old Trafford it is not enough to be much the better side. You have to eliminate any possibility of a penalty.
The premier league is crap- it is an unregulated monpoly -supported by the media. Lets be clear about this we have the lowest standard of refereeing in Europe in the EPL. Only Chelsea have the faintest chance of winning the league and not because United are a better side than liverpool and the others. Referee bias in favour of Manchester United has killed competition in the EPL.

  46. briwall says:

Bad post. 2 stupid mistakes cost us, thats it. How many more times though is Eboue going to embarrass us by diving or over acting an injury? Especially after all the fuss with Eduardo this week, he really is brain dead. Please AW, get rid of him.
Man ure fans up to their usual antics with the peado chant, scum.

  47. SoCalReferee says:

Totally agree except for one thing … it doesn’t really matter Rooney would have chased down the ball. The location of the ball doesn’t change the fact that the referee believes a player has been tripped in his opponent’s penalty area.

Location of the ball matters (among other things) for deciding if a DOGSO offense has occurred, which is why Almunia only saw yellow, not red.

  48. Chad Doobray says:

Don’t think anyone will really blame the ref – it was a typical performance, slightly favouring the home side – that’s football.

However, Rooney’s dive was poetically close to Eduardo’s. Guess that’s karma, but you can only hope that both players are given equal treatment retrospectively.

  49. Max Compton says:

Hey Cypriot Gooner, you don’t exactly take defeat like a man, do you?. We lost because of a couple of individual errors by Aluminium and Diaby so quit blaming Sagna, Eboue, Clichy, Denilson and co. you big girls blouse.

  50. james says:

Gutted for Diaby this guy was unplayable in the second half ever seen a player that can shield the ball with his body like he does? and not just that he was very strong and powerful and showed some great skill. I think he was in two minds when in the own goal, he probably thought Almunia was coming to claim the ball.
