[Reports] Joe Cole Signs for Arsenal in 3 year deal?

Reported in todays “Metro

Joe Cole ‘to join Arsenal on free transfer after signing three-year deal’

Joe Cole could be on the verge of making a shock move from Chelsea to Arsenal on a free transfer after rumours emerged today he has signed a three-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

According to reports, Cole’s representatives met up with Arsenal officials yesterday to thrash out the terms of the deal while the midfield playmaker was being called up to England’s World Cup squad by Fabio Capello.

Barring any complications in the process the transfer is expected to be finalised next week, with a view to announcing the move before the tournament in South Africa begins in ten days’ time.

The rumours follow hot on the heels of comments by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp earlier today, when he admitted he believes Cole has agreed in principle to a move to another Premier League.

‘It looks to me that someone’s going to make a great free transfer,’ Redknapp is quoted as saying.

‘I genuinely don’t know who that is, but I don’t think it’s going to be Tottenham.

‘I’ve got a feeling – and I may be wrong – that he’s already agreed a deal with someone.

‘I’m a big fan of Joe’s, and I would be interested if he didn’t stay at Chelsea, but the feedback we’ve had is that he might well have already done something.’

If true, the news would be a huge boost for Arsenal fans still reeling from the revelation that captain Cesc Fabregas could be leaving the club to join boyhood team Barcelona this summer.

Cole’s signing also fits in with the Arsene Wenger transfer philosophy in that the England international would represent a shrewd bit of business.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at Chelsea and would be available on a free transfer.

And while his wage demands may have presented a stumbling block – given the Blues are reluctant to meet his expectations – Wenger is said to be more willing to offer larger contracts to players in a bid to build a title-winning team.

Former West Ham United star Cole is also believed to be keen to stay in London, as partner Carly Zucker has recently given birth to a son and is reluctant to relocate.

It was always going to be a London club (with Carly being London based and him mates with Lampard & Terry), but I wish it wasn’t us; particularly after some of the uncomplimentary things he’s said in the past and the fact that he’s a prematurely balding shite brain. Still looks like we’ve got him and have to look at the plusses. If he shaves his head completely, keeps his mouth shut, stays mostly injury free and plays as well as we all know he can then he’ll be a valuable addition; but most definitely not a Cesc replacement.

Don’t think it’s complete rubbish at all. As soon as I heard Harry’s quote saying Cole had already agreed a deal with another club, I thought it would be Arsenal. Harry actually also went public weeks before we signed Sol from T*ttenham all those years ago – saying he believed he was going to Arsenal! Bless him, Harry just simply can’t keep his gob shut! 🙂

I think cole is just the start of a busy two months of player traffic. We have a lot of squad members leaving on frees and imagine that they will all be replaced, some internally, but the goalkeepers and centre backs will be bought in. For what its worth I can see hart/green,savic,zapata,van der wiel & richards coming in.

He grew up on the Market Road Estate just off the Cally – can’t believe he could’ve supported anyone else living around there? Certainly, all he’s mates would’ve been Gooners!

Apparently he grew up supporting Chelsea. Still, if true and Joey’s on board, I’m a happy cunt 🙂

Not a chance. To have 4 small playmakers in one team is ridiculous.
We already have nasri, cesc, arshavin. Cole is the exact same player as them.
wenger already has enough injury prone players-rosicky and RVP! he would never risk another!
    no thanks and no chance.

cole is deffo not a cesc replacement but he’s still a quality player, very direct, not afraid to shoot and got skills up to his eye balls.

Fck it if he’s a on a free we’ll have the chav!!!

Every signing reducing the the influence of the French pack is good for me especially with both Sylvestre and Gallas also leaving.

Too many french players making the club soulless.

I’m sure Man City will steam in with an absurd deal…BUT if Arsenal got him it’d be great!

I think AW will use him to plug the gap until Ramsey comes to the fore.

You’re ‘Fuk wit’ more like mate!!
I suppose you’ve conveniently forgotten when virtually the whole regular England back four was Arsenal haven’t you?! …. Seaman, Dixon, Keown, Adams, Winterburn was the line-up for a match at Wembley v Italy.

    June 2, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Really not sure of this one. Great player but if he’s injury prone then who knows. Like many said, not as big as we would like but would add to squad depth. Experienced and English. Worth a punt.

If it is true – then a typical Wenger transfer – another small injury-prone midfield player when we desperately need a new GK, 2 tall centre-halves and a defensive ball winner in midfield!

Hate the Chaviness coming form that Club but they have treated him poorly. He is one of the technically better English players along with his namesake. If there was a better player than him in the England side at the WC it would be fat bollocks up front.

For free I say lets do it, wages will be high but he can be a mentor to Little Jack.

Cole can play up the right wing and this might be the end of Rosicky

    June 3, 2010 at 3:46 am

    joe cole (free),
    inler(def mid) (15m),
    richards(cb and rb) (10m),
    a tall strong (cb) (10m)
craig bellemy (cf and left wing) (6m)
    total: 41m

    sell eddy (7-10m)
    total:7-10m

loan: wishare, jet, baratize, bartley, denielson (to a spanish club) (promote lansbury)…

fab is staying .. wenger wont sell him(good news)

(any gk will find it very difficult at arsenal as we play a very high def line )
(if want to avoid the opponents from scoring we need to defend from the front right from the striker
colse down the opponents as soon as they get the ball just as everton do)

we will next season if get the right players and keep all key players..

we were never short of a striker… this season … our striker’s were useless no one performed apart from van the man and nikki b (eddy, arshavin, walcott, vela were all not effective when given the oppourtunity)

i have a strong feelin walcott will be a very good player next season specially after being left by fabio… he will want to prove that he is a quality player and a fully motivated walcott will be a delight to watch.

This definately can happen, its there for the taking. This should definately happen, he is a class act, has a winning mentality and lots of experience to boot. However, this moves makes so much sense to all involved, which is exactly what worries me, it is too straight forward for Wenger. Something tells me Wenger won’t do this because he isn’t some 4 year-old, unheard of French/Spanish/African etc etc he can take the glory for moulding into a star. Hope I am wrong though.
