Guus Hiddink – “The German passport for Mesut Özil is false”

Arsenal target Mesut Özil is playing for German in this summers World Cup with “false documents”, thats according to the new Turkey manager Guus Hiddink

Guus Hiddink, the new coach of Turkey’s national team, was asked about Mesut Ozil by a collection of Italian journalists. Ozil has a Turkish father and was apparently very keen on playing for Turkey until eventually deciding on Germany, where he was born.

Hiddink was told a reporter from itasportpress.it

“The German passport for Mesut Özil is false. The document was falsified to allow Özil to play for Germany, although he is entitled to play for them.”

Ozil was born in the German city of Gelsenkirchen. Some have speculated that this is just ‘sour grapes’ on behalf of Hiddink, but for a manager so respected in World Football to make a comment like this, he must know something we don’t.

  2. Otoo says:

They stole Jerome Boateng as well after a meeting with Ghanaian officials (his father comes from Ghana), they brainwashed him to play for Germany.

  3. mafika, south africa,gooner 4 life says:

They did it with our Sean Dundee,in 1995 he was here to play first match for SOUTH AFRICA against Germany, suddenly he had an injury in training and never wanted to play for us

  4. Jake says:

Sour grapes from Hiddink. He should be above this kind of thing. I thought he had class.

  5. bd10god says:

if he was of german decent and was allowed to play for them anyway, what would he gain by having false documents? grow up guss!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Legoon says:

Then if this is true Germany should be kicked out the world cup for playing a ringger.

Nice post AA and love the new look of the forum and blog

  7. Irish gooner says:

I think the whole idea of players being eligible to play for a country just because they were born in that country is wrong, it should be decided on your parents nationality, grand parents etc etc its this that gives you your nationality and identity

  8. MM says:

No, this was a mistranslation. Hiddink said that Özil chose the wrong passport (falscher Pass) – falsch means wrong. He should have chosen the Turkish passport, then he would have played for the Turkey team under Hiddink. This was actually a compliment, but it is being misreported everywhere!

  9. SJ says:

as already said, this was a complete mistranslation. And btw it’s absolutely right thing that Ozil plays for Germany since he was born and learned to play football there.

  10. damian says:

this is ridiculous he was born i Germany he is eligible

  11. Vladimir says:

    Dont you mean Turkish guys.

It is wrong that he chose to play for Germany. He might have learned to play football there but he probably would have played football if he grew up in turkey. He is a Turk as his blood is 100% Turkish
