Zapata “YES”, Schwarzer “NO”

Transfer Talk

Today we are linked with a player who I have admired for a long time Cristian Zapata. He is just the type of defender we need. Big, powerful and very fast. He is almost like a mix of Gallas and Campbell. So when I saw this pop up on newsnow this morning I was pretty cuffed…Talk about a £15m move for Zapara (23), But his agent has already said that there is NO bids on the table from Arsenal yet. But lets hope there is something in this…

Moving on and I see the Mark Schwarzer deal is back on. I was hoping that after his poor show in the world cup we would be looking elsewhere. I cant see the logic in spending £4m on a keeper who cost NOTHING 2 seasons ago when Fulham signed him on a FREE. And now at almost 38 whats the point? I know what people are going to say? Look at Edwin van der Sar at Man Utd… But lets make it clear! Van der sar has always been a top keeper and has played in the champions league and at top clubs like Juventus. Mark Schwarzer has never played at the top level or for a big club. Playing for teams like Marconi Stallions,Bradford City,Middlesbrough and who has look “OK” but never world class and always prone to make a mistake. So whats the point in spending £4m (The most Wenger has EVER spent on a keeper) on a 38 year old? pointless…. Forget this clown and go and sign Frey FFS.

Anyway... Debate this more on the forum

    Agree about Frey. Quality.
    Agree about Schwarzer. Average.
Agree about Zapata. Quality – but unlikely we’ll get him.

I still strongly believe that Micah Richards under the Wenger tutelage is a snip at £6m. Was the brightest of the new generation 2 years ago.

Mark Schwarzer playing in the World Cup and other Internationals, is not playing at the top level?? Sure he makes mistakes but what keeper doesnt? At 4M pounds he’s cheap!

Agree with you on both. But known our luck Wenger will sign Schwarzer and not the big defender

    Totally agree with this,

ideally i would like us to get cahill, but would be happy with zapata.

but goal keeping situation, i think we should leave schwarzer, monitor man city situation and get who ever isnt there number 1,a nd also consider frey if either city is a no no.

i feel wenger wants a short term option as he is intrested in hugo loris next season!!

Charlie agree, But the short term option for me is because Wenger may feel that Wojciech Szczesny is not ready. So maybe thats why he is looking at Schwarzer. But £4m for a 38 yr old dogey keeper is wayyyyyyyyy 2 much. If he was on a free like Poom I could see what Wenger would be thinking about.. BUT £3/4m??? come on

If Arsene Wenger fails to bring in a world-class goalkeeper, he is guilty of short-changing the fans, again. Didn’t he pay £5m for Richard Wright? No disrespect, but are Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City or Spurs talking of a 35 year old centre-half? And did anyone else in England want Gallas? He played better at left-back for Chelsea than he ever has at centre-half for us! Wenger said he was confident of silver-ware last season, but in reality, against the Premier Lge & Europe’s best, we were out of our depth. Yes we had injuries, but so did other clubs, and in the final stretch when it really mattered, we went missing. We couldn’t even keep a 2-goal lead at Wigan! I want the European Cup more than the title, and I don’t think Mr Wenger is good enough to deliver it. Most of his ‘cheap’ buys were cheap for good reason. van der Sar cost Man Utd £2m, so what was Wenger doing? We bought Arshavin, Spurs bought Modric for the same money. Arsenal, and particularly Arsene Wenger, need to step up and raise their game.

I too like Zapata — both as a partner for Vermaelen and as competition/coverage across the back four

Gooner Dan.. We only paid about £3m for Wright. The fee was will alot of extra’s that we didnt end up playing

I would welcome Zapata to Arsenal. The 35 year-old centre-half I refer to is Sol Campbell. Celtic and Sunderland want him, but we’ve put an offer on the table too. Why? His best days are gone, that’s why Celtic and Sunderland want him. Why did Arsene Wenger confess that he could have bought Drogba for £100,000 but instead bought Kanu for £4m, and then Adebayor for £7m, neither of whom are anywhere near Drogba’s quality? Arsene Wenger said ‘Drogba doesn’t do a lot…’ Except destroy every team Wenger has put up against him for the past six years! We were lucky with Adebayor, that Mark Hughes had more money than sense. Our failure to compete is more than annoying, it’s downright depressing.

i would not mind any cb as far as he is good

Wenger doesn’t buy the best players, only the cheaper or cheapest ones. We’ve only spent money on one new face so far ( Koscielny ), and the reason we haven’t got any more yet, is because Wenger is counting the pennies, instead of showing boldness and making sensible bids. We’ll probably wait till the last minute of the last day of the transfer window before we get any more .
Have we got a coach – or an accountant masquerading as one ?
    “In Arsene we rust”.

I’m sure it was about 10 mil we paid for Richard Wright. And I’m sure we’ve paid more than 4 mil down the years. We’ve been linked with Zapata in the past, never seen him play so can’t comment. I have seen Schwarzer play and think he’s error prone big time. He may have kept Boro in the Prem for a few years longer than they should have and got Fulham, to the Euro final but I don’t rate him in the slightest. We should do a mass raid on Ajax, Van Der Wiel, Stekelenberg, Suarez. Yes please!

He’ll go for the cheapest he can get as usual. he’d certainly be great running a bank.

Wenger will fall short, he always does. When are we going to get a fucking DM? Every year we have to watch that lazy sack of shit Denilson. I mean fucking hell, Denilson can’t even get near the Brazil squad, they’re still playing Gilberto who we got rid of years ago. Diaby’s just as bad.
