Are Arsenal about to drop out of the top 4?…

This was posted on our main forum today-arsenalaction.com/forum/

By The Mad Muller

Every season under Wenger Arsenal have finished in the top 4 and made it into the Champions league place.

But with Man City spending like mad, and who will not only be pushing us for 4th but will be looking to win the league, Spurs who are improving and pushed us all the way for 3rd last season and will Liverpool set to improve under new management I fear that this coming season will be a new dawn at Arsenal and will see us dropping out of the top 4 for the first time.

All good things must come to an end and we have enjoyed a great run at the top. But due to a lack of serious investment and ambition from our management and board we are no longer a team that will be challenging for the title but a team looking to break into the top 4.

Wenger has said that coming 3rd is better then winning the FA Cup? This shows that he only cares about making it into the Champions league and making money.

Sorry to say but our days of going 49 games unbeaten and winning the double are long gone and I doubt we will ever see them days again.

Best enjoy the memories and DVDs, its going to be a dark future for us gooners.

It is forbidden to assume arsenal will finish out of the top 4 cos most people will complain 3rd is below expectations

  2. N5 CHU says:

Why do so-called Arsenal Supporters always talk shit?
How can a true supporter speculate on us finishing lower than we should do?

    2nd maybe even 1st!

  3. DeiseGooner says:

have you finished your will and said all your goodbyes before you top yourself??

  4. jimbo says:

    i agree

  5. philippe says:

Blimey its being so cheerful that keeps you going isn’t it? We get this every year from the manc loving media, let’s not do it ourselves eh? Spurs will come unstuck trying to play in the champions league, Liverpool won’t have their team sorted. Citeh are serious challengers if they don’t implode and manyoo and the chavs will be up there again. We may not have spent money like water but if we keep injury free, have a captain whose head is in the right place and show a bit of steel in defence (jagielka please) … and dare I say it, don’t get distracted by the latter stages of the champs league when our squad is thinner …. we have as good a chance as any of them.

  6. Gooooooner1886 says:

Yeah course, We’ve been out of the top 4 for the past 5 years ¬_¬

  7. kudos says:

N5 CHU wtf are you on about……. I hope you are right but we havent finished 2nd or 1st in over 5 yrs so why now will we.
So called arsenal supporters …. wake up realise we havent got the money nor the squad to compete u retarded prat !

  8. GunnerX says:

Without doubt the competition for a top 4 spot is hotting up and we’re just couple of signings away from having a competitive squad. I would be very surprised if we fail to make those additions in the next few weeks, and providing we do, then I believe we’ll be there or thereabouts.

  9. Jack says:

This is a pointless question seeing as we are not competing for 4th place

  10. Steero says:

I totally agree with this, we now need to invest get a top goalkeeper and CB and CM 30m could do it, remember we got 40m from City last year where has that gone.

Its been too long and the fans are starting to see through the board, all these broken promises on money its complete bollocks.

    Maarten Stekelenburg 8m
    Zapata 10m
    Inker 12m

  11. gunnerfishing says:

Just because we dont spend silly money on players people like you write us off every year. Go and support Totnum they will be on the blogs soon saying the same old stuff as previous years gone by.

  12. kudos says:

Oh how original go down the road and support tottenham…. (totnum) as you say…. Oh yer lets all have the blinkers over our eyes again I`m a season ticket holder for over 20 years and everyone I know says the same about Wenger and the board where has the money gone and why dont we buy quality players…. so where do all you go down the lane tits sit please tell me and we can meet next season??
Oh yer you watch it from home on saturday night or on a dodgey sat channel ina boozer sipping 1 glass of cocke GET REAL !

  13. Baldy says:

Lol, this is doom mongering at it’s best. “I doubt we will ever see them days again”, lol what are you smoking mate? It’s been 5 years, that’s all, we’ve been for longer periods than that without winning anything in the past, jeez man.

All these forums are the same, run by some dude who’s been supporting the team like 5 minutes & thinks running & managing a successful team is the same as it is on Championship Manager on their Playstation.

I’m sorry, I don’t wish to appear rude & I’m not being disrespectful but this entire article reeks of someone who got annoyed because his mates have been giving him shit whilst he was at the pub earlier & decided to just write this nonsense in 5 minutes.

Now, take a deep breath, chill out my friend & take your girlfriend/wife/partner out for a nice meal & a couple of beers, enjoy yourself, you’ll feel so much better :-)

  14. stephen says:

i think arsenal will be the champions this season. and its man united how will be out of the top 4 with there best players getting past it and no money to invest in new players. and Liverpool with no money to invest in new players .and the spuds how will not Abel compete for the champions league and fa cup league cup and the premiership with the players they have got and Chelsea best player are getting to old .and as for man city with all the player they have it will take then half a season to gel together . so its arsenal for the league come on you gunners.

  15. DB says:

havent even kicked off the season and your are spouting negative crap. You sir are a twat. I really hope you dont have a season ticket because you sure as fuck dont deserve one. You must be mates with that other twat Sinbad from another doomers blog

  16. chika says:

pls if u have nothing to reasonable to write about just simply piss off.

  17. anon says:

on a day filled with the good news that the spuds are going to piss off to east london after the olympics you have to go and spoil it by scribbling down this crap. i curse my eyes for reading it.

arsenal fight for the title every year not top 4

buy a decent goalkeeper wenger and the title is ours…

  18. GoonerGooner says:

Wenger is a total lying cunt. I have lost all faith in him, the final straw being that gutless spineless loss to fucking wigan away plus wengers total lack of tactical nouse when it came to his subs that day. Arsenal has become his hobby and he has lost his winning mentality.

    I support Arsenal, not arsene.

  19. RedCurrant says:

Bet you’d love it if we failed, wouldn’t you? Miserable b***er! ;-)

  20. Wallace Poulter says:

Hey there… I’m the Manchester City correspondent over on Soccernet. Enjoy the way Arsenal play and in fact picked them as my surprise prediction to win the league last year (you can look it up on soccernet – it’s still there). And frankly with 10 games to go I thought Arsenal were going to win it, the lack of spending in January to pick up a striker seemed to do you in. Then again City failing to buy a LB costs us a League Cup…

For what it’s worth I don’t think City will make the CL places this year. Teams win the league and get CL places rather than a collection of talent – which is what City have. Now hopefully the following year with a settled side City can challenge but until then I don’t think so. United will probably win the league (which kills me), Liverpool will be vastly improved and Spurs are a good team (it’s a good unit) who I suspected will be a little overwhelmed by playing in four competitions.

I really like your Arsenal team, it’s been together for a while and is quality. That usually means a title challenge. Funnily enough it is Chelsea who I see struggling with a lot of experience leaving their team in midfield and Drogba injured. And everyone is over looking Everton who were in some ways the class of the Premier League for a couple of month spell around the new year.

If you asked me today I’d say United, (2nd or 3rd) Arsenal/Liverpool, (4th of 5th) Chelsea/Spurs and (6th or 7th) Manchester City/Everton. I don’t think it’s doom and gloom for the Gunners at all.

  21. GoonerGaz says:

    Doom fukin gloom

  22. gooner91 says:

blimey im used to hearing this kind of talk mid way through the season at the earliest. But before weve even kicked a ball in the 10/11 season? thats just ridiculous.
nice to see some fans have still got faith in their team, suddenly man city and spurs r guranteed to finish above us because theyve spent money? i was under the impression you actually had to play football to get points in the premiership

  23. Sammy Nelson Vivas says:

The problem that nobody seems to have touched on is Arsenal have lost comfortably to our main rivals at home for the past two seasons. The worrying thing as an Arsenal fan is that hasn’t happened before in the AW era and it hasn’t happened to Arsenal since I started watching in 1969. Now that may not mean much to the youngsters but this is the worst we’ve been against top clubs I’ve ever known. We’ve always been able to see off the top flight teams at home, or scrape a draw. Or at the very least lose by the odd goal.

However, we have been humiliated a few times in recent seasons by Chelsea and Man U at home. And the worrying thing for me is we’ve been shown to be weak each time in central midfield, central defence and in goal. Sadly there isn’t anything there AW has done that will change that.

Sure, give me a hard time and call me names, but I would prefer if you could let me know what you think we’ve got that we didn’t have when we failed last time against these guys???

  24. Aaron says:

Nice to see all us Gooners getting on!… No matter if your a season ticket holder, or a guy 200 miles away, watching on a dodgy satellite chanel, we are still Arsenal fans, and entitled to our oppinions…

I wouldnt insult fellow gooners with below the belt comments… But my own personal oppinion is that the doom and gloom is a bit much… We should be proud of Arsenal… I would take the pure class of Arsene and the club as a whole during the disgusting public persuit of our captain any day over trophies… Thats just me…

The rewards for the way Wenger changed/improved the club will be reaped for years to come…

Anyway, a couple of tweeks here and there, and we have a damn good team to challenge at the top this season too… we are not THAT far away are we?

    Up the Arsenal!

  25. stephen says:

if your a arsenal fan how need enemy’s

  26. jockney says:

Well said sammy nelson vivas…. WE did get totaly outplayed by man utd chelsea last season also man city huh.
But dont ever dare to criticise wenger or the board or you will be told to piss off down to chelsea west ham or spurs !!!!

  27. cnutsteppa says:

you miserable bastard……. yes we are out of a top four purely because citeh’s financial clout has made it a top five. so carry on spooning myles palmer you yiddo urchin.

  28. aaron says:

simple (but stupid) question, simple answer….NO

I am actually wondering whether you are confusing the south american arsenal club with the London based arsenal those of us on this comments section support. Seriously, are u on something?

I know some supporters are a little frustrated at the lack of signings in key areas at the moment but hey, the transfer window is not yet closed, stop having a fit.
I fully expect a new goal keeper and at least 1 more defender. the question is…once we get 1 more decent defender and a new goalie, dont you think we will be stronger than we were last season? i certainly would think so.

  29. Good to be a GOONAH!! says:

hahaha. What a moron you are. Good luck with that.

  30. BigL says:

I doubt very much that Man City will win the league this year, all those new players will take time to gel, but I’m sure they’ll be there or there about. Next year they’ll be a real threat to win.

Our inability (for whatever reason) to buy quality players over the last few years will hurt us now with Man City becoming stronger. We are still playing catch-up to Man United and Chelsea and have been 2 or 3 signings short for the last 5 years.

As for last year, yes we came close, but we only finished 3 points better of than the previous season in what was a very poor competition.

I’m looking forward to the start of the season, but will be surprised if we actually win anything.

Wenger is right about one thing however, with this understrength side he insists on playing, top four is like a trophy.

  31. One Aaron Ramsey says:

So what of Citeh spending all this money. Look at their players. Quality, no unity and have almost no real linkages. Their team will take years to find any common ground and develop a game. If they do well, its simply because they just bought several talented players for a outrageous price. Imagine having to sell 12 players in the next few weeks!! Let that be 12 solid players. We have a team that has worked together before. Just look at Nasri. Give this team till christmas and you will see. Top 3 is guaranteed. ARSENAL TILL I DIE!!!

STOP THE NEGATIVE ARSENAL COMMENTS. In ARSENE we trust!

  32. dollar mighty says:

yes we will, wenger out,he’s gone stale, mancity took 4 points off us last year and that was with a lesser team, think what they will do to us now,not worth thinking about, then there’s our usual battering from united and chavs,we are fucked,Wenger out.

  33. Kumaskama says:

why don’t you name this site, ‘doomsday merchants ‘r’ us and I really hope we don’t win anything because then I can take immense pleasure from saying I was right when I’m having the 5hit beaten out of me outside the Armoury for pointing out my powers of prophecy’?

  34. Smudger says:

Dark, dark future indeed for Gooners. I think it’s time to pack up the blog and ride off into the wilderness. With Spurs improving all the time (i.e. not signing anyone, having a back four consisting of raspberry ripples etc) and Man City looking to win the league (with stellar results such as losing to a two-bit yank side and Sporting Lisbon), not to mention Liverpool (complete turmoil), it’s all over for us.

Indeed, as a side that has never finished outside of the top 4 under Arsene Wenger, we are a team looking to break into the top 4. With players like Fabregas and van Persie we just cannot compete with world class stars like Gareth Barry, Jo, Maxi Rodriguez, Jovanovic, and the chance of challenging a team with Tom Huddlestone and Peter Crouch is minimal.

This blog is like a turd that won’t flush (…without wanting to be disrespectful to any turds out there)

  35. Lanza Gooner says:

Absolute guff, what are you talking about? What are you after web hits? Guess you got em looking at the response. Complete gob shite.

  36. Curt.B says:

Quite the opposite I must say…. I feel like, with a bolstering of the defence/gk, we could be winning the title this season.

Remember, man City started from scratch, basically. We have an already prepared foundation of good players.

  37. Gunner10 says:

I think this is good, I mean, last year so many bloggers were predicting us to drop to the middle of the table and we ended up fighting for the title almost the whole season.

So dropping out of the top 4? wow, we might actually win it then!

  38. Sammy Nelson Vivas says:

Man City maybe won’t win the league this season, but looking honestly at what they have and what we’ve got, I would suggest they have more chance than us. Purely because they have built a solid squad based on a backbone of quality that runs from the keepers through the central defence, central midfield to the forwards.

Sadly Arsene seems to be of a closed mind like GG was in 1994/95 – too interested in his own ideas and not interested in the club. It’s obvious the players we have been bringing in recently are too short, too slight and not good enough. And present that against the teams that have beaten us in the past few years and AW has been happy to concede we are no longer as good as Man U and Chelsea, or Man City. How else can it be explained?

I honestly hope AW gets it together and starts winning trophies again. Sadly I really don’t see him doing it. I’ve been watching Arsenal for 40 seasons and I hate to say it but we look like a team in decline in a great stadium, run by businessmen to do just enough to earn the cash without the success, with the hope that maybe one day we’ll get lucky…

  39. murphy1118 says:

Sounds like someone has been listening to the idiot pundits a bit too much. OI, number 9, you’re a donkey!

  40. dan says:

you say citi have top players ay. toure. k average his brother not wanted at barca or arsenal average, veiera too old, robinho want to leave, this new left back untested in the prem, bridge average, jo average. they have lots of average players and also some good players, bellemy, tevez, given. too many average players will be a problem this year. i believe arsenal will win this year.
arsenal do need anew keeper and a cback. you lack intelligence to think we will fall.

  41. Matt says:

Shame on you, even Mancs have a brighter and more sensical outlook on our team that you do. You’re officially joining the fray of blog whores who spread FUD and lies to get page traffic.

  42. Mehdi says:

For the past four years pundits and bloggers start out the season by saying that Arsenal are a candidate to fall out of the top 4. The closest we came is Lasagna gate. If it was any other team other than the scum, we might have. Since then, while we haven’t been the class in the league, we have been one of the best teams. Will people please just let the season play out and see what happens. Are you just waiting for the one year when it does happens so you could be there waiting saying “I told you so”? Just stop with his complete and utter bullshit already.

  43. David says:

I’ve been watching Arsenal 40 Years as well Sammy Nelson Vivas and you are not alone in your thoughts as pretty much everyone I sit close to feels the same way.
Now I think that we will finish top 4 and would be very surprised if we didn’t but Arsene has really got to buy a solid foundation for what is a pretty but flimsy team who physically can’t handle a bit of bite in the tackle. (and no ..I’m not talking about birmingham, and Stoke before we go down that road… thats not bite that thuggery) We need a dominant centre back to pair with Vermaelen… a gilberto like holding midfielder with 5-10 goals in him….a goalkeeper who has some stature… and surprisingly to some of you a winger who can go past someone…. I like theo but he’s a centre forward if ever I’ve seen one not a winger. So in my view we need 4 players of the 7-10 million type and we will be a very good team who can give anyone a game in the world…what will we get …two at most and one of those will be cheap and risky. Now if we get to xmas in 6th place and looking dodgy for the champions league spots…watch the board gamble 20 million then for the 40 million prize pot… it just makes me sick to think we are close to being a top top team if only Wenger would acknowledge his masterplan has come up 2-3 players short.

  44. clockendjim says:

If we sign a world class goalkeeper and a monster centre half to form a partnership with Vermaelen, then I think we could actually be champions. If we do not plug these ominous holes in our squad and continue to gift wrap goals to the opposition, then sadly we could drop out of the top 4.
With the great financial situation the club is in, can anyone understand why we are spoiling th ship for a happence of tar.

  45. mystic says:

What a load of tosh this article is. A lot of doom & gloom soothsayers had Arsenal dropping down at least a position and thus out of the top 4 last season – what happened, they improved to 3rd. Stop spouting & churning over the nonsense about Arsenal. Reality is that last season we lost the title from the defeat at whl onwards. Arsenal missed the title by 11pts, which in case anyone failed to notice was actually 2pts less than they dropped in the final 7 league games!.

Arsenal / mancs / chavs will probably fill the top 3 spots, with Liverpool / citeh filling the final CL spot. Ironically it might well be the spending power that ultimately upsets citeh’s season. With a squad size restricted to 25players, they will be looking at a large scale pre-season fire sale – where those players end up (Ireland / Richards / Given……..?) could be citehs undoing!.

Only a fool starts to write off a team with players such as Vermaelen / Arshavin / Fabregas / Nasri / van Persie……. before the season has even started – and with 5 weeks of the transfer window still left, well it is ridiculous.

  46. Rhyle says:

how insightful. written off before a ball’s been kicked. I’m not optimistic of our chances of the title but to write us off at this stage of pre-season? As your sister puts it – it’s all a bit premature…

  47. Sammy Nelson Vivas says:

Whatever Dan. Sure K-Lo is average but he was at Arsenal for most of the time. Sure Robinho wants to leave but he didn’t really play that much last season. As for Vieira, they’re only using him to help the youngsters, which is what we should have done.

All you guys keep saying is wee need a monster GK and CD. Great, but it ain’t happening, is it??????

  48. Sammy Nelson Vivas says:

Lack intelligence? Come back at the end of next season son and discuss, eh? ;)

  49. Stroller says:

Pure guess-work mate, and pretty flaky guess-work as well. Negative predictions and speculations may well fill blogs in the absence of real evidence, but these presumptions are stretching it more than a bit. So Man City have spent a bomb – has that ever ensured success in the past? No. So Spurs managed 4th – but been closer to us on points before and not yet managed to overtake. So in-debt Liverpool have replaced their manager – does that mean they will improve overnight? Doubtful.

  50. Cesc says:

we have been about to drop out of the top 4 for last 5 years aint happened then aint gonna happen now
