Lets just say that we got lucky!
Wenger said before the game that whoever was in goal today would be our “Number one” keeper.
Almunia got the nod and was back to his old self.. Flapping for crosses and got beat at his near post. Not as bad as the mistake by Pepe Reina in the last min that allowed us to salvage a point vs the 10 men.
I see a few posts on the forum blaming Almunia for costing us 3pts today? Why are you blaming Almunia?
We all said that poor old Almunia was not good enough for Arsenal at the end of last season.
But what did we do? Did we go out and address this? No?… We made him our captain.So please dont blame a player who is doing his best but is not good enough. Blame the manager who keeps picking him and is to stuborn to see this.

- 06 Laurent Koscielny – 7/10 : Did ok, Showed great pace and was unlucky to get sent off.

- 23 Arshavin – 5/10 : Poor, Didnt look up for the game at all.
- 29 Chamakh – 6.5/10 : Up front on his own and worked hard but his link play was pretty poor. Brave for our goal

- Walcott – 7/10 : Did well when he replaced Eboue, Looked up for it and was willing to have a go.
- Rosicky – 8/10 : For me he changed the game. Played very well when he came on and unlucky not to score.
- Van Persie – 6/10 : Not enough time to make an impact. Funny that Kuyt managed to play the full 90mins?
So what did today tell us?….Nothing we didnt already know. We need more cover at CB FAST! and we have a clown as a keeper. Wilshere is not ready and I hope when RVP is fit he plays up top with Chamakh and gives the lad some support.
Positives : … The Almunia mistake just might make Wenger go out and sign a keeper? But i very much doubt it.
Negatives :.. for 65mins we didnt test the Liverpool keeper and we had the extra man. Pretty much the same old Arsenal. Pass pass pass from side to side with nothing to show.

Need to sign a keeper.
It’s a joke that you voted Vermaelen and Arshavin over Koscielny and Wilshere. Verm was mainly at fault for their goal, failing to get in the way of Babel. Kos was solid throughout the game and played on despite an injury. Yes he got sent off in the end but I don’t think that should affect his rating too much at all.
Can’t agree with ratings mate. Diaby was back to his shocking lazy self and should be shipped out asap. 5 for Arshavin is generous- absolute rubbish for a player of his ability. As for Walcott- still over hyped- didn’t do much when he actually remembered to bring the ball with him. Felt sorry for Eboue being taken off- he showed more effort and enthusiasm than four or five put together. Nasri MOM for me. Agree- its not Almunias fault he’s not up to it- I blame Wenger.
We kept on passing too much we need to be direct and show urgency alumunia is shit kos played well unlucky he got sent off.

Feel sorry for Kos though red carded on his opening game and cole red card was harsh but his challenge was stupid and we have lost a lot of players injured through stupid tackles and I am happy ref did something about it
Chamak is exactly the kind of player we needed a person who’s not afraid to challenge the keeper in the air and speaking about keeper Al showed once again how stupid his positioning is he allowed the same kind of goal against Barca and here again

I would have preferred Walcott though over Eboue although he did ok
A Draw against pool was a good result hopefully by the end of next week we will have a new keeper, Djourou will be fit by then, and a new CB on the way

Its is funny though how many times did we dominate the games last year but didnt win, how many times did people say they controlled the game but still ended up losing it, I can think of at least 9-10 games and today we were the dominant force in the first (statistically at least) but pool were the better team overall and we still ended up drawing the match with a LONG BALL are we still Arsenal aren’t we. i think we the arsenal fans should begin a riot about this goalkeeping situation. I’m sorry to say but i’m really getting very irritated with the sturbborness from mr. wenger for not buying a goalkeeper by now and also the final defender we require. If he does not address this 2 areas this wk then we the arsenal fans should as well go on holiday.
I do not understand why everyone called the goal for them a goalkeeping mistake, ngog was almost in the 6 yard box and hit it with alot of power. I’m very happy to get a draw,first game of the season in anfield.We spent 80 mins in their half,they played like a relegation threatened team with two banks of four on the edge of their box.Koscielny very impressive. Missing song,van persie and cesc.Positive.

Rosicky should have started. We looked rusty but the upside is we hav fab song and rvp coming bak in the starting line up. I love clichy but he attacks alot better than he defends. And REINA got what he deserved after his part in the barca shirt over fabregas

And yes it was partly Wilshere’s fault, but it started off from a risky ball from Arshavin on the edge of the box. Jack was stretching and failed to get a good touch. It was massively Vermaelen’s fault for failing to block the shot really. He stopped for a second, causing him to loose his pace which allowed N’Gog an extra yard to get his shot away.
The same old mistake from Gunners..they simply not clear the ball..

Was always going to be a tough game-a draw is a good result considering who we had available. Wlishere did far better than you claim in the first half-he does make mistakes when he is facing his own goal-but give him some credit-hes only 18 and he’s only going to learn by playing. Remember he’ll be our main man long after Fabregas has gone to Barcelona.
A top keeper might have kept Ngog’s shot out-might have-not would have. What you say is right-same old.
I was disappointed with us going forward in the second half-not sharp enough-especially Nasri and Diaby not driving forward from midfield- Rosicky was more effective in 10 minutes than they were in 45. Arshavin looked short. Lets be honest-they did a job on him. Hodgson set them up well defensively.
Our goal was not entirely lucky-Chamakh does that a lot to keepers- pretty much the only CF out there who does.
HOW did wilshere lose the ball? From what I recall the ball was passed behind him, hes not Stretch Armstrong.
i think we gotta give them some slack… it’s only the first game of the season… they still need time to sort thing out… maybe with this result they can improve even more for the next game….
my thought on the goalkeeper, with the news saying Schwarzer has already in contact with the club… i think it would be a great change for the club…( i prefer given) we need changes in the goal-line… some who can teach our young keeper how to keep properly….LOL

Look you win and lose as a team, and there were 4 players who all played a hand in Liverpool’s goal. It is a tough first game, and Liverpool held their shape well. We deserved to draw. I believe all the players played hard and we will get better. Arsenal for life.

We were p00…alumina was at fault for the goal, jacky boy was a bit slow getting to the pass and vermalen was off the pace closing down ngog…or babel if you’re shaun.
Diaby was frustrating again, the ball sticks to nasri’s feet (good), and rosciky deffo changed the game…walcott did ok, would’ve liked to see him get 90mins though…

I think Arsenal should have a good keeper, and Wilshere must really work hard if he wants to be part of the team. I thought Kos was really good today, and answered his critics well. Just looks like another vermaelen, and was every bit as good as TV today, so should have the same rating imo.
Clichy didnt look so hot though. Kuyt completley had his number. Kuyt is actually one of my favourite non-arsenal players, and I think hes really underrated. His amazing stamina and work ethic seem to undermine his considerable skill-level, but nonetheless clichy should have dealt with him a little better than he did today. I wouldnt mind kuyt beating him once or twice but he seemed to get the better of gael every time their paths crossed, and it led to a number of dangerous situations for our defence.

Ngog’s goal was not Almunia’s fault. The shot was a scorcher and well placed. The responsibility for that goal falls squarely on the shoulders of Arshavin, who gave them the opportunity to score by carelessly passing the ball to them on a very poor “clearance”.
Our biggest problem today was in the final third, not very good link up play, and poor passes to forwards making a run into the box, how many times did Arshavin turn the ball over? Hopefully that will improve once Fab and Van P are back to playing the full 90.

Its pretty obvious that Arsenal are looking for a keeper and Mark Schwartzer must be aware of our interest. I just spoke to an American friend who said the Fox Sport pundits reckon we are already talking to Given’s people but Citeh don’t want to sell him to a rival top EPL club. If you run down the list of possible goalies then you will see that either they don’t to leave or their clubs won’t sell so Arsene is unlikely to magic one up unless we can prise a player away from their club. A Centre half is gonna come to and todays sending off will push that through I’m sure.
Same old story-for all our possession how many clear cut chances did we create-even against ten men.In fact,for most of the second half it looked like Liverpool had the spare man.Plenty of sideways passing but precious little where it mattered.Again,Almunia was undoubtedly to blame for not stopping Ngog’s shot and flapped endlessly against any half decent cross.Mind you it would have been nice if we were able to manage any half decent crosses ourselves.Sagna still can’t cross a ball and Walcott still tends to chose the wrong option.Diaby is just as useless as I remember and Wilshire is a long way short of what is required.Eboue might provide useful cover at right back but that’s where his usefulness both starts and ends;and Nasri has still not learnt how to use a “dead ball”!Arshavin has become a luxury who shouldn’t be entertained any longer.
On the positive side Konscielny had a decent debut but who will replace him now that he’s banned?
We desperately need a capable goalkeeper another centre back and more cover in defensive midfield.That said,i know that this isn’t going to happen.Once Fabregas returns,some of the cracks will be painted over but we certainly aren’t going to win anything with this lot!Who would then blame Cesc for leaving after another barren season!?

Almunia should have been replaced before the season started. He had no confidence or authority
by the end of last season so with talk of a replacement all summer he was hardly likely to have improved.
The gunners as usual play a game based on excessive passing compared to other teams.Yes I know a manager can choose to play whichever way. Th ultimate aim is to score the goals and win games.Koeman once said the gunners overplay and I agree 100% with him.
Whever thegunners shoot there will be player blocking the shot. You look at the Liverpool goal. It’s a replica of goals scored by teams when the gunners attack break down. Why can’t the gunners do the same with a swift counter blow?No it’s due to over eleboration and excessive passing.
Teams have found a way to neutralise the gunners attacking and I am sure by the 6 to 10th game the league table will indicate where the gunners stand. I am not too optimistic.
As for Wenger he can go if he wants with clubs clamouring for him. I am sure at other clubs he wont be given so much power and if results are unfavourable after ten matches he could be asked to go.

Koscielny was excellent in his debut. The stupid ref should have never sent him off late in the game, especially since he accidently handled the ball which he couldn’t avoid, while Ngog did it on purpose but didn’t getting a yellow card.
I laughed at Reina’s blunder. He was involved with on that prank Barcelona pulled on Cesc. So karma bit him on the ass.
Arsenal style of football has refused to improve, we entertain too much, let try and be a bit real with the ball. This is new campaign and we have to make a difference. Arsenal needs a new goalkeeper because alminia is not good enough for that job. The decision is wenger’s and he got to think wisely else we aint gonna be a title contender. Also, Koscielny was excellent in his debut so weel. He has pace and plays with confidence just like Tony Adams of old. He is a good player. Well done!
Also, chamakh needs to be a bit faster and relaxed with the ball, this is premier league not pre-season, so be forceful and tactical… I wish you luck this season.
Correct Aluminia should not be blamed for being selected, It been three months since we lost league in final few games and Wenger came out with his lies. No matter how good a manager is I cannot for life of me trust Wenger Long nosed lies. He has all the time in the world to replace Aluminia yet last week he came with another line ‘Whoever is no.1 against pool is going to be my number 1′ . But a point against Liverpool in Anfield is good enough. Also their is slight improvement but we need players in just in case injuries take their toll again.

You can see we have a developing consistent rating of players from most ppl. Everyone has Vermaelen and Nasri as the stars. I watched the game and from my view the formation looked like one where Diaby is meant to be the guy who sits and sets the tempo for us (which he did) and Nasri and Wilshere are the creative players. I wasn’t harsh on Nasri first cpl of seasons when he was doing what he did today, so I won’t be harsh on Jack. But Nasri is in his 3rd season with Arsenal as a regular player. He ran around today and played so safe it annoyed me. He always looks like he’s a about to do something and then just turns back and passes a 2 yard pass. This is a player that we are looking to step into Fabregas shoes and frankly today’s performance just doesn’t cut it. Did he have a shot on goal? Did he take on a player? I mean the difference between him and Rosicky once he was indroduced was massive. Rosicky came on and tried to win the game for us. This is something Nasri has to get in his head. I know France was shiite in the World Cup, but I’m sure this is the only reason he didn’t get picked for the squad. On the other hand Vermaellen, although had a decent game, wasn’t as good as Koscielny. This was the first time I saw Koscielny play and I was impressed. I heard he had a bad time during pre-season, but today he showed he will be a star. He showed great pace and positioned himself well all game. Very unlucky with the red as well, both teams. Arshavin had a horrid game, but what I love about him, he tries to win the game. You could see that Johnson was hammering him, but he still tried to take it to him. I know he’s selfish at times, but we really need the likes of Wilshere and Vela to get that mentality in their heads because they have more quality than the Russian. I wasn’t dissapointed in the end cos it’s still a draw at Anfield but we should’ve pushed harder for the win after half time.
u r deluded. am not almunias greatest fan but the goal was not of his own making. that rating is nothing but stupid. who else in the whole of the arsenal squad would have saved the free kick and johnsons strike? get serious. everything almunia does is never appreciated coz of the stigma attached to him. he is the best by a mile that we have. that goal was a blunder from wilshere and our defence makes almunia look worse than he actually is.
