[Ratings] Arsenal prove a point and take all 3

Full Time

Blackburn   1 - 2   Arsenal

               Diouf 27 Walcott 20, Arshavin 51

Its been said that we are soft! Its been said that we cant deal with balls into the box! Its been said that we cant fight and battle!….Well today Arsenal proved a point.

A massive 3pts for the gunners and I take my hat off to the players on the pitch today. The did what was needed and showed heart and fight and hung on at the end and won the game.

Arsenal Ratings

Almunia : 8/10, Full credit to Almunia today. Made a few good saves and when he needed to come for balls he did.

Sagna : 8/10, Back to his best. Great run for the 2nd goal and was well up for the fight.

Koscinely : 6/10, At fault for the blackburn goal and didnt show enough strength or pace to deal. Apart from that he did ok

Vermaelen : 7/10, Pretty solid and looked up for it.

Clichy : 7/10, Decent game from our flying left back.

Fabregas : 6.5/10, Didnt look fit, passing was all over the place. But he needs playing time.

Song : 7/10, Battled for the team and won the ball back. But his passing at times is very poor.

Diaby : 8.5/10, GREAT game from the big man. Won all the 50/50s and some great runs and passing.

Walcott : 9/10 [MOTM] For the 2nd week in a row, Man of the match. Great goal and great start to the season. A real handful who they couldn’t deal with.

van Persie : 6/10, Set up the first goal and then the glass ankles did what they always do. Went off injured after 30mins.

Arshavin : 7/10, Was pretty poor, but then popped up in the box and took his goal well. After that he looked up for it.

Subs
Rosicky -7/10  Replaced Cesc ( Wanted to see him start, Has looked very good this season)

Wilshere - 6/10 Replaced Arshavin ( Should have scored to kill the game off. Keep the ball well)

Chamakh - 7,5/10 Replaced RVP ( Worked the line and his link up play was world class)

Negative from the match

Van Persie injured yet again, in his first game back he lasted 30mins. How many times is this going to happen. Hope its not long time. Wenger said after the game it was only a few wks.

Positives from the game

The team showed they could mix it and fight. A real test for the boys today and we didn’t hide. We looked well up for the fight and it was great to see.

    Great result

But Koscinely was poor.Their goal was shocking defending.Has the guy got no body strength?

And its about time Gibbs came in to replace Clicky at LB.Clichy is a weak link

Best players today were Walcott and Diaby

  2. mat says:

ur a bit too kind with your ratings i dont think diaby played well at all

  3. dan says:

Think Chamakh deserves higher than 7.5. I thought he was brilliant when he came on.

Other than that I totally agree with your ratings. Perhaps a bit harsh on Kos, thought he battled well for his first game of this type in his career probably.

Oh and Wenger said RVP would be out for 8-10 days not a few weeks.

  4. Sam says:

Though i don’t always agree with your opinions, your player ratings are nearly always spot on. Sagna was motm for me today- worked his arse off and barely put a foot wrong

  5. Max says:

Thrilled with the result. They needed to prove they could grind out a win against a good team at a tough place to play and they did. I see no reason why we can’t do the same away to Stoke & Bolton.

  6. Danny_27 says:

Just goes to show different perspectives on games because I thought (and have thought this over the past year) Sagna got caught too far upfield for the goal. Look how many of our goals come from the opposition left wing and, IMO, it’s often due to Sagna neglecting defensive duties. Kos was beaten too easily but I believe he was left exposed by Sagna who only jogged back even as Diouf went past Kos.

Having said that, the goal apart, Sagna and the rest of the defence (including Almunia!) were brilliant today against the hideous Tactic Allardyce…so so boring to watch that lot…effective but boring!

  7. FEMI JACOBS says:

I just cant say why we so like Diaby. He is too fond of dribbling. He hant improved well compared to Rosisky.

Wenger needs to draw his attention at least when to quickly pass.

Chamak should pick up courage on the pitch. Good game in all. Most importantly we got the well deserved three points. CHEERS

  8. FearlessOne says:

It was a great game only a slight lack of sharpness in closing them down that led to their equalizer. It was nice to see Song and Diaby bullying them in the middle. I have never seen Arsenal battling hard as they did in the second half, they snatched the ball from them quickly… I want to see more from Arshavin, Diaby, Chamack, Walcot, Cesc, Nasri, Wilshere going forward and retaining the ball. The bacline needs to be sharp and adjust well with good communication with Almunia, as it seems no goalkeeper is coming this summer… Sagna did extremely well today…. More Goals Walcot, keep ‘em comin’!

  9. Mik says:

have to say that I also usually don’t agree with your opinions. But kudos to you that your player ratings are usually really fair and don’t show any prejudice.

  10. admin says:

    Cheers Mik

  11. salu says:

why the heck was samba allowed to carry the ball into our half diaby was jogging back there its annoying at times overall great victory n chamakh was very good particularly in handling samba in our own box

  12. Ibrahim says:

I hate to say it, but may be we should not count on the presence of Van Persie in Arsenal any more. He is one of my favor. BUT he will never be fit for a whole season. I think we should consider him an extra class in the team when available. I hope he will recover soon and forever.

  13. rff says:

clichy’s positioning and awareness is dreadful, first goal showed this again, how many times can this go on? kos not really a solid defender very hit and miss, a real hard proven defender is all we really need. a keeper wudnt hurt the cause but its not tht essential almunia isnt completely useless.

  14. wenger says:

dont you guys see kos playing pretty badly, was very nervous at the back after the goal, missed a couple of clearence and i dont have a lot of confidence in him

  15. Dobbi says:

So proud of the boys, they earned our respect today. Every one of them battled hard and got the result at the end. My favourite part, apart from the two goals, were some of the challanges Song and Vermealen put in there. Showed we can mix it up with the bullies of the EPL, no problem! Up the Arsenal!

  16. Jazbo says:

Don’t be to hard at Kos, it was his first time in a game like this, it must have been a hell of a shock, he improved during the second half and showed that he’s a good defender.
For the goal, I think Diaby was a fault for not knocking over Samba when he had the ball, instead he just jogged back like he was on a Sunday morning outing, Clichy caught out again very poor postioning for the goal.

We played a better game when RVP and Fabregas went off, maybe this means that the players have now grown up, not kids anymore.

Good result, come on you Gunners!!

  17. Chris R says:

Very harsh on Kos at this early stage. Yes, he was at fault for the goal, but you could just as easily point the finger at Sagna or Song, neither of whom dropped back to cover their teammate. I thought Kos did well considering this was probably the most physical fixture he has ever played in, and even though he is still very much a work in progress, I think he has a lot of potential.

  18. piken79 says:

Alumina – 7 -did everything that was ask of him. I still want another keeper.

Sagna – 7 Pretty good today, solid, no nonsense clearing and had a big part to play in the 2nd goal.

koscielney – 6 Responsible for 2nd goal but SONG should have been covering him. His passing was off once Blackburn scored he is very solid in the air and reads the game well.

TV5 – 7.5 thought he did more than what was asked of him. won more than 80% of his duels.

Clichy – 7.5 had a solid game, no errors and got forward pretty well.

Theo 9 MOTM – excellent goal, excellent runs and had balls of steel to take that 20yd shot. I am sure Givet will see Theo in his dreams tonight.

SONG – 7.5 did pretty well, he protected the back four on most occasions but left koscielney stranded for the equalizer. His passing is pretty solid, good to see him back in his natural position. WTF is going on with the HAIR SONG??!! I am sure his psycho uncle had something to do with it.

CESC – 7.5 a little off the pace but that is understandable, he picked up the pace in the 2nd half but Wenger wanted to protect his star player. gave away lots of balls but had some incisive passes also, should be back to his best in 3-4weeks

Diaby – 8 I thought diaby had a pretty good game today, he was physical and tardy in the 1st half, didn’t try to do anything fancy. He is a v. talented player but needs to know when not to dribble.

Arshavin 7.5 – what can I say? Stuart Little is still out of form but its good to see him a little more interested in what’s happening around him. Took his goal v. well.

  19. piken79 says:

RVP – 8 Excellent passes and if fit we can win the league. His pass to Theo was class but the glass man might be out for a couple of games. I may have to see my voodoo Dr. to help protect RVP.

SUB – Chamahk – 7 didn’t really do anything wrong but I don’t remember any great moments either. He defended well on set pieces and kept Chris Samba quite.

SUB – Wilshere – 6.5 Didn’t have much time to impact the match but missed a sitter. Come on kid, you got to put those away.

SUB Rosicky 7.5 – He actually did pretty well, but was not as excellent as the last two matches. His transition game is pretty good; I think he’s the only person at Arsenal who can play the CESC role

  20. chandraraj says:

Clichy was equally to be blamed if not more for Blackburn’s goal. Lost his man completely. So i don’t understand how he got 7 while the goal scorer, Arshavin is only given 6.

  21. chandraraj says:

Clichy was equally to be blamed if not more for Blackburn’s goal. Lost his man completely. So i don’t understand how he got 7 while the goal scorer, Arshavin is considered poor!.

  22. M. Chow from HK says:

    1. Sagna played very well this game. The goal conceded was part of the offensive style of game we played and Sagna cannot be blamed. Rather, Koscinely was supposed to do his job but he lacks the pace and physical strength to stop Samba, and Clichy could not manage to mark M. Diouf for the goal (look at Clichy’s position and Diouf’s movement, and you will know why). This is only the second game Kos played for Arsenal. Hope he will adapt to the physical challenge in the EPL as soon as possible.

    2. Diaby lost too many passings in the midfield today and gave the opponent a few chances to counter attack.

    3. Almunia deserved our credit.

  23. ruelando says:

Kos was at fault for the goal, one on one should be a defender, he went with is shoulders instead of tackling, Diouf being experience saw it coming and rode it nicely. Clichy really did not stand a chance base on his position.
Overall I thought Kos was excellent in the latter off and did is job better than the first.
Chamahk is indeed an asset and handle samba better than Diaby or Ver
Diaby and Song made a few mistakes but look wonderful in the middle
Cesc was good and i though Rosicky needed more tme
Jack missed the death blow, but overalll a lot of fight and thats what we need to see against cheasea and stoke and we will win this league

  24. jimmy says:

piken79. cliche 7.5? no errors? watch our goal again, was caught ball watching while diouf ran right past him to score. defence wise he wasnt good but attack he is still decent (maybe time for gibbs to take no1 spot for a few games tho). fab didnt do much, was off his game today and thats understandable, rvp got a nice assist but apart from that wasnt too special. song gave away way too many balls today, really frustrating but he makes up for it with his defence, was great at that today. the players i mentioned should get lower ratings IMO but other than them i agree.

ps: up yours spuds, congrats to wigan!!!!!

  25. Davi says:

Good ratings. I thought kos was actually really good apart from a couple of mistakes. I dont really think it was a lack of body strength that led to the goal (it was only diouff, not drogba) he just didnt seem to go for it. It needed a slide tackle, and thats all that vermaelen would have done differently. I think kos was just afraid hed get sent off. I see it as him gaining experience of this league.
Got to say, I’ve been slating theo this week, but he was brilliant today. His decision-making was perfect, and his finishing superb. He only had one real chance in open play and he buried it with ease, and he had two more that were *just* offside which he finished as well. This is the first time Ive seen him play really well two games in a row AND the first time ive seen him play well against a real battling mid-table side like blackburn. I didnt think he could continue his form from last week, but he proved me wrong in a much tougher game. He now has to continue to do it, but the way he looked today (totally focussed) I wouldnt bet against him. Everyone knows he has a lot of talent to go with the pace, but this could be the year he starts to show it on a regular basis. Let’s hope.
For me, diaby was the most important player for us defensively, and made countless interceptions, headers and tackles as well as keeping the ball moving well, but theo made the difference up front. Either one could be MOM imo.

  26. Gordon says:

    What did we learn today

1.Clichy is a weak link.Just watch him ball watch instead of picking up Diouf.Makes two many errors

2.Kos needs to bulk up.If he thinks Blackburn is tough wait till he faces Drogba

3.Theo is in the best form of his Arsenal career. Now for consistanty

4.To all those raving about Rosicky last week he is not a first choice started when he have a tough away game

5.Almunia did ok.But we need a new keeper

  27. Davi says:

pilken – Chamakh could easily have given away a pen for his “marking” of samba. Someone needs to tell him to cut that out cos it’s not worth the risk.
Overall Id still give him a 7 actually cos he did a good job up front again. I really think wenger has made a good signing in him. Now van persie can BE a luxury because we have someone who is more robust and reliable to come in and do the job up front.

  28. Mabs says:

Charmakh played great today and i didn’t get why he didn’t start either for rvp or a.a…. Great in the air holds the ball, plays simple and complemented walcott and a.a. Koieschy is really a weak link in this team, thats what happens when you buy a player who played in league 2 of the french division his whole carrer. No more signing which is stupid consdering we need one more defender. Im sure if we offered 10 million for Samba he would come, i mean that guy is a beast and i mean he bullies us every season since he came to blackburn when mark huges was there.

  29. realist says:

yeah i agree with mabs i thought chamakh was outstanding. he was one minute defending and the next showing a great display of passing. he has a great attitude and he tries very hard. he is a brilliant addition to the team and brings alot more to arsenal than vela does. i thought song had a good match he wasnt scared to stick a boot in and he got in and amongst the blackburn players and roughed them up. koscielny was ok he should have slid in on diouf but he will know next time. great move for the walcot goal and a great finish. arsenal need to keep giving him the ball when he has the space to go. i think last yr they got too tight in midfeild and were not using the pace of walcott and arshavin on the flanks. there is no one in football that will catch walcott when a ball come over the top. all and all i thought this was a great team performance.

  30. Sammy says:

You were too harsh on Kos. He struggled, but still did okay.

And you rate Diaby too highly. He misplaced too many balls in crucial locations, and always took an extra touch on the ball (although he is getting better at releasing ball on time compared to earlier)

  31. bjohnson says:

I WILL SPEAK MY MIND – THEO DOES NOT DESERVE 9. ONCE AGAIN WE OVER HYPE THIS GUY. HE WAS NOT MAN OF THE MATCH.
RVP PASS TO WALCOTT WAS TOP DRAW. THIS IS WHAT WE MISSED LAST SEASON.

  32. Davi says:

@bjohnson – that was my attitude after the blackpool game, but theo was as efficient with the ball as he realistically could be today. He always made the correct decision and finished his only real chance and showed his cool head two more times only to be ruled correctly offside, but only by a very small margin in both cases. Im not going to say he has made it, proven himself or whatever, but this was the first time Ive seen him play well from start to finish against a real tough opponent and the first time hes played really well two games in a row. He hasnt proven he is a consistent, quality player, but he is on the right track now. I hate that wenger has shown so much favouritism towards him, but you cant hold it against him, and when he plays well and there is a chance he might have changed, you can only support him.
That whole move was clinical. The pass from van persie was obvious, but perfectly executed, the run perfectly timed and the finish was just class. Great play from both of them.

  33. fofo says:

i think sagna also deserves a 9. he was totally excellent. i hope he continues like that. i want to urge fans to give kosceilny a break. this is a new league, his first big game. let him blossom. remember we all criticised walcott and song especially. now if we dont see song in the line up we are sad. pls give the new defender a chance.

  34. Curt says:

    Wow, poor Diaby just can’t catch a break from his critics. Several time here in the comments is he said to have misplaced too many passes and lost too many balls;

They guy passed at 90% success rate for Christ sake! He also won 85% of his attempted tackles.

Diaby had a great game, give credit where it’s due.

  35. cesc says:

Thought Kos chose the wrong option. He should have cut him off not try and beat him.
Almunia was a joke. He did nothing to that will give our defenders any confidence in their stopper. The man is worse than flappianski.
To say we played a team that was more preoccupied with playing the man than the ball we did very well.
still think we need a goalie who can dominate his area when we are defending long balls all the time.
