Swapping Cole for Gallas. Who got the better deal?

This weekend I watched Clichy have a stinker, Gallas play for the spurs and Ashley Cole have one of the games of his life.. And it got me thinking!!!!

So who got the better deal when we swap Ashley for Gallas?

With Clichy getting worst each year and will Gallas leaving us for the spuds on a free, it kills me to watch Ashley Cole looking like the worlds best left back.

Lets get this right, BOTH Ashley Cole & William Gallas are nasty so and so…

But Arsenal should have done more to keep an English home-grown player happy at the club then sign a player (Gallas) with a history of having a bad attitude.

Looking back at the deal now its clear that Arsenal were shafted with this deal, And this has to be the worst bit of business under Arsene Wenger?

Maybe its time to give Gibbs a chance at LB ahead of Clichy?

Oh good grief. Clichy had a bad game? What planet are you on?

We did. As we got rid of someone that did not want to play for us anymore. If he had stayed it would have caused so much disruption in the changing room. Also the fans would not have been to happy either.

Can’t you think of anything current to bash Arsenal about. You usually manage just fine.

Yes, Clichy is not pulling his weight and he was responsible for the equaliser at Sunderland. He did not clear his lines properly when he had to do so and led to Brent’s equaliser. He had a terrible game that led to the defeat of France at home in the European qualifiers.

Clichy should be on the bench and Gibbs be allowed to play.

Hurray, the new fall guy has been chosen. This year’s honours go to: Clichy.

In my opinion there’s 2 problems with the Clichy situation. First of all, he definitely suffered a loss of form last season, which is continuing a bit into the new season. The bigger problem however, is who is playing ahead of him. Most of the time, it’s Arshavin, who does not do the same defensive work as the like of Nasri or even walcott on the right side in front of Sagna. Basically i think Arshavin is making clichy look worse by bot offering enough cover for him, and teams have figured this out. I think it would do no harm to drop Arshavin for a game or 2, give Vela a chance and see what he has to offer. Also Arshavin’s passing has been noticably poor and i think he needs to have some pressure put on his place in the starting 11.

Gallas vs Cole : They got the best deal. When we sold him, he was young, a league winner, an experienced european campaigner, an international and in my opinion a perfect player. I rarely ever remember him getting beaten in an Arsenal or England shirt. He was always solid and was my favourite player when he played for us. He actually dipped a little in form when he went to Chelsea, but I still think he’s in the top 2 left backs in the world. At the time of the deal, I would say Gallas was worth £10million and Cole was worth £25million, so really we got £15million for £25million worth of player.

Clichy and Sagna both suffered a lot when we moved to a 4-3-3. There is far more space for the fullback to make up now. Sagna this season though seems to have sussed it and is doing ok, but Clichy has been left behind. Add to that the useless Arshavin in front of him, and Clichy has to basically be everywhere on the left side of the pitch all the time and he’s not up to it. The only time he gets anything is when Chamakh drifts over to the left because he’ll chase anything. Hopefully when Bendtner or Persie comes back we can put Chamakh on the wing to help him out.

Yes, although it wasn’t quite so clear at the time, Chelsea did brilliant business getting Cole for Gallas plus £5m – but maybe it was a way out of an untenable position for both clubs and both players

All the same, Cole’s not coming back so it’s nott very logical to use this as a reason to say Gibbs should get a chance at LB – which the Bolton game shows he will, anyway.

If he takes his chance he may be able to push onto first choice but personally I don’t think that’s very likely for 18 months or so
