[Ratings] Thats the Arsenal we want!!!

Arsenal   3 - 1   Chelsea

  • A Song 44
  • Fabregas 51
  • Walcott 53
  • Ivanovic 57

Great performance last night, much more like what we should be seeing every week.

Desire, commitment and quality, but why is it we can beat the Chavs but lose to the likes of WBA, Wigan etc?

Last night we pressed them high. Good defending generally, Djourou was outstanding, Koscielny played well apart from the goal.

RvP looks a bit sharper and Walcott’s pace on the wing push Cole back.

And last night tactically Wenger got it 100% right (makes a nice change)

Lets not get carried away, some tough games coming up thick and fast and we need to show the same fight and give the likes of Wigan, Birmingham & West Ham the same respect.

But lets enjoy this win, its been a long time coming.

Arsenal Ratings

Fabianski : 7/10 (Didnt really have much to do until the last 20mins. Came for crosses and punched well)
Sagna : 7.5/10 (One of his better games, showed great work rate and won all his 50/50 battles)
Koscielny : 8/10 ( Apart from the goal, GREAT game. Powerful and showed great pace.Lets hope we see that again)
Djourou : 9/10 (What a great game he had. Played Drogba well. Big strong, powerful, quick, and good with the ball)
Clichy :7/5 (Played well, very good link up with Nasri and his pace going forward was fantastic on the break)
Fabregas : 8/10 ( 2 assists and a goal. Not a bad night on his return)
Nasri : 7/10 ( Great pace and workrate but didnt have that cutting edge to his game last night. Missed a big chance)
Walcott : 8/5 ( Very good game by Theo, pushed Ashley back all night. Took his goal well and a nice assist for the 2nd. Needs to start more games ahead of Rosicky and Arshavin now)
Song : 9.5/10 ( A beast in the middle of the park. Won everything and gave it simple. Popped up with a vitial goal just before H/T and his run in the 90mins was just work class.
Wilshere : 7/10 ( linked the play well and keep the ball. Won his share of tackles, glad to see him start ahead of Denilson)
Van Persie : 7.5/10 ( Didnt score but its great to have him back and playing uptop. We look so much better and have a touch of class with RVP in the side, lets hope he can stay fit for the rest of the season)

Subs
Diaby : 6/10 ( Came on for Theo? I couldn’t understand that move? Should have scored but didnt fancy his left foot. But its good to see him back)
Chamakh : 6/10 (Held the ball well, but never looked like scoring with him on the pitch)
Rosicky : 6/10 ( Came on to keep the ball and he did that)

Man Of The Match : Alex Song

song more than djourou? just cause song scored? both were immense but djourou played his heart out and deserves the MOTM….

RVP was quite good 2, he held the ball up for essien 2 screw it up for the 2nd goal…
walcott was amazing and so was cesc…

and clichy started the 2nd half badly when he tried 2 deke his way out and gave the ball away…

Great write up, I was at the game last night and was really happy to see Theo start he kept Cashley busy and really stretched the play, shame about his first touch in places but took his goal really well – would be great to see wenger continue this shape.

Like you, I was concerned to see Wenger taking off theo for Diaby and RVP for Chamakh but in his defence, they came on and the game went into lock down, we had more height for defending chelsea’s set pieces and ‘route one’ approach and Diaby and Chamakh did nothing but chase the chelsea back line down which kept us in control.

A top team effort with everyone playing for the team.

We can’t ask for anything more from them!

    C’mon Arsenal!!!!

theres my arsenal that i know AND fell in love with on that day january 2002 when i watched from the clock end for the first time. koscienly finally played like a proper arsenal cb,clichy looked like he should be playing for tottenham i.e he was shite, djouroe was kind enogh to take drogba out of his pocket at the end. cole couldnt handle theo was brilliant, cesc was back on form and jack wasnt at his best but still played a nice little pass to cesc in the build up to the first goal. probably should have taken jack off for diaby but bringing on diaby was still a good move he just shouldnt have replaced theo. marks out of 10= 9/10

  6. piken79 says:

MOTM – Johan DJOUROU..he was really good last night. All Arsenal fans ask for is commitment and guts, we will not win every game but we want to know the players show guts even when we don’t win. That was a performance of skills, guts and two dangling balls…

  7. Geordie Gooner says:

Song was man of the match without doubt. Djourou had a very good game but Song had a far harder and busier game in the midfield. Chelsea only thumped long balls up to Drogba which Djourou dealt well with, but it wasnt as if he had a lot of defending to do.

  8. Bendtnersdad says:

As you briefly mentioned we pressed them high up the pitch for the entire game. More should be made of that because it’s the one ingredient that’s been missing from this team. Theo and Sami provided our fullbacks with the required protection when we weren’t in possession. You don’t get that from Arshavin. The whole team worked hard when we didn’t have possession. That as much as anything else made the Chavs look impotent. They couldn’t get a rhythm going of whipping the ball in for Drogba to attack which mean’t they had to try to outpass us. They had no chance of doing that.

  9. Anne J Goddard says:

That was Arsenal at its best! Well done boys! I have always said this, it’s incredible what Wenger is achieving on limited funds. It’s even sweeter against Roman Abramovich’s millions.

  10. Goonzilla says:

Haters – where are the comments now of type “Woeful Arsenal, Wenger is clueless!”

  11. Anon says:

If we had lost the game it would be the end of the world. If we had won the game (which we did) then suddenly we’re championship material.
Seriously though delighted I am at the victory it would be foolish to assume we’re the finished article just yet. Truth be told the Chavs were clearly not at their best, but if we’re serous about the title we can’t just hope for our challengers to choke. We have to improve our own game in order to call ourselves deserved champions come May.
This win however should at least fix some of the morale & confidence issues within the team. Let’s hope we can also fix the tactical shortfalls & stay injury free till the end. Add a bit more consistency & our glory days shall return very soon.
    Go gooners.

  12. Gunaz rule says:

good article….arsenal played a good number of exceptional soccer that nite…the team had organisation and that was the key to kill off chelshit……..
as for the rating ratio….Fabianski was good so he had 6/10
wilshire had 8/10 (1 assists and Not a bad night at all for the youngster
Fabregas : 8/10 (1 assists and a goal. Not a bad night on his return.. the

  13. g4eva says:

last night we saw the decline of a midfield great in michael essien, but we also saw the emergence of his succesor in alex song. People debate about his best position and want him to just sit but that is not what he is, he is like essien and makes those powerful surging runs and is a box-box player, the only real sitter we have is denilson, the others are all more attack minded, we should not change jack into a sitter either, he is far better in an attacking role.

  14. seasonticket says:

Regardless of how bad Chelsea were last night, we played with controlled aggression and hunted down every 2nd ball….this is why Barca are so good; they do it EVERY match!
AW should sit the squad down and show them the difference in our play for last night and some of the other games we have played, and lost, against ‘lesser’ teams. They showed us just what they can do, let’s hope that they can do this every game from now on.

  15. Weedz says:

Great game guys. But don`t agree with some of your ratings.
Johan backed off Drogba near the beginning of the game to give the big striker a sight on goal, that one mistake, and it was the worst one he made, doesn`t allow him the luxury of a 9.
Gael had a poor start to the game as well, but his rating is about right.
The MFs ratings are about right, but Alex with a 9.5 seems too high for me He was a beast and easily the best DMF on the field, but he still missed a couple of tackles and mispassed 2 or 3 times.
I disagree with your assesment of RvP. I live o/s so I don`t watch live at the Grove and appreciate I only get the TV perspective, but I saw Robin playing no better than when I watched him playing at the WC. For me he`s out of form and has been for about 8 months. I thought he was our poorest player.
Theo on the other hand, I believe, was our MOTM. Not because of his play, not because of his assist and not because of his goal, but simply because of his pace. A 21yr old keeping the best LB in the world and one of Chelski`s most potent attacking weapons, in his pocket, was,IMO the winning of the game. Theo has got to play. Simple as. Thanx.

  16. Gooner from Sydney says:
