[Ratings] Arsenal (B) flop again vs the lower league teams

Its scary.. This is the same bunch of player who LOST to Braga and Ipswich.. And also failed to beat Leeds Utd at home.

So its clear to say that our B team is really quite poor as today proved.

The worst result we could of got today was a draw, we really dont need more games at the mo. We already have enough on our plate. Thats why I was so disapotined that we didnt finish the game off today.

At 1-0 it was always going to be a tight game, and with 2mins to go Almunia is asked to deal with the only shot on target and it went under him.

But aside from that we were very poor. Cant remember the Orient keeper making 2 many saves during the game.

This bunch of players on show today have failed so many times this season. Wenger is giving them a chance to shine and its almost like they cant be arsed.

Well played Leyton Orient, You got your dream tie vs The Arsenal and you gave everything. Our boys just couldn’t give a sh#t. I just hope that the Carling Cup final next weekend will have the likes of RVP, Nasri,Walcott, Wilshere and Cesc and none of the below as they don’t deserve to play in a final

Ratings

Almunia : 4.0 [Nothing to do all game until the 88th min and the only shot on target he couldn't deal with, its no wonder we couldn't even give him away for nothing. Im just amazed this clown was the Arsenal number 1 for 3 seasons]

Sagna : 6.5 [Decent game but was very wasteful with his crossing.. I'm sure Ive said that before]

Miquel : 8.0 [Looks a very talented player. Very good on the ball, good pace and showed some vision with a fine 50 yard pass to Nic]

Squillaci : 7.0 [Great block with his face, but looks slow and sluggish vs very basic player]

Gibbs : 5.0 [Weak for the goal, Didn't give us anything down the left apart from a good cross to Chamahk who missed]

Song : 6.0 [Played more forward in the Cesc role and allowed Denilson to sit, But poor passing and didnt have the pace to support the forward]

Denilson : 5.0 [Yet again he let us down vs the lower league teams, Poor passing poor tackling, slow, I cant see what he brings to the team]

Bendtner : 7.5 [ Set up the goal with a decent cross, the thing I like about Nic is that he is always willing to have a shoot at Goal and has the power to test the keeper. Didnt have the best of games but worked hard]

Rosicky : 7.0 [Scored his first goal since Jesus was born, Nice header but not a Nasri or a Cesc]

Arshavin : 8.5 [Worked very hard for the team and at the heart of everything good - MOTM]

Chamakh : 3.0 [Missed a sitter from 5 yards and not the first time this season, Very poor show again. Lacks pace, dosent have the power in his shooting to test the keeper.  Seriously we had better hope that RVP stays fit because we look a totally different team with Chamakh leading the line ]

completely, 100% agree with your ratings

  2. eduardo says:

agree mostly with ratings, but disagree totally that a draw was the worst result we could have got, a defeat would be worse, an extra game v orient means little as it will be these players who play in the replay so don’t really effect the first 11

  3. TC says:

Agree with Chamakh score of 3 but for me that was the score for Bendtner, Song, Denilson as well.

I fine it amazing how far Chamakh has fallen from earlier in the season.

I thought Gibbs was OK and better than his recent performances.

This B team is getting us into trouble and maybe we need to start the next set of kids.

It certainly now looks like unless we have at least one of a fully fit Nasri, Wilshire, Fab we are in serious creative trouble.

  4. baz says:

I really dont think Rosicky or Denilson help out at all!! I cant wait to see Rambo and Frimpong replace those 2 and as for Squillaci, well Bartley should be brought back to replace him and Bendy has still got an awful awful 1st touch its shocking!!

  5. baz says:

Oh and Almunia needs to go back to waiting tables

  6. KA says:

It was very disappointing but there were 10 changes from Wednesday night to the starting 11. The only consolation as I see it is that assuming AW plays the same bunch in the home return it doesn’t really constitute an additional first team game in the fixtures list, and quite frankly the more game time the ‘B’s get the better because they need the practise.

Like I say though, that is a silver lining take on it. The result tonight was poor.

  7. gooner91 says:

bendtners problem is that when he plays in games like this he assumes hes going to score a hatrick without having to try. denilson is woeful at best, with him in the team we lack any sort of creative spark, it showed as everytime he tried to dictate play he took so long Orient got nearly every man back behind the ball. hopefully rosickys goal well inject a bit of confidence back in to him, going so long without a goal has got to be painful considering hes scored some good ones for us (that screamer in the CL and that one against Liverpool). i think this B team is far too complacent they assume were going to storm to a double figure victory against teams like this, they did it against ipswich, leeds and very nearly against huddersfield had it not been for a captain that looks hungry for trophies. and as for almunia, we would have had better luck stopping that shot with a traffic cone

  8. Rataxas says:

Good ratings. Wenger cocked this up from the beginning. Why was Almunia named Captain? Perhaps the least inspirational player on the pitch and unable to inluence things from the 19-yard box. We had the captain of Russia and the captian of Czech Republic on the field. Aluminium is about the only one there who hasn’t been called up in some capacity by his country. Huh? Even the Reserves captain, Ignasi Miquel, would have been a better choice. The kid looked good. I’d rather watch him learn his trade than Squillaci.

Far too much of Song, Denilson, and Bendtner trundling about with the ball and spraying misplaced passes all over the place. Add Squillaci, and you get the most ponderously slow collection of players to don the shirt – they make Senderos look quick.

I hope Aaron’s coming back this week.

  9. arsenafanatic says:

Almunia shud be fed 2 d sharks along wit schilacci lol

  10. the gun says:

I feel we have too many players out on loan. Wenger should recall most of them back if we want to compete in four cups. We need all the players to cope with fatigue.

I said it before and i will say it again chamakh is not good enough for the EPL. this summer we need to buy another back up for van Persie. I feel another formation such as a 4-4-2 with bendtner and arshavin upfront would have been better

  11. manjohnel says:

Maybe this is AW and Arsenal’s new strategy of making more money this season from gate takings. We now have to play 2nd leg at the Emirates(just like Ipswich and Leeds) and get some extra ticket/matchday revenue. Makes business sense.

  12. Kevin says:

Squillaci wasn’t as bad as before he actually played quite well but Almunia made another costly mistake. Denilson was shocking and Lansbury would bring far more to the table then him.

  13. Taiwo kolawole says:

we play a very good game but reverse is the case in our score line. miguel must be given more playing tine

  14. Taiwo kolawole says:

miguel must be given more playing time

  15. 1993Gooner says:

Wenger really does know how to pick an unbalanced team doesn’t he….

    He needs to know:

Denilson and Song + Chamakh and Bendtner CANNOT PLAY TOGETHER…
It puts too much creative pressure on Arshavin and Rosicky and makes their job difficult due to the Song/Denilson and Chamakh/Bendtner pairing being static and not making any runs for the two creative players to find them.

Miquel looked very comfortable on the ball and from watching a few reserves games looks like he could ply his trade in the holding mid role as back up to Song instead of Denilson (if need be). He also seemed very composed in defence considering who his partner was.

Almunia is a joke of a player now, all hope is lost with him, I don’t understand why Szczesny wasn’t played, he needs all the games/experience he can get.

Gibbs doesn’t offer much in the defensive or offensive apartment, he needs to brush up HEAVILY on his positioning and crossing to compliment his pace and stamina which would allow him to become a very useful wingback.

Bendtner needs to be the focal point of an attacking trio his first touch lets him down when he’s played wide and seems to be more dangerous centrally. Chamakh should play some games in the reserves team to brush up and catch some goal scoring form.

With the return of Ramsey, Vermaelen I hope that limits the chances Squillaci and Denilson get to play and hopefully Frimpong makes a miraculous recovery to add that missing “bruteness” to our midfield.

  16. Howlmunia says:

What a DONKEY Almunia is! One shot to save, straight at him, and it goes under him. I really wish he would fuck off out of this club!

  17. asitwas says:

Almunia : NA (Did not play enough to warrant a rating.)
Sagna : 6.5 (Defended very well, as usual. Offered zilch in attack, as usual.)
Gibbs : 6 (Partly to blame for the goal, but a much better crosser than Clichy. Will improve with time.)
Miquel : 7 (Considering its his first game, the lad put in a great shift, a promising prospect. Too bad about the goal.)
Squilaci : 6 (Slow on the deck, but made an excellent interception with his face.)
Song : 3.5 (Very poor. Misplaced passes all game. The Songinho virus has hit him again. He’s handy if we play sides like Stoke, but the game against Barca showed why he must not roam forward.)
Denilson : 5 (As good as it gets for the Brazilian. He did not make any costly errors. Hence the rating.)
Rosicky : 6.5 (Despite the goal, his twists & turns were rarely constructive. The way he slowed the tempo when we could have exploited the gaps was rather Diaby-esque. But at least he tried.
Arshavin : 8 (The only intelligent player on the field today who showed urgency to try & kill the game. His passes looked bad cos the other players were too “slow”.)
Bendtner : 6.5 (Horrible first touch, tried to do too much with his limited ball skills. But great assist for the goal.)
Chamakh : 3 (Hardworking chap, but he seemed lost when we have the ball. His positioning was more often hindrance rather than help.)

  18. Graham says:

Another knee-jerk reaction because the result didn’t go our way. We totally bossed the game from start to finish and had we been more clinical could have won in a canter. Ratings are way too harsh and wouldn’t have been had you awarded them after 88 minutes of the game.

  19. gunner90 says:

When will Wenger realise that his second string of players are simply not good enough. Out of today’s team only Song ( because he is the only fit DM that we have at the moment), Bendtner ( we have no one else who can replace RVP when injured), Sagna and Arshavin are worth keeping. Chamakh started brightly at the start of the season but his lack of pace/ball control are not good enough for the PL. Miguel looks like he could be a bright prospect for the future. Wenger must ship all the rest out during the summer and buy some replacements as there are no more Wilsheres coming through from the reserves. Will it happen – probably not because Wenger is too stubborn and does not want to spend any money!

  20. Northbanksy says:

I don’t understand why we needed 2 defensive mid-fielders against Leyton Orient, especially after it became apparent that our second 11 were being as uncreative as usual & Orient were not posing real threat physically or on goal.
A replay is no big deal but it’s getting tedious watching our B team struggle to see off teams from lower divisions when it’s so obvious that they need Cesc, Jack or Samir to inject a little creativity into the mid-field. Yawn!!!!

  21. Goonergerry says:

As weve seen twice before this season- we could have expected a better performance than this against lower league opponents.Thats what happens when you play half a team of unfit players in a game they didnt want to play in.
Chamakh is not fit physically and mentally and for much the same reason as Arshavin earlier- over- used earlier in the season because of injuries to others. Gibbs looks good when koscielny and Djourou are playing- and yes Bendtner’s first touch is poor so we have to adjust more in our approach play- dont play the same ball we would to RVP. Denilson isnt progressing – but is he fully fit? As for Almunia- hes not exactly motivated to succeed is he- more a dead man walking?
You might be right that Miguel was good but he might have been one of the few of our lot who might actually have wanted to be there.

  22. JSP says:

So do you pull numbers out of a hat like they do with an FA Cup draw??? 4 for Almunia!! OK it was a soft goal but the way a no hoper from league 1 skipped past our defence probably took Almunia as much bu surprise as it did the rest of us. 6 at least.
As for Arshavin we must have been watching different games. As always he was totally useless. A league 1 team and he still looks out of his depth. The sooner he goes the better. We are taking to the field with 10 men every time he is in the team!!!

  23. Femi Jacobs says:

I dont agree as a person with most of the ratings: How can you give Squillaci 7? An expensive defender, said to have experience. He should get 5. He performed woefully. YOu can see that the small boy was practically controlling the back instead of him. If Miquel could be 8 on debut, then squillaci should be 5.

Charmak should not be used as top striker, he should be used as supporting striker. The more wenger uses him as striker the more dissapointing he looks. Denilson wasnt himself. Almunia should get 2.

You forgot to rate Wenger. When the game remains tem minutes, he was supposed to make change. From outside i could see that Arshavin, Denilson, Charmak were tired. Wenger should have make change to keep the winning. The pitch was very bad and contributed to their woeful performance, so Wenger should have brought in some of our players.

They boys that were not use to that shabby pitch was left by wenger to continue suffering there. He should have injected some players to cushion their effort.

  24. arsenal man says:

Song did not play that bad, even the commentators were saying that he was very influential

  25. steve says:

    man, i think you are biased with your ratings. how about this;
ALMUNIA- 4 proves once again that he chose the wrong career, simply not good enough
SAGNA-5.5 was poor with his crosses but defensively he was not that bad
GIBBS-5 delivered one decent cross and poor challenge for the goal
SQUILLACI-4.5 nervy, lack confidence, i just cannot bvelieve that arsene trusted this clown
MIQUEL-6 good on the ball, he looks like he will be great. i would like to see him getting more games
SONG-5 poor by his standards, he had a horrible week
DENILSON-6 not as bad as you make it but he cant run,win the ball back, cant pass
ROSICKY-5 i keep woundering why most arsenal fans believe this guy can do the cesc/nasri?
    ARSHAVIN-6 lazy
    CHAMACK-1 he is a joke
BENDTNER-6.5 tried but it wasnt to be

  26. Steven says:

Disappointing draw but a couple of positives and some of my observation: Miguel played well, very well for an 18-yr old on his debut with the first team. Arshavin continues his impressive run and would have scored but for ill-luck minutes before the equalizer. Song should have gone off as he was so error-proned it should tell Wenger by now that Song’s passing drops when he is ‘tired’ mentally. One of Cesc, Nasri or Wilshere would have changed the game and Wenger must accept the blame for the team switching off at 1-0;when did we start keeping a one-goal lead? Why didnt Wenger get on the touch line and tell them to raise their game rather than kill the game with triangular passes? The second leg at the Emirates will be an opportunity for the Team B to redeem itself, I hope. What’s up with Chamakh backing the goal in the 18-yard box with a defender to beat and then passing backward? Does he still remember he is a striker? And I believe Chamakh and Bendtner should have swapped positions on the right wings or with Arshavin so that the big Dane can cut in on his right foot? Rosicky’s place in the team is endangered when Ramsey and Diaby become fully fit and even more so when the likes of Landsbury and Frimpong return next season. Hopefully, with the second leg at the Emirates, most of the team B, who apparently are in need of match fitness and sharpness, will get it right and put Orient in their place.

  27. stav says:

I think the end is nigh for Denilson, he is obviously a good player but just doesn’t suit the English game. I suspect he will go to Spain and we will all be wondering why he lookes so good! With Lansbury, Frimpong, Coquelin, JET and Rambo all waiting in the wings, I think the midfield will start to look very different in the next two years.

    OUT:

Rosicky – good player, but due a move to germany
    Denilson – Off to Spain
Diaby – talanted but again doesn’t fit in with the English game and usually injured anyway
Squilaci – too slow, I would rather see Bartley or Miguel (although only seen him in the Orient Game)

  28. ja Reyes says:

    rosicky out-average
    denilson out-average
    diaby out-not physica enough
squillaci out- where do i start average, doesnt talk even though he is 30 something

  29. redanddread says:

Complete joke of an article. You and some of your contributors are so blind and negative it’s unbelievable. You guys have a knee jerk to every and any result that doesn’t see The Arsenal win a match. How the fuck can getting a draw and still being in the FA Cup, be the worst result. Are you a retard or something. From the basis of your article it certianly seems that way.

  30. afc 1957 says:

we are still in there, and i am sure the 2nd string will put it right at the emerites. But i do agree when you make so many changes we do struggle

  31. Gunnner says:

Hey lets not put the blame on Song. He is no creative midfield. Denilson was atrocious throughout the match and it made Song look bad. Denilson unnecessarily hold on to the ball in situations where he had to play a fast ball. Passed the ball sideways more times than any Arsenal player on the pitch. Not to mention running to the teammate with the ball instead of finding space (I find this most frustrating).
This means that the ball hardly ever find its way to the feet of creative players like arshavin and rosicky who are higher up the pitch. When it did.. Denilson more often than not have held on to it long enough for the defense to withdraw and set it self up hence starving the players off space to maneuver. Song was the only one capable of bringing the ball up and actually bringing order to the midfield area. His lack of vision is excusable considering that he is not a creative midfielder to begin with. In my opinion had we not played Denilson, the B team would’ve played a lot better.

  32. soh says:

I thought Miguel looked very good..hope he plays next leg too..a great prospect for us

I am so disappointed with Chamack he looked so good when he 1st came…he needs a goal of something to get his confidence back…but can we risk him again?

I thought Gibbs was a bit better than your rating…other than that I agree with them

I am looking forward the the return match , as I only saw the away one on TV

  33. subesh says:

Just when we thought the Arsenal team were on the verge of achieving something they have managed to put a question mark over it yet again. What a disappointing match it was.If you beat Barcelona in mid-week and then draw against a league two side in the weekend that can only mean two things….1)Barcelona played poorer than a league two side and 2)Arsenal Played poorer than a league two side.Either way,Arsenal have no reason to be proud of and should be worried about the trophies they haven’t won for so long.
Hope is the only thing that Arsenal have at the moment.
    Come on you gunners!!

  34. wondrinfree says:

A predictably petulent knee jerk tantrum from the OP.

The whole game was completely controlled by Arsenal and we could have won by a hatfull.

However, the end result was a little convenient for too many people for questions not to be asked. Just imagine if Orient had approached Arsenal and said ‘look we know you are going to win but we both could financially benefit by having a replay at the Emirates’, Arsenal would then respond ‘Draws are difficult to stage beliveably and you might grab a late winner, we will agree if we score first and you only equalise at the very end when it would be too late for us to come back’. This would ensure no risk of losing to Arsenal and both sides would gain financially. Considering all the shots Arsenal didn’t take but passed instead or rolled gently toward Orients goal suggests scoring wasn’t our concern or intention.

When we win at home everyone will forget what happened and focus on whats ahead and both clubs’ accounants will be a lot happier.

  35. Sam says:

A new look Arsenal B side for next season.

    Fab
    eboue—-Kos—–Miguel—-Gibbs
    lansbury—-frimpong—Rambo
    JET—-Nicky B—–Arsha

Some facts are taken into consideration:
    1) Fabianski will deputize Cheshny and Almunia will go
2)TV5 will be ready next season and we see Squillachi in the summer
3)Frimpong comes back strongly from injury
4)JET impoves his fitness and his attitude (which I hear is not the best)
5)AA23 cannot dispose Nasri from the main squad and remains an impact sub in the 1st team.

We can easily sell 4 players—Squillachi,Denilson,Rosicky and Almunia!!!
    BRING ON HAZARD!!!!!

  36. Max says:

I thought Miquel was terrible, he got scorced on Orient’s goal & I now prefer Bendtner to Chamakh any day of the week
