Arsenal receive injury boost ahead of North London derby clash with Tottenham

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey will be fit to take part for Arsenal in this weekend’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, despite withdrawing from the Wales squad for Tuesday’s clash with Panama.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes as his side lost to France on Friday night before leaving the camp.

Given Ramsey’s injury record over the years there were concerns that he had suffered a setback, but Wales manager Chris Coleman has allayed those fears, revealing that it was always the plan for the 26-year-old to leave after the clash with Les Bleus.

“Coming into the camp we knew we were only going to have him [Ramsey] for France,” the former Fulham boss told a press conference on Monday, as reported by the London Evening Standard.

“No matter how he felt afterwards we decided it would be one game for Aaron Ramsey.

“I think coming into the camp because of what’s been happening with him at Arsenal in terms of his fitness we thought one game would be better than two.

“That was the thinking, he’s gone back to Arsenal. He will be available for them at the weekend.”

The news will be a big boost for Arsene Wenger as he formulates his plans to take on a Spurs side brimming with confidence following their recent run of form.

The Lilywhites defeated Real Madrid 3-1 at Wembley in the Champions League shortly before the international break and sit third in the Premier League table, although they are eight points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Arsenal can put a major dent in their rivals’ title aspirations at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday but know that defeat will be a psychological blow to their own chances of making the top four.

The Gunners are four points behind Tottenham but are aiming to close that gap to just one point at the weekend.

With talk of a power shift in North London, Arsenal can set the record straight with victory on Saturday.
