Arsenal unlikely to renew interest in Fekir even if he is available

Links between Arsenal and Nabil Fekir have been re-emerging after the Olympique Lyonnais forward’s agent opened the door to a potential transfer this summer.

Jean-Pierre Bernes told Le Dauphine Libere: “If at the end of the season, and this is not the case today, there was a decision to be made, then we would sit down with President (Jean-Michel) Aulas and we would find the right solution.”

The 24-year-old was named as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez earlier in the campaign, but no deal materialised. Alexis would go on to join Manchester United in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, so Arsenal didn’t need to sign a direct replacement.

Fekir was one of the best players in Ligue 1 last season, scoring and creating 13 goals in 28 starts, and has been even better this time round – 24 games, 16 goals and six assists.

The Metro believe Fekir remains a transfer target for Arsenal, but it’s hard to see where he fits in the squad given they’ve recently strengthened their attack.

The Gunners have Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for options, which might close the door on any deal for the Lyon forward.

He has a contract until 2020 and Lyon are keen to keep the French international at the Parc OL. Fekir has a meddling agent, however, who wants to keep clubs interested, all the while reaffirming his client’s desire to stay.

The 24-year-old is valued at around £67m, a price Arsenal surely wouldn’t pay to bolster a position they are currently overstocked in.
