Arsenal cant even hold a lead and kill a team off

Postby Sinbad » 2009 10 26, 8:20

So many times in recent years.

We take the lead, seem to be on our way to winning the game and then screw up.

We cant seem to kill the game off and we allow the other team a route back into the game by us sitting back rather then trying to score the killer goal.

We just cant defend, so why do we sit back? attack is the best form of defence.

But how many times have we been 1 or even 2 goals up and only to draw the game or lose.? I can name loads, Beating Chavski in the semi finals 1-0, Beating Liverpool 4-2 and drawing 4-4, Dito with Spurs, Being 2-0 up vs Brum. This season beating man utd 1-0 and losing 2-1.

And many many more.

It shows complacency and at times we show a lack of fight in the battle, Teams like West Ham, Hull, Stoke cant play better football then us of course but they all show more fight.

But yet Wenger bangs on about the mental strength, spirit and belief. Cant he see that this team has NO Leader and a lack of heart.

After West ham scored to make it 2-1 there was only one team that looked up for the game, We didnt look up for the battle at all.

We need winners in our team like Keown and Adams, With Players like Song, Diaby, Eboue and Mannone in our side we are never going to win anything.

Wenger cant see that we need winners in our team. Maybe not the most gifted players but the type that would take a boot in the head for the team.

We have a team of primadonna’s who think they just have to turn up, put the kit on, and they think they’ve got a divine right to win the game.

When the going gets tough, The tough aint at Arsenal

you can very easily detect weak spots and there are the reasons why we can't hold the lead, for a few seasons the problems are always the same,INEXPERIENCED players who lacks psychologically stability(that's why we break easily under any pressure),IMPROVISATION(players playing out of their natural positions) etc...there are more but those are the two main reasons by my opinion, but I am not disappointed in those guys and in our team,I know their current limits and I know what I can expect from them,I put my expectations from them one level down and from that perspective they are very good at this point

mate it's not just about sinbad,we all get depressed easily AND JUST AFTER ONE GAME I have seen that yesterday in the chat box, first we have to be honest to ourselves, then we have to be realistic and fair to our team!I personally think Diaby isn't good and someone else should get a chance, but that is manager's decision,I don't expect from Diaby to play good,or from mannone to be like casillas,I don't expect from Song to play like Gattuso,I don't expect from Bendtner to score a goal in next 7-8 games,I don't expect from Sagna to assist and do crossing like he did yesterday in next 10 games etc...put that all together and get the real picture about them,I did that and I made an opposite conclusion about our team-this team is really good, with all his problems and lack of abilities and improvisation in the team, they are really good if you see their current position

Damn... are we all sinking to a new low ? Why don't we just be happy that we don't get relegated ?

Yes, I'm pissed that they threw away a 2 goal lead but I can see where some of you guys still can be optimistic. Take Fulham for example. They played as well as us but we managed to win 1-0 thanks to some great goalkeeping by Mannone.

And just last week's game. 2-1 up, looking nervous and we managed to score the crucial 3rd goal to kill the game off. I wanted the same to happen ytday when we were 2-1 up. But instead of us scoring, we give a soft penalty away.

The best response is to go out and beat Spurs flat this Saturday.

I was clear that I think they are good, again,I put all our problems on one scale, and than I put the team results and current position on the table on an other scale...it's obvious they are doing well and in the borders of their abilities!but that yesterday what happened shouldn't surprise as like it did

Cant you understand that teams try harder when they play Arsenal. For teams like West Ham playing and beating Arsenal is like a FA Cup final.

They get a draw and acted like they won the champions league.

that is saying more about us and our commitment in the game then it's saying about them,I don't care how they felt when they have earned a draw against us,the fact is we had comfortable result 15-20 minutes till the end and against very weak opponent and we wasted our lead

It's good to check to see if a gut feeling is actually supported by the facts, so i've been looking at this lack of killer instinct theory for just the premier league games this season.

Firstly, how do we compare to the rest of the PL in terms of what happens when winning at half time? You would expect a good team to win the match if they were winning at half time because a good team can keep the ball and kill off the game. Arsenal come 16th in the league in this respect, which is shit. It is only a small sample size (9 matches) but right now it is not pretty.

Next, what about when we score first - how do we compare with the others? Answer = 10th. Shit again.

Finally, a glimmer of hope - when the opposition scores first Arsenal do pretty well at turning it around. We are in the top 3 for that.

So there you have it - proof that we are not doing as well as we should when we score first or lead at half time :(((
