Arsenal are a joke in the transfer market

It really is a joke the way Arsenal do there business in the transfer market. why do we always do this?

We always try and get players on the cheap, Savilla said that Arsenal’s offer for Squillaci was insufficient. And now Arsenal have angered Fulham with a second £2million bid for Mark Schwarzer – the SAME as one rejected in May. Now talks have stalled after furious Fulham threw out the cheeky bid.

AW have said there is considerable money to spend, So why are we hunting around in pound shops hunting for bargains?… if they are the players we want then just pay the going rate. Squilaci and Schwarzer are hardly world class players and for the pair of them it would cost us no more then £10m, again shows a small club mentality.

£10m to get the players we need and Arsenal are refusing to do so and are willing to wait till the last min just to save a few pennies. But its a dangerous game Arsenal are playing. They did this with Alonso a few years ago and missed out.

We made £34m in transfer fees last season and still money in the bank from this years dealings plus Christ knows how much saved in losing 8 wages off the books.

What I don’t get is this… With the sales of Traore, Simpson, Fran and Eduardo..plus saving on wages from Gallas, Silvestre, Campbell & Senderos. With only 2 players coming in and 1 of them was a FREE how can we still be penny pinching?

Be prudent with the money, but £10m in getting 2 needed players ain’t going to send us into Leeds and Pompey is it?… Its just Arsenal being tight f**king wads.

Nobody can balance the books like Arsene, and that my friends is the ONLY reason why he has just got a new deal at Arsenal.

Do we need keeper? YES. Do we need a CH? YES. Do we need a DM as back up for Song? YES!

With only 11 days till the window shuts, Wenger and his puppet board are playing games in the transfer market, JUST PAY THE GOING RATE!

I doubt they will buy anyone and Wenger will come out with the usual “garbage “of we tried but no one was selling”

Every f**king years the same. Injuries followed by Wenger saying “They will be like a new signing” when they return.

And then we get the great news on Arsenal.com to try and paper over the cracks by trying to get us all excited about the f**king clock. or the great news that we have just signed some 14 yr old from Timbuktu.

IM SICK OF THIS!….Where’s the ambition to win things anymore? Arsenal are a big club with a small club mentality.

I’m tired of AW playing the waiting game and then after the widow is closed giving us the usual BS about how inflated prices are and so on. I totally agree, the manager and board are tight arseholes, while other teams in the premier league strengthen their squad, this team is becoming weaker and turning into a kinder garden with so many youngsters. I’m sick of hearing rumours about us being linked with so many players and then nothing comes of it. So we play hard ball when it comes negotiating and no one can call our bluff or hold us to ransom. You think that is a bad thing, I suppose you’d wilt and give every club what they ask for every player or accept what was offered for your players.

You whinge far too much, we aren’t going to throw money at any problems we have and I can understand that its frustrating, but like I aways say to you even in moderation, grow some and hang on or if you cant then let go take up snooker or ice hockey.

This club has plenty ambition, and is a big club, so when any smaller club see us bidding for their players they up the price and we aren’t having a bar of that, I can’t fault that.

You obviously have a deep affinity to the club to blog about us, but you need to ask yourself if you support the club because you love the club regardless or you support them because you want to win things.

totol agree with most of this post, I think however we need to aim higher than Squilaci and Schwarzer however but your right in the fact we get bullshit told toi the fans by the board in that we now have the money ready to spend but then dont. people will say that for each of last 3seasons we had arshavin,nasri,vermaelen all very good players but we have sold players to more than make up the tranfers of these! Arsenal is the highest cost club to watch in the premership the club makes a mint on sales across the world and Im for one am fed up that after all this time Arsenal in the past have penny pinch in order to get a new football staduim so that one day we can compete with the bigger boys and have not and cant see this happening anytime soon! further more how come this summer no talk of a take over yet when it was last season u had the yank & russian wanting to buy..do they not no it can effect the team?! if you wanted to buy into Arsenal it was surely better to have done before the season start then maybe there would have been cash for new players…if are fans have been like liverpool,man utd,newcastle all of which have held demos on how the club is run maybe are voices would be heard but it seems most are happy just to moan from time to time about it or blame Wenger which again if any are true football fan can see his done a fantastic job given the money he has to compete against money bag teams.Im still saying lets find good young talenet and not pay over the odds but if we are truly to be a world class team go out and be able to buy top class players that may be the diffrents.

We’ll end up paying 2.5m and he’ll arrive next week, along with that CB. Sevilla are just playing silly buggers – they left him out of their CL game midweek so it’s obvious they are committed to selling him. There is an argument, one that I support, that all this business should have been sorted out prior to pre-season but it wasn’t. Now we’re where we are what’s the point of not haggling for cheaper deals for the sake of 1 week? The transfers will happen.

We don’t need another DM, Diaby can play there. I think it’s probably his best position. He played well for France as a DM, all things considering, & defensively he did well there against L’pool. He was off his game on the ball but that was his first game back after missing pre-season.

It’s obvious that Hughes is being a CUNT !! So abandon the Schwarzer chase, he’s better than our 2 clowns but not worth the hassle as he’s 38 & NOT Great. Regarding Squillaci it seems bizarre to be willing to pay a hefty fee for him but immediately show a lack of faith by only offering 1 year contract, I believe that has to be media mischief making.
I’m frankly sick of Arsenal’s incoming transfer dealings or lack of them as is always the case these days. Any signings we do make are like pulling teeth. There is no excitement & buzz for us fans just constant frustration & irritation as we all can see where needs strengthening, but instead for once paying substantial money for quality that’s needed we scratch around for what hopefully will be bargains like a small town club that’s constantly trying to keep it’s head above water.
The club are doing a disservice to the Star players we do have & to the fans who pay a fortune for Season & Match day tickets.
We all shouldn’t be debating this as long before the end of last season it’s been obvious what’s been needed so lists of targets, negotiations followed by completion of signings should have been done ages ago to bed in before the season kicked off.
Wenger said clubs aren’t selling. What he means is they are not selling for the derisory stingy offers we make.
Arsenal have received fantastic transfer fees for a number of players sold during the Wenger era & last season alone Arsenal were £30 million up on INS / OUTS . Occasionally when needed as it so glaringly is now we should be prepared to stump up for the very best to come to our club. This Schwarzer business is angering me deeply as we should move on & elsewhere. Arsenal should be above being messed about by the likes of Fulham & dismiss ever negotiating with a TURD like Hughes !!!

We offered £2m for Schwarzer, they said no. Schwarzer asked for a move so we offered £2m again. It stands to reason that they might be more interested the second time knowing the keeper wants out. Ok, they said no again but that doesn’t stop us making another improved bid. The other thing to bear in mind is that none of us know who Wenger wants. He might have taken Schwarzer for £2/2.5m but not for any more. Who’s to say he wont change his target now and go for Given? One things for certain, Wenger isn’t gonig to blow £4m on a keeper who frankly isn’t better than Almunia just to keep some ungratefuyl fans happy.

The transfer window is irritating but our fans lack of patience is astonishing. Wenger will hunt around for the best deal, he’s done it before and he’ll do it again. To say that Wenger only got a new contract becasue he balances the books is so wide of the mark and so ill informed it’s almost laughable. Wenger is a manager who has input in the running of the club from top to bottom and genuniely cares about it’s future. He’s not the sort of manager who would demand transfer cash to spend and destabalise the club (Redknapp) or walk out when financial realities begin to bite (O’Neill). If we didn’t have Wenger we’d still be at Highbury and we’d be trailing light years behind the likes of United, Chelsea, City and probably even Tottenham.

Some Arsenal fans really need to get their head round the modern game and the way business has to be done these days. If you are so unimpressed by a club who have one of the greatest managers in World Football, one of the greatest stadiums, the most consistent Champions League record and one of the brightest futures in World Football then by all means go elsewhere.

Your absolutely right, and i think most gooners must be as frutrated as you right now. It’s been the same story every pre-season for 5 years now. And i am getting fed up of being the laughing stock of the premier league with regards to transfers..

Surely the board can see that with just a few good signings we have a real chance of big acheivements this season, but without we have no hope, and the season will be a frustrating, so-close, and if only we had got those players we wanted, type season, just like the previous 4.

The worst thing about buying all these talented youngsters is, we spend years nurturing them , turning them into great players then let them go for free or peanuts, as soon as they show any sign of potential….

Well Sinbad, you can always become a Man City fan. They have lots of money and are willing to buy players instantly. Arsenal is a big club but unlike most big clubs is run as a business. This means achieving sucess on the field(staying in the top 4 and in contention for the PL title, and CL titile), buying low and selling high and maintaining a growing fan base. This has worked in the past and Arsenal will continue to use it. The club makes no public statements about transfers until after they are done. If Arsenal were to start going on tours of the USA or Asia to increase their exposure, revenue would increase even more but Wenger likes a low keyed preseason so that source of revenue is out. This is how the club operates and you can either accept it or start supporting another club which will make you less frustrated. i DON’T THINK aRSENAL IS GOING TO CHANGE their blueprint and it appears that most club are comming around to Arsenal’s way of thinking so you really might want to change to City. They appear to be one of the few with money to burn.

You clearly have a short memory, we wanted to sign him for months, but it was the same old story of Arsenal being tight and wouldn’t pay the going rate.

Thus we missed him, had to wait for the xmas transfer window to sign him, for the same amount we would of had to of paid in the summer.

So as a result we got a great player for a predicatble price that onlt played for half the season and was cup tied for the champs league, where we could of really done with him.

Yeah lets go out and buy the players we need for the silly money their current clubs are asking – sounds good business sense to me!!!! I trust Wenger and the board to get the best deals for Arsenal Football Club, not the best deal for the selling club or the few impatient blinkered fans that think we should go and blow millions simply because we have it in the bank.

I’m of the opinion that the transfers should have been sorted earlier as it was clear to all that we needed a couple of new CB’s and possibly a goalie, but without knowing the ins and outs of things its easy for us to suggest these deals are done prior to the start of the season.

I would prefer us to go for a younger keeper with experience – say upwards of 27 years old, but i’m only a fan and i wouldn’t ever suggest i know more about players capabilities and what our team needs over our Manager!!!

For those of you want Wenger out think long and hard – Arsenal would be in a much darker place without him.

I get the impression that it will take dropping out of the top 4 for anything to change. Then maybe
fans will show real anger and 40,000 a game at the Emirates might get some attention. 3 more years of injury plagued failures but nicking a CL spot, I’m sorry as I know a lot of smaller clubs would kill for this but its just BORING.

And before people start on about how poor we were in the 70′s 80′s etc football is not the same anymore, Arsenal were not getting 60,000 every game in the 80′s and fan were certainly not paying the prices of today (even in relative terms), if we’re not careful we will end up as a midtable team as once the fans stop coming the money isn’t there, even if we do want to spend it..

Its almost as if we have resigned ourselves to letting Man City/Chelski and United (on borrowed time?) to fight it out and give up trying to compete, very depressing. 10 years down the line are we going to see only City and Chelski winning it season on season? – that would be really sad for the English game but looks a real possibility.

The alternative to Wenger’s cautious approach seems to be to go out and spend big money on big players. And you think this is a less dangerous attitude then being careful about the money you spend in a very uncertain time financially and for Football? If loads of big named players were sittng around just waiting to be snapped up I’d agree but they aren’t. I think it’s incredibly short sighted to think Wenger wouldn’t try to sign a big name player if they were avaialable but, as I’ve repeated all summer, who are the big name players we could have got this summer that are a) better than we have b) available and c) wouldn’t represent a massive financial gamble. City, Chelsea and United have all spent bigger than us this summer but they can’t all win the league. I would take Wenger’s cautions growth strategy over speculative spending.

City are spending £20m+ on anyone they fancy but just attaching a massive fee to a player doesn’t make him worth it. We do need a keeper but for most of the summer there hasn’t been a keeper available who is really that good to justify spending a big fee on.

In another position, we could have challenged City for Yaya Toure but do you really think he would improve us that much to justify a transfer fee over £20m and wages that will cost, at a conservative estimate, another £9m a season. If you think that’s what we should be doing then fair enough but to me it’s ridiculous.

I want success as much as anyone but I support this club whatever, not just if they are winning things or spending stupid sums on players who aren’t worth it.
