Arsenal “censor” shareholders’ Q&A session with Wenger

Bob Wilson will host the annual question and answer session with club shareholders on September 16 after it was postponed in May amid fears of a backlash following another trophyless season.

Manager Arsene Wenger was due to face a grilling from Arsenal fans and shareholders over his failure to sign a new goalkeeper, tactics and other issues

BUT, the Q&A with Wenger on the 16th will now be “censored” and Wenger will no longer be taking questions from shareholders and fans from the floor. The club have NOW demanded questions in advance.

From the News Of The World

ARSENAL have been accused of trying to censor Thursday’s shareholders’ question and answer session with manager Arsene Wenger.

The club have NOW demanded questions in advance.

An official email invitation sent to every shareholder asked for them to be submitted by 5pm LAST Thursday and said they would be restricted to one question each.

Last year, host and former Arsenal goalkeeping legend Bob Wilson took shareholders’ questions from the floor.

And angry fans slated a shocked Wenger over his transfer policy, tactics and strategy, while some claimed players didn’t care about the club.

One shareholder blasted: “Arsenal are trying to gag us. This is the one chance we get to speak openly and honestly with the manager.”

One fan said: “I have always trusted Arsene in the past. But because he has not brought in a new keeper this summer, I am losing my religion.”It is believed the club have acted in response to last year’s meeting when Wenger faced savage questions over transfer policy, selection and tactics and chairman Peter Hill-Wood branded some of them “disgraceful.”

I’m sure Wenger will now get a host of Questions on his favorite brand of Tea and the club with Censor ALL hard pressing questions from the fans like,

Why didn’t we sign a keeper? What takes us so long to sign a player? Why has Arsene been given a massive pay raise? Arsenal said we could now compete with anybody in the transfer market, so why are we still trying to balance the books? What is going on with the club and Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov,Etc Etc…..

Arsenal is doing the right thing here. Too many dumb people whith even dumber questions. What other big company would allow this? No one.

I don’t know what you’re moaning about. Alex Ferguson doesn’t have to take questions from ManU fans, Mourinho never took questions from Chelsea fans… I don’t recall George Graham or Bruce Rioch taking questions from anyone either. I’m afraid you get what you deserve… if the fans cannot be civil in their questioning of the manager then I see no reason why the club shouldn’t “censor” the questions. Blame the fans and the blogs that egg them on.

If Wenger is generous enough and enlightened enough to do what no other manager in Britain does then it is up to those of us who actually value the opportunity to put direct questions to AW to make sure that the questions are tough but fair and polite. Not that some so-called Arsena bloggers would know anything about that with their infantile whining and moaning …

Jacob I think you have deliberately missed the point. its not a matter of fans not being polite or civil, its a matter of AW being held accountable for the way he does his job. There are glaring issues which never seem to be resolved like Why no plan B when plan A fails? Why are substandard players (Almunia, Fabianski, Denilson playing for Arsenal, “Why didn’t we sign a keeper? What takes us so long to sign a player? Why has Arsene been given a massive pay raise? Arsenal said we could now compete with anybody in the transfer market, so why are we still trying to balance the books? What is going on with the club and Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov,Etc Etc….. When these points are addressed I can be confident that they are doing their best. That is all we can ask for.

Well said, Jacob. You said exactly what I was about say. Anyone who doubts that AW has the best interests of the club at heart is frankly a sandwich short of the full picnic.

i regards to ur comments… arsenal doesnt have a sugar daddy like abramovich or even the glazers or hicks and gillet… so the shareholders are the ones putting the money into the club and part owners of it no matter how small their sharehold is …so in that respect arsene has 2 give answers to the owners no matter how insignificant their hold…

I’m not surprised the Board wants to gag fans. Arsene is the kind of manager they require – no trophies but plenty of money into the club. Questions from fans by a certain date and time, reminds me of African democracies. Supported by fans who are becoming more and more like Spurs fans – “we don’t care if we don’t win trophies as long as we play good football” – 20 years plus and counting for Spurs. Five years and counting for Arsenal.

The shareholders should be able to question how Arsenal football club as a company is progressing, they are the ones putting money into the club along with the fans. They have the right to question how their money is spent if they don’t approve of the current management.

Well done Adil for stating the blindingly obvious to Johnny and Jacob. Accountability, accountability, accountability. If AW was doing the correct thing (his job well) he would have nothing (taking open questions) to worry about. He could justify what he does. As he can’t his credibility as a top notch manager will be open to question.

What do u expect him to say ?? We tried but failed to sign someone. This will only undermine almunia which is not in our interests to do right now. There’s nothing he can do about it now so there’s no point having an inquest now. It’s counter productive. I’m just as pissed off about it as most people but no point arguing if we can’t change anything. Let’s see what happens in jan

Hope WEnger gets grilled. Why got he a massive pay rise for win nothing? He needed to strengthen the squad but nothing happened. To all AKB why can he go to the WC? He said before to do all business before WC but we got only Chamakh on a free. Wenger out!!!

The we love/we hate Wenger issue rattles on, to my mind both camps entrenched in immovable object and irresistible force dynamics. I’m on the fence, yes one of the splintered bum brigade, however I do think this season will tip me one way or the other. I am immensely grateful to AW for the new Arsenal he has created, I have been a fan since Mee and I have never seen such delightful football or such a bulging trophy cabinet. The youth philosophy with all it’s prudence in the transfer market needs to pay off this season, EPL or CL would do, I wouldn’t mind an FA cup too. My fears, that when we face a team with a quality attack our defence will fail. My hope, that AW’s dream will come true, so making mine true too….only time will tell, somewhere around Christmas time I reckon. In the meantime football as ever will only speak on the pitch.

I’m a taxpayer here in the U.S., but I don’t get to ask the president any questions face-to-face. And I’m fine with that. I’m sure the supporters who are angry with Wenger won’t be satisfied with whatever answer he gives to the supposed questions that they’re dying to ask. So what’s the point? Wenger deserves the utmost respect from our supporters. Unfortunately there are always a small handful not wanting to oblige that. Wanna protest? Stand outside the Emirates and maybe you’ll find 10 other folks to join you.

Jacob ……….. You are being thick as the 2 clubs you quote have 100% single ownership. Abramovich clearly not only has questioned his managers but in at least the case of Shevchenko, even gone above the manager’s head & purchased players of their choice.
Shareholders are entitled to have their questions answered & the club’s action is symptomatic of the Stalinist attitude of the hierarchy which was highlighted by the removal of the Arsenal TV channel which was an outlet for fans to voice their frustration. Despite not agreeing with all his managerial actions, I always thought Arsene Wenger to be decent stand up guy but this situation which must either be at his request or agreement, coupled with his acceptance of a 20% pay rise on an already phenomenal salary with ZERO silverware throughout the duration of the previous contract severely dents his standing as a man.

I’m sure Wenger will answer the question to why we never bought a keeper. Calm down!

“Stalinist”??? Oh come on! Get a grip man.

IF these stories have an element of truth, i would suggest its to try and weed out the mindless bile of a few twats who think coz they have a few shares they know better how to play the game.

Kipmonster… I’m being thick? How would you know? George Graham never took any question from anyone. Bruce didn’t either where were you then? And Wenger only talks to shareholders because they are fans… if they weren’t fans but only interested in a return on their investment then they’d have absolutely nothing to complain about… Arsenal’s value has grown at a faster rate than any other club in the world bar none. What was the value of Arsenal’s shares when Wenger took over and what are they now?

Ordinary shareholders have no “Right” per se to question Wenger as you claim. If Wenger refused to turn up at the shareholders meeting the ordinary shareholders can do sod all about it. Wenger is appointed by the board and is directly responsible to the board and the board represent a majority of the shares… they have more to lose than anyone else. It is because Wenger is an enlightened and decent man that he bothers but illiterate, uncouth and disrespectful loud mouths have taken what was a unique opportunity to understand why the club is run the way it is being run and basically destroyed it. Blame them.

The rest of your stuff is nonsense. Wenger has earned his pay rise. If nothing else the board must be aware that he is a man in demand. Bayern will take him tomorrow and pay him more and offer him a bigger transfer budget too and they are not the only ones. Wenger is the only top manager who actually makes his club a profit! Do you know that? And on top of that he has qualified consistently for the champions league. It is symptomatic of the delusional quality of some of the complaints against Wenger that some people raise his pay as an issue. Give me a name of any manager right now who could manage a club at the very highest level with budget like Arsenal’s and achieve the success we’ve had?. One name will do. How much did Benitez spend and how much was his salary and what did he win? Only an idiot will say that Wenger would have deserved his pay rise more if we’d won the Carling Cup and Europa league in the last 5 years, why do you guys keep yapping on about trophies as if all trophies carry the same weight? Who actually cares about the Carling Cup or even the FA cup TBH. Some of you aren’t serious… at all.

PS… Fergie never took any questions from shareholders/ supporters even when the Glazers weren’t in charge. He hardly takes questions from the press as it is! Yet some see fit to criticise Wenger on this issue… Personally I don’t know why he’d bother as he’d only get that sourpuss Kevin Whitcher moaning at him. Sod them Arsene and just do your job because when we do win something they’d be the first ones to celebrate!

    September 13, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Fergie doesnt need to take questions because he has won things you muppets

Wenger has gone almost 6 years with nothing

    September 14, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Hey Jacob, why don’t you go cup wengers balls. maybe clean his toilet for him and wipe his arse. your position is based on the premise that wenger is a genius because arsenal have a limited budget. The fact is, that’s the biggest fucking lie which allows the lying pieces of shit on the board and wenger to collude with each other in a scam. with clowns like you covering for them by saying they’re doing a good job and deserve a fucking pay rise. A payrise to fucking screw you and all arsenal fans while you sit there and eat up their neverending bullshit. Get it through your fucking head: the board and wenger are screwing arsenal out of a competative squad. arsenal do not have the best squad they could possibly have. with a TRUTHFULL board and a TRUTHFULL manager you would see that’s their plenty more financial room to improve the quality and competativeness of the squad. But this board and this manager a lying pieces of fucking shit, which is why the Q&A with that fucking liar wenger is being censored with questions vetted ahead of time. if they weren’t a bunch of lying pieces of shit, they would have no fear of what might be said.

This aren’t just fans these are shareholders who put money, however much, into the company. No you wouldn’t get this is any other bussiness? Shareholders always have q&a with branch mangers your just to iggroant to understand how the bussiness world works! And when did it become a bad thing or even a crime of censorship to ask questions? Hi wenger could please answer why you didn’t sign a keeper? Ermmm we tired but we couldn’t so i will keep faith for one more season… Thank you mr wenger. And you deluded fans think its some guy just shouting at wenger like he was at a pub and they were debating man utd and liverpool! Abousltey stupid you lot are!!! Censoring people who pay part of your wages, questions is disgusting and these fans on here trying to agree with that are disgusting and patheic! We need answers to why cesc is here if he wants to leave, why we don’t have any center backs, why we don’t have any second team calbire players covering for our 1st team players, how long will mr we keep faith in alumina? The center back question and the transfer period are the big questions nothing else and if we can’t get our voices heard then their is no colsure or progession for the fans or the club… I hate all arsenal fans that deluded them selfs in thinking we real fans want this club to fail and what to spend big like man city and spurs, we don’t, i think none of would like our young tslented squad to be filled with robinios and imbrahinvcahs, but spending doesn’t mean huge spending. Man utd spent 30 million on 3 players they needed, 2 stikers and 1 young center back. We spent 14 million on 2 center backs when we needed 3, and one DM player and one keeper. Great budet but if need to improve and have some money to spend without going into debt then it becomes a surplus and the club see no reason in giving us that money next season if we need it because it will have been invested in something else.

The c**ts on this website are the perfect example of why this is happening, the know-nothing crowd frustrated by their inability to understand anything football-related besides the amount of money spent are jumping at any opportunity to shout abuse and jump at the throat of anyone who doesn’t agree with them and then whine like whipped dogs when they get what they deserve.

Pathetic mongs. Go support Citeh and stay the f**k away from my club.

We have started great this season so far, players are really stepping up to the plate and we are playing fantastic football and bringing through some great youngsters

Chamakh has been a quality buy, Rosicky is playing great, Wilshere is coming through, like koscienly, song is the man, we managed to keep fabregas, nasri is back and we are without bendtner, v persie and ramsey…..dare I say it Almunia is playing really well too!!!

So what the hell are you lot moaning about………no trophy for six years?? pathetic whingers chelsea, man utd have spent 10 times more than us and are riddled in debt

Get a life and support the team no matter the weather….wenger has had a pay rise?? wonderful

Have u lot slagging AW off actually been watching the Arsenal? Or just Reading the sun???? We are an incredible team all thanks to ONE man…. In ARSEN we trust! I am much happier watching footballing gold from a team I love, a team that is finacially stable and secure giving me a peace of mind we don’t carry some outrageous debt or relying on some fucking rich pube destroying our proud English game! Knowing A.F.C will be around for my boy to love when he is my age!!! What will happen to the ‘big money clubs’ when the big money tossers are dead, gone or just bored! Long live Arsenal football club and long live Arsen!
