[Ratings] Shameful & Embarrassing Arsenal

Stoke 3-1 Arsenal

You just knew it was going to happen.

After beating Man Utd last week you just knew we would lose to Stoke today and like clock work poor defending put an end to our season.

I really hope that next season Wenger changes our team formation and tactics.

We are just dreadful. Sideways passing and one unorthodox forward just does not work. At half time and 2-0 down Chamakh & Bendtner came on but we still played the same way. RVP dropped deep into the Cesc/Ramsey role and Bendtner was again asked to play on the wing with Chamakh up front.

Its not working and we need to go back to 4/4/2 ASAP…. With all the ball today it took us 75mins to final test the Stoke keeper.

So now we need 4 points from the last 2 games to make sure we get 3rd spot.

Well done Arsene, happy with 2nd was you and if you would have known Vermaelen was going to be out for such a long time you would have signed a CB?. No more excuses Arsene, You need to sign decent players NOW and have a massive clear out.

Wenger said a few days ago that “When you sign a player you KILL a player”.. Well if thats the case then kill Almunia, Eboue, Djourou, Denilson, Rosicky, Diaby, Chamakh this summer…. But I doubt anything will change.

Szczesny 6.5 (Nothing he could do with the 1st or 3rd. But after getting  a hand to the 2nd he should of saved it)

Sagna 6.0 (Allowed Pennant to turn for the 2nd goal. Didnt have a great game going forward or at the back)

Koscielny 7.0 (Our best defender on the day. Didnt do much wrong and was let down by players next to him)

Djourou 3.5 (After he poor show vs Bolton and coming out with comments like “Wenger was right not to sign a defender” he really let himself down again today. Lost Jones for the first goal. Backed off Pennant for the 2nd goal and his poor attempt to clear the ball for the 3rd goal was just a joke. Sorry Johan but you are not good enough and Wenger needs to sign a CB in the summer fast)

Gibbs 5.0 (If what we read is right and Clichy will be sold in the summer then we need to sign a LB as this lad isnt ready at all, Weak and defensively all over the show)

Song 4.0 (His passing is just awful, i lost count how many times he gave the ball away. And we are playing with 5 in midfield and he is the holding player. He gives us no protection at all, We need a hard ball winner this summer)

Wilshere 6.5 (Showed heart but at times got involed in stuff he didnt need to. Nasty tackle on Pennant and its only a matter of time before he breaks a leg)

Ramsey 5.0 ( Was very poor and taken off at half time)

Walcott 4.0 (Forgot he was even on the pitch in the 2nd half. The game passed him by and when he did get the ball he lost it)

Arshavin 5.0 (Taken off at half time and Wenger tried to bring some height onto the pitch)

Van Persie 7.5 (Scored his 20th goal of the season. Where would we be without him. Feel sorry for him at times. No support in this 4-5-1 bullshit)

Rosicky N/A  Replaced Song..(No time)

Chamakh 5.0 (Miss hit his only chance, Ive seen 5 year old with more power in there shooting)

Bendtner 6.5 (Came on and played on the left wing. And fair play to him he looked dangerous but needs to play in the middle next to RVP)

am afraid it’s more than just a defender.
the team needs someone the pitch the can look up to
you can draft in all the defenders we want but if you dont
teach the defensive part how do they learn.
Do you really think the manager puts in the effort to sort out
    the set pieces?
no i dont think so cos its been going on for years

really poor, but as you say not unexpected.
Our defending is crap, but out attacking is also crap.
Unless its a stupidly open game like the NLD, we just dont look like scoring.
We are too slow, to deliberate and dont put an organised team under any pressure.

You are right about Gibbs, but wether clichy stays or goes I still think we need a new LB.
Too many mistakes at the back and not enough end product going forward to justifyeither of them.

Another centre back is also a must. However much you hate Stoke, you just dont see their centre backs making the mistakes ours do. Ours also dont offer anything going forward, so i’d rather us have a couple if no nonsense lumps in there than what we currently have.

We need another 20 goal a season striker to cover and support RVP.
He’s never played a full season and never will.
But realistically, can you see any of the above happening or will Wenger decide not to ‘kill’ one of our young players?

Arsene Wenger seems to have something with kids, why is gibbs not in league 1 playing. Too much average players. He needs to buy five good players and else i think about supporting arsenal this seriously again next season, this man is a definitely an idiot

Szczesney – ‘Nothing he could do for the first’. Are you serious? a guy scores a goal from within his six yard area with his abdomen and you say the keeper could do nothing? Against stoke you know what you are going to get and the keeper is absolutely vital to keeping them away. He should have come for it. in fact, whether its stoke or not, if the ball is in the air in the six yard box, the keeper has no excuse not to come for it. That isd his zone!!! he should be taking the ball and everyone in there!

Gibbs was shocking. absolutely shocking. he ducked out of the way for the first and at some point was over on the right wing leaving kos and arshavin to cover for him. and he wants a pay rise. in no way does he deserve it and should not get it.

as for your rating on wilshere i could not disagree more. the boy is 19. 19 ffs, and he shows more heart than the whole team put together. yes he got stuck in. yes he made some tackles. but how sad is it when a player who is 5 ft6 is the only one willing to do so? I love his feisty side and would not change it for the world. and robin was excellent also. so two players who allegedly have/had anger issues at a young age are the only ones with the balls to play. but no. we want to fill the squad with virgins like walcott and gibbs.

arsene got it wrong too. the formation is excellent when everything flows and i would like us to keep it. but for some games, you need to be able to change it.

I agree with titan49. Wilshere & RVP did us proud today and fought hard. The first goal was rediculous. Djourou had an aweful game for any league let alone the PREMIER League! He’s not good enough. If Rice retires as defense coach maybe next season we might finally address the weakness against set pieces. I think Theo is too weak to play against Stoke. He’s a great player but looks too fragile in hostile games. Chamakh looks another who is afraid & has lost confidence in himself since Xmas. I’d like too see Wenger bring in some physically & mentally strong players in the transfer window. BUT not slow! Speed with strength is what we need. Shame for Wilshere & RVP who all season have had their efforts wiped out by some frankly incompetent team mates.

I turned off after the second goal and decided to watch The Wire on sky plus. I could see how the game was gonna go so i couldn’t take it any more, plus i have to watch the game again on monday for work anyway. Turns out the episode of the Wire could have been better but it was still better than watching Song donkey around the pitch.

Oh well another season over. d*cked around in the league, lost and drew far too many games. Pussy footed in carling cup and lost to a team fighting relagtion and only had one tactic. Swaned around the pitch at old trafford and got knocked out of the fa cup by a man u team not at full strenght. Ok, Messi is the best player in the world but surely if we had finished top of our group we wouldnt have had to play him or barca.

Four different competitions, each with a sad pitiful ending to them. i hold very little hope in Wenger buying players in the summer and can’t wait for the phrase ‘Vermalen is like a new signing’ to pop up and a summer of Fabregas dicking around and all the will he , wont he bullsh*t.

    Here’s to next season

well fucking done wenger, just go and hand man shit their 19th league. if we had any sort of a defence and fucking stopped playing this pure bullshit ineffective passing game we would be at least 10 points clear now. wenger is like a cunt who enters your life and gives you riches beyond your wildest dreams fast cars slick suits a mansion the whole lot, and just then when your getting used to this lifestyle and think this is how it always will be, he comes back and takes everything away and leaves you with nothing but a fucking cardboard box to live in. why to fuck did he produce those great teams in his early days a mixture of muscle and skill with devasting pace and power, and then change everything and reduce his once beautiful creation to this farce. the season he let flamini go on a free, the last player we had with 100 percent commitment and workrate, and then to rub salt in the wounds kept adebayor and give him a payrise, that there was the writing on the wall. you win nothing with style and no substance and even worse this team has no style they are not great to watch anymore, that label should only be used to describe the earlier wenger teams they were an absolute joy to watch irrelevant of who you support and many opposition fans would always agree, but this fucking team with their sideways passing and never taking a shot on or driving at defences, they are boring as fuck and very easy to read. and fuck all you AKB,S. does he fuck know best he used to know best now im begining to wonder is he on some sort of drugs, why to fuck else would the likes of denilson almunia fabianski song diaby etc still at the club, fucking stevie wonder could see they are all useless and never had any potential. arsenal need somebody at the club that will tell wenger out straight that if he continues with certain players and his tatics that we will never win anything. he has surrounded himself with too many yes men and is too comfortable, when he first came he proved he was the best manager on the face of the earth head and shoulders above ferguson, sadly that can not be said now. he didnt need to spend all that much to get this team to win, because man utd are pure and utter shite too but they have already won the title and could jam the champions league yet. all he needed was a decent defence and to change those predictable boring passing tatics get his players to be more direct and fire shots in from all angles, sadly next season will be the same because i cant see him having a mass sale of players like he should and he wont address anything, it has gone on too long the same problems and no fucking change. untill something does change i will make do with watching wengers earlier team creations, cuz i would rip the tv apart if i was to watch these bunch of heartless clowns.

C’mon guys/girls, if you knew we would lose to Stoke today what are this weekend’s lottery numbers going to be? Be serious. Yes it has been a disappointing season – yes we have got people we need to clear out, and yes Arsene has to review his so-called philosophy.

Whether we believe it or, we are a miniscule away from major honours. You cannot plan for what happened in the Cup Final against Birmingham – Barca was not a major surprise, and the rest is history. Get over it…get behind the team. I know you have heard it all before but genuinely we are a whisker away from greatness.

Cesc will be leaving in the summer and hopefully one or two players will rack off too, but let’s not go over-board :))

Just out of interest who will replace Wenger if he was to leave?? Gaurdiola..yeah right….Mourinhio?? After what he did against Barca I am not sure he is the man for the job…

AW should just pack and go. A mean this guy is very sturbon and does not care anything about winning. It is time this man packs and go home plus players who are liabilities like Eboue,Asharvin,Bentner,Denilson,Almunia,Gibbs,Scuilaci,Chammak and Diaby. There must be a cleanout at Arsenal. Bring in experienced and formidable players. OPERATION WENGER OUT…

All of those commenting on this page seem to have an ignorant belief, if personnel and transfer issues are apparent in march then it is not till the summer that we can correct that. The transfer window is shut and has remained shut for the last 4 months, so problems with players at the club have persisted because we’ve had no CHANCE to buy/sell since then, so if the view was held in march that we needed a new CB in march why does everyone seem to think we should/could have corrected that by now? Wait till the summer people, then we will buy/sell, till then, just support the team, our squad members will remain the same for the next two games, sure these performances have reinforced that belief that we need new players, but this dumbfounded criticism between games is illogical and a bit desperate. Yes it was a terrible result but the the shower of bile that emerges whenever we lose is ludicrous.
Suddenly every player is ‘not fit to wear the shirt’; previous excellent performances are forgotten.
e.g.has everyone forgotten that Song had Rooney in his pocket only last week?

The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result This is the third year a I am opening my comment with this and it apply to what MR wenger is doing year over year. It looks I am close to being insane myself as it is obvious Wenger wil not change. . We know now this guy coaching skills are well overrated.
How many goals the players could have scored with a deflected shoot, Guess what the answer is zero, nadda, Null. Arsenal style is very boring to watch, no shoot, no penetration , no quick movement, no change of direction to surprise the opponent and after all no shooting . We all know that the player who are likely to score are the ones that try to shoot at the first occasion no matter in what position they are . If you shoot, you can have a rebound, a goal a corner and more over you are not predictable anymore with only one boring passing game .Combine the threat of shooting anytime from anywhere inside or outside the box with a good player movement (without the ball)and you will confuse any defense no matter how well they are organized.
Another year samo samo. Boring to watch. Wenger want just to prove a point , he is the boss. But this guy does not know what ihe is doing anymore.

    May 8, 2011 at 6:27 pm

They don’t care so long as they get the revenue from champions league football and their extortionately priced season tickets. OI got the renewal for my season ticket yesterday £985, the most expensive in the world. For that price I expect the see the best in the world, not some lacklustre set of players who are more suited to the Championship. I won’t be renewing or paying their over inflated prices until things change and the team start wanting to actually win and the manager starts buying the players everyone can see we need. They also need to get rid of the dead wood. It’s not about trophies but attitude.

Sorry but I disagree about Wilshere’s tackle being nasty. His foot only left the floor after hitting the ball. It was a good tackle. The sort of tackle that Arsenal get put upon them time and time again.

    May 8, 2011 at 7:11 pm

Said this before, that if Wenger is as great a manager as he is rated to be, then why does arsenal, year after year, have the same problems with weak defense, keeper, depending on other challengers to drop points, etc?

Take home 6 mil+ salary, prices of tickets to increase by 6.5%, and the team plays worse than a league 1 side. Only a stupid person would have even considered making a player like almunia the clown-blunderer as the captain (altho occasionally) of a “great” club (….or have we regressed?)

2nd placing is success, so what is 3rd place then? Dare we blame fabregas, nasri, etc of even thinking about leaving for real success elsewhere? Has arsene fooled all the AKBs yet? Or is he the stubborn fool who does not even seem to realise what’s wrong?

Its long since I was embarrassed to be an Arsenal fan but credit to Wenger and the boys they worked hard to get me to this stage during the season. In some ways Im glad this team has been shown up as average. I for one will not give Arsenal plc another penny until Wenger invests in our team and if he doesn’t we should demand he walks away. His legacy is well and truly in the gutter now and its up to him to show he still has it.

I am sick and tired of people who say ” whose going to replace Wenger” if he left. What the hell do you think other teams do ? They just find some other worthy manager and move on, and if that does not work, they find some one else. But to sit back and not take a chance and be afraid that the next manager is going to be worse than Wenger is purely STUPID.
Sometimes a change is needed. New blood, new way of doing things, new philosophy, etc. Every year that we end up without any cups, Arsenal become less relevant in the world of Football.
Wenger has had his chance, has had some great years, and now 6 bad years. A change is needed. There are many good managers out there. Does not have to be a well known manager to be good !
Buying proven players and mixing with young will work well, just like Man u., Barcelona, and others.

Arsenal won’t win the epl as long as the defence is giving goals away from set pices and corners.
This has been going on for umpteenth years and AW has never fixed it.
He is now associated with the best wc kids . If he continues with the gen y thats it.It will be another season of potless again untile the gen y know how to defend and convert chances.
By then the gunners will be another Liverpool ,challenging only for the Europa trophy.

Its disgraceful that players like over 50% of this Wenger outfit get 2.5 millions pounds pa. Now even Walcott turns out to be another pussycat, the defence is the worst I,ve ever seen in 70 years of watching Arsenal. Its an insult to any knowledgable football fan! It disgraces the Arsenal coaching outfit as does the PR and Boardroom team in that they allow to Wenger to insult us fans everytime he gives his boring interviews. This Arsenal team is BORING BORING BORING. I,d rather watch an Arsenal that was not successful but gave us something to be proud of like pride courage character endeavour professionalism gumpsion desire. To think that this lot earn millions is even more shameful than that the F A have not the guts to run the game properly#

To make everyone happy, why don’t we demote AW & let him handle Gunners second/third string team???!!! He can continue to do what he do best – spotting & train youngsters!!! We then can get another competent guy to run the club – Hiddink etc!!!

Both In Arsene We Trust & In Arsene We Rust group of supporters get what they want – AW is still here & we have another ambitious (hopefully) guy to run the show!! As for AW, like what I mentioned above, he can continue to do what he love most – never ending project youth!!!

The major problem is: Wenger still believe and insist that we have the right players, and doesn’t want to make changes. If people like: almunia, denilson, squillaci, chamakh, rosicky and diaby still in the team next season, he will kill a lot of arsenal supporters ( mentally). Still coudnt understand why he bought squillaci for 6.5 million but he didn’ t buy schwarzer for half of that!!! Probably cause the other guy is french!! Wenger out please.

Wenger is deluded, as he has been for the last 4 or 5 years. If he were at any other club in the world, he’d have been sacked a long time ago. As for the players; far too many of them aren’t good enough for a mid-table side, let alone Arsenal. If they keep playing like that and Wenger keeps faith with them, I’m afraid we may become a mid-table side.

Unfortunately I can’t see this crap ending. Wenger knows he’ll never be sacked and the board are more than happy with the money that comes from qualifying for the Champions League. Pathetic and no balls, the bloody lot of hem.

We’re in 3rd and might finish 2nd. I’d argue we don’t need to throw the majority of the team out. Set play defense organization does need to be sorted out…. I’ve read this blog before praise Song & Djourou to the heavens. We just beat Man U last week & you guys sounded a completely different tone. Are other fans so critical of their team’s and dependent on the latest game’s results? If we’re firing most of our team then all the teams from 4th on down must be firing everyone this offseason. My suggestion: calm down , it isn’t the end of the world. Imagine if you were a Spurs fan. Then you’d really have something to complain about.

    May 9, 2011 at 7:28 am

Ramsey looked completely shellshocked for the entire 1st half. He gave away the ball for the second. Djourou lost the man for the 1st. Theo was mindblowingly bad and Arshavin had zero interest in the game. Yet somehow SONG is the worst player on the pitch and it’s all his fault. I don’t even rate Song that much, but some comments here are crazy. Jesus wept.

  42. Dominic

    May 9, 2011 at 9:54 am

It’s not just a matter of lacking quality players in key areas that is our problem.
We don’t attack with pace anymore. It used top be that teams were afraid to take corners against us because they knew that if we won the ball then within 10 seconds Pires or Henry would be bearing down on their goal. Now it seems that the players believe that they must wait until our opponents get all 10 outfield players back behind the ball before we start to attack.
Another thing is that we continually pass the ball to a player who is standing still. This gives the defenders time to intercept or block the pass and makes defending so much more easy.

  43. Spud gun

    May 9, 2011 at 10:25 am

Why would a spud complain there team has fight and comes back from 1 2 and nearly 4 goals down as arsenal just fold when we take the lead (heartless spineless useless).paulk stop taking bollox, cecs is going modric is staying,I can only hope nasri stays but I wouldn’t blame him for going.so low and so heartbroken 🙁

  44. Matt

    May 9, 2011 at 11:40 am

I said before the season started that this season would just be more of the same inane pass pass pass sideways or backwards rather than making real attacking thrusts – and we would not win anything if we did and how I hate to have been proved right again! All our real class and true potential disappeared when Wenger built the team around Fabregas. Wenger also has no f*cking clue how to build a defence or how to coach defensive play when facing corners, free kicks or long throws. He brings in 2 average French league centre backs this season to follow on from Senderos, Djourou, Cygan, Stepanov, Gallas (we can see how sh*t he is at sp*rs) and more cheap cb imitations…instead of buying defenders who have played in England and have the balls and nouce to know what it means to battle and defend. Unless Wenger goes all we will end up with next season is more sh*t boring play and having to put up with the likes of Song, Eboue, Almunia, Fabianski, Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner, Chamakh, Walcott, Gibbs, Clichy, Squillachi, Koscielny and part time player Arshavin. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH 7 years of crap is anough for any supporters to bear! Let alone a club like ours who are supposed to be one of the biggest in the world!

@ Fevzinho of Surrey and all you fans talking about “We were close” have you ever ever wondered for how long you have been saying that and consistently for that matter.have you ever wondered why no other team says that except you? i will tell you why – its because you have grown to become mediocre just like wenger cause he’s been saying that for six years and guess what he said before today.
” we are still in all four competitions and we are the only ones” to “We are in 2nd place and that tells you its not ad” oh yes and i wonder what he will say seeing we will defintely end up 3rd or 4th” We are in the champions league next year”. The thing is He is so predictable and i for one am glad there is alot of venting on this blog cause had i told people we were going to end up 3rd i was going to be called all sorts. its quite simple when Wenger or fans say we were close you are simply substituting “Good” for “Greatness” and the EPL 1st spot has no room for good football but great football. you see whenever you keep saying you were close it means your opponents are your measuring stick and it should not be so, if you notice Arsenal have not EVEN ONCE capitalized on Man u’s slip ups this season and is it a coincidence? Man u as terrible as they have been have been arsenal’s measuring stick. the only reason we looked good is cause Man u had a crap but effecient team and chelsea had their blip and in the end it has shown. we need arsene to measure himself against his own success and not come out with this “We were close” rubbish and nonsense. He needs to change his attack philosophy and for once admit that he made a mistake letting Keown leave as defense coach and the selling of sol campbell is beyond me. i for one dont believe he needs to just buy CBs etc. i believe what he really needs to do is change his coaching staff as there lies the root. he needs to get of Pat rice like 2000 years ago and ring on the likes of bergkamp, keown, adams, bould and really reshuffle cause ive never seen so many school boy errors in such a side that claims championship material. not even STOKE is going to lose to mancity, they will win the FA cup with no talent whatsoever. He needs to address the obvious like the inefficiency upfront, we are trully a training center cos no team is afraid of arsenal anymore nor their possession. against man u we had 78% possession and against stoke 70% what plus possession and no goal.what sort of team does that? not even barcelona with all their miniture players have such defensive frailities, they always manage to defend, chase the ball and attack so i for one dont just think its down to buying stronger players, we need a change in philosophy. and by the way barca is always buying to supplement so who is arsene not to do so if he is so much trying to emulate them? for crying out loud the man is so proud he does not even get his team to watch other teams, when was the last time you saw Wenger go out to watch an opponent?Pep was there at man u vs Schalke, Fergie was there at Arsenal n chelsea’s games my he even wen to watch bolton i think just to make sure there are no mistakes, iam glad Wengers had it done to him, there were all theses fans talking about what kind of supporter wants his team to do badly.well the one that understands drastic changes are preceeded by drastic failures

Every dog has its day…………….Arsene wengers day was st Andrews Birmingham when clichy slipped up, eduardos leg was shattered and tottering gallas sat down and sulked like a baby.

All the frailties that day have simmered away and wenger and yes man pat rice have failed to address the failings that day. No leadership on the pitch, no fight, no team spirit, no tactical awareness, no communication between defenders/goal keeper, no ability to defend a winning position.

Enough is enough………thanks for the memories Arsene.

Be the man we know you are…………..and walk away.

Its time for Adams or Bergkamp i would rather we finished 10th with a passion and fighting spirit then pretty crab football where no one shoots………can’t take no more ground hog day seasons after season.
