Zzzzz Wenger sleeping, different summer same Arsenal

Every morning I wake up with the hope that today is the day that we have bought a great player that will make the difference and turn us into champions again and every night I go to bed thinking that another day has gone and we bought nothing and let down by our manager.

The transfer window has been open for 22 days and still we wait for Wenger and Gazidis to find the players we so badly need.

The Premier Champions Man Utd are not standing still, Sir Alex is getting their business done cleanly and efficiently..with Jones and Young.

Other clubs have signed players and are improving but yet Arsenal are linked with average players like Odemwingie, Gervinho, Seb Larsson and Joey Barton and a host of others.

Are they really better then what we already have? Yes we need new blood BUT we dont want signings for the sake of it. They must be better then the players already at the club. I cant see where the likes of the players named above would fit in or start ahead of?… People telling me that Gervinho is class but from what I can see he has only ever had 1 good season in his life and has never played at a big club. The last thing we need is a player who will take 2 years to come good for us and just like Nasri and Flamini the time they start looking the part they want to leave for nothing as there contracts run up…

Abroad other clubs have also been busy with Real Madrid signing Nuri Sahin etc. But where is Wenger?

This morning I got an email telling me that Arsenal made last-minute attempt to sign Raphael Varane, but Zidane had convinced him to join Real Madrid. Why last-minute? Its the same with Phil Jones? Why is Wenger coming in late for players? You would think he has identified the players he wants way before the window even opened.

Wenger said a few weeks ago that it’s not impossible that we could sign Benzema, but yet we can’t even agree personal terms with a player from WBA. Odemwingie said that we offered him pennants!

Gervinho has apparently agreed wages with us and now the 2 clubs are trying to agree a price for the player but like summers gone by Arsenal drag it out and turn it into a game of poker. I cant say that I really want Odemwingie or Gervinho but it shows how poor we are that we cant even sign players like them but yet Wenger is telling us we could sign Benzema?.

But do we really need to sign attacking players before we addressed the root of all our problems at CB? We have again been linked with Samba and Cahill but still nothing and now other clubs are sniffing around Cahill and today the Blackburn manager basically said that Samba was under a 5 year deal and wouldn’t be sold.

I dream of Breaking News on Skysport news that Arsenal have signed Benzema, Parker and Samba! But I know it’s just a dream. Wenger is going to replace old crap with new crap and all on budget.

Its a different summer but its very much the same old Wenger and Arsenal. Sleeping in the transfer market!

And they ask us why we moan at the raise in ticket prices, and people also wonder why you see so many empty seats at home games?

I hope Im proved wrong but this summer is just going to be like the last 4 summers. A few avarge signings but nothing of note, Wenger coming out with the same line that “we did everything we could but clubs didnt want to sell” crap and us going into the season with the same problems with the likes of Almunia, Denilson & Rosicky STILL at the club.

The problem with Wenger is this, he never wants to pay the asking price and because of that we miss out on players.

All that is left for Wenger is players like Chamakh, Kos and Sqill, Sol Campbell, Silvestre Bischoff etc.. Cheap players  who can do a job but are not going to turn us into Champions.

Wenger and Gazidis are a joke. Players running down contracts and leaving for next to nothing, lack of spending on needed players.

We all know the players we need but our manager wont go out and spend what is needed and like we have done since 2005 Arsenal will settle for 2nd best (At best)

If we dont have the money then SELL Cesc who clearly wants out and reinvest that money on quality players.

Where are the signings? Where is the ambition?….

Benzema or Etoo/ both proven, both quality, both goalscorers
    Hulk – Beast
Moussa Sissoko…the guy is a monster in the making and his attributes would suit the prem
An aggressive Centre back/Samba seems the logical choice
An actual left footed tricky winger/Alvarez is pretty tasty but havent seen enough of his games to judge completely – would add some hieght to the team too// or Douglas Costa – he is a problem to any defender and has champions league experience
Goalkeeper – Seb Frey would do nicely

    Fabianski or Mannone
Fabregas – He has lost his desire to play for us, and shouldnt have been made captain anyway

I would say Wenger too but there isnt a replacement out there except hiddink, and he wouldn’t come due to his Chelsea connections

Unfortunalety due to Wengers he has aquired too many attacking midfielders as opposed to ur conventional centre midfielder, ie vieira for us to switch back to a 442, or at least have it as an alternative tactic. For example, when we are playing hartelpool in the FA cup, we dont need three in the midfield.

As for Arshsavin, i am a big fan although his form was poor. He is not a winger and never has bin. he should play behind our main striker so he doesnt have to cover our fullbacks, he clearly doesnt have the stamina for it so he shouldnt be utilised in a position that exploits his weaknesses

if nasri signs a nu contract, great, if not, on to the next one. No player should leave us without a hope.

@Admin: The transfer window for English clubs selling to each other opened on the last day of the Premier Leauge season, that’s why the Phil Jones deal at Utd is done, but English clubs CAN NOT buy players from clubs in other countries until July 1st. All deals that “have been done”, at Real Madrid e.g., are PRE AGREEMENTS, that means the player will move clubs WHEN THE TRANSFER WINDOW OPENS ON JULY 1st! We have 2 whole months to get the right deals sorted out, panic at this stage is absolutely ridiculous.

@FRUSTRATED FAN: How many fucking English players were there in the Invincibles squad? ZERO, that’s a ridiculous argument and it doesn’t hold water for one second, our problem is not in any way related to nationality. English players are overrated and overpriced and they’re not good enough technically to play at Arsenal.

if all dissenting voices went and followed someone else because their view is not the same as yours then barnet would get a bigger crowd than the arsenal.

    GROW UP!

The fact is we are being made mugs out of again and being promised “jam tomorrow” for the past five years is wearing thin.
The colorado rugs silence since taking control has been deafening.
Wernt we told many moons ago that moving to the emirates would enable us to compete with the biggest teams in europe when it comes to transfers? more lies and we are still expected to pay the most in the world (yes, world) to watch a game of football.

Like most I want to hear some good news about signings, but the article is not 100% correct. You are pissed cos you are anxious and impatient. Who has Chelsea or Spurs signed? I would suggest that you take a break, relax and post a sensible comment when the transfer window has closed.

@Robel: Cesc. Fabregas. Average? Cesc Fabregas had the best min/chance created from open play – one every 28.6 minutes – in Europe’s top five leagues last season. He was also the player with the best minutes per assist in the top five leagues for 2010-11(one every 172 mins). Since his debut no player has provided more assists in the Premier League than Cesc Fabregas (70) Over the last 5 season Fabregas has created more chances than any player in the top 5 leagues, he’s created more assists than any player in the top 5 leagues also over the last 5 years, ahead of xavi, messi and alves. Don’t kid yourself he’s by far the best midfielder in the league and only Xavi is on his level worldwide.

Its quite obvious that Wenger has lost the plot and it has been a long time coming. He still perhaps see’s that the way to manage the football club on and off the pitch remain the same without any stronger conviction beyond how HE views i. I would not want to over-flog the issue as I have done so on other blog sites but just as the previous comment noted; until we change Wenger we are going to put up with whatever he dishes out and however he does for quite a while. we will be killing ourselves with hopeful/lucky performances rather than proven or established exploits. Other players are getting fed up, fringe players don’t mind—ha ha. Patience my dear Watson—my thoughts are running wild.

If you judge what the club is doing from the tabloids then thats your problem. No one on here knows whats going on behind the scenes. But obviously as you intellectuals all play fantasy manager, you know how easy it is to sign players dont you? I mean, all you do is click a button and hey presto! We’ve signed Kaka.

Terrible, ill informed dumb assed rubbish.

Frankly, I think Arsenal has lost so much of its reputation as a big club, that even the average players we chase do not want to come.
I don’t know what the answers are, except to accept that big money has to be spent. Apart from that I don’t think that the boss has the answers either. Maybe we need new blood. Borrow a page out of the Chelsea book, for just one season.
As for Gazidis, the guy is a joke.

So many so called fans moaning about Arsene all the bloody time, fact is that at most Arsenal games at some stage 60000 fans sing theres only one Arsene Wenger, this tells me that you lot are a small minority of arm chair fans who no ef all about football……

Transfer window closed on the 1st of September so stop your whinging and stop being so impatient, your like a bunch of school kids.

To the idiot above who claims that our previous “invinsible” team had no english players: Sol Campbell, Martin Keown, Ray Parlour, Ashley Cole. Just more prove that Arsenals blogging fans talk rubbish, the lot of ya.

Get your facts straight, stop moaning and be patient, thats my advise…………

So what great player (or players) is going to make a big difference next season? What great player will win us the quadruple we could have won this year? Messi? Javi? Iniesta? All we need is a good CB and replacements for those leaving. It doesn’t have to be Pique- or cost 30m– just someone who will save us 10 extra goals next season. If they are free— so much the better! Take a cold shower,– relax, do something to help someone– it will make yourself feel good. Worrying won’t make any difference. The press will wind you up like bungee elastic if you let them. AW will sort it- or he won’t. My guess is that he will.

Very good article. You said pretty much everything I have been saying lately. The one thing I do disagree with you though is regarding Gervinho. I happen to think that this guy is better than an average player, and he will excel in the Premier League over the next few seasons. He has alot of pace and trickery that will win us alot of free-kicks next season. I know he isn’t exactly a superstar YET, but I really think this guy has a chance to become one.

I attend every home game and the last 6/7 games ( apart from Man Utd) there have been considerably less than 60,000 fans in attendance. The last home game against Villa only 10,000 fans bothered to stay after the match ended to clap the first team squad as the paraded around the pitch – it was embarrassing and reflected the feelings of the majority of fans towards Wenger and the board – they expect a lot more from the club and are not getting it!

    June 23, 2011 at 12:27 am

Wow, I’m actually embarrased that this guy supports the same club as I do. How old are you? 12?

Firstly, @ASD is bang on the money. The European transfer window does NOT OPEN until July 1st. Which is why the transfer market has been so quiet.

The biggest EPL signings? All Premiership signings. So clearly you know nothing about football (particularly transfer business) else you’d have realised WHY we have not signed any of your world class players on your football manager shopping list.

It’s obvious to me and anybody else in here with an ACTUAL FOOTBALLING BRAIN that you’re just throwing your toys out of the pram because you’re impatient and as Sid so hilasriously put it, you think that signing a player is as quick as picking up the phone, calling the desired team and saying ‘Hello, I wanna buy Benzema, we’ll pay £40m. He can get here tomorrow? Ok great lemme go tell Sky Sports’.

You rant on and list numerous players and all you’re showing is that you believe everything you read in the papers or the TV. So I’ll utter again, THE EUROPEAN MARKET IS NOT OPEN YET. The only players therefore we have shown any TRUE signs of bidding for are Cahill and Samba. Samba’s deal will take a significant amount of time because he wants to go but Blackburn do not wish to sell. That cannot be resolved in a day and it’s not as simple as ‘OK here’s £14m, gimme.’

Anyway, I’m not going to break down every detail of why there’s been no signings announced.

Here’s the bullet points. Wenger is shrewd, he keeps his cards close to his chest because there are atleast FOUR Super-Money teams out there who know Wengers gift for spotting talent and they WILL throw money at anyone we’re looking at. So ofcourse he’s not going to tell the world who we’re after. We can’t fight financially.

Tournaments & Holidays – Players are either on one or the other, which tends to delay any contract talks.

Wenger is trying to keep our most prized possesions. Nasri & Fabregas. If you knew the club and Wengers MO like the true fans do, his first pre season priority is ALWAYS keep his best players. Once that’s tied up and the month ends, THEN things should start to get interesting. Stick to playing Football Manager.

Lastly? THERE ARE TWO MONTHS TO GO BEFORE DEADLINE DAY. So grow up, leave the internet and Sky Sports News alone and go do something productive… like showering or having a shave… wait… are you shaving yet?

We all want to see some quality signings at the club. We’re all frustrated at another trophyless season, Wenger has (admittedly, it took him long enough) seen the error of his ways and has made plenty of statements, as has Gazidis who by the way braved the baying of the AST, and said signings will be made. So judge them when the windows closes. If nothing occurs, then you can scream and foam at the mouth and rant all you want… I’m sure alot of us will join you. Until then, stop whining and leave the football articles to people who know the sport a little more than how to create a world class dream team on the latest football manager game.

Seriously, this is moronic, childish and embarrasing.

    Oh and @Mike.

Great display of your knowledge of the club there mate. ‘Gazidis, this guy is a joke’.

Really? that’s your entire scope on one of our most senior and most active members of the board? A joke? You sure you don’t have anything to add to that as to why? Just… a joke?

No Mike. Your opinion…. albeit a short one, is a joke.

    June 23, 2011 at 2:30 am

Wenger likes to wait until the last day of the window to try and save a few quid. If he wants Samba who’s been valued at £12m, he’ll wait until the last day to offer £6m, then try to do the deal an hour before the window shuts at his price.

My fear is he’ll wait and wait to get a bargain and we’ll miss out because we can’t agree a price on the final day and then there’s no time for alternative buys. Then he’ll turn around the next day and say we tried to sign lots of players, but the deals never worked out.

The author makes a good point about Fergie identifying his targets and getting his men quickly and decisively. Wenger is a ditherer though and we may miss out on top players yet again because of it.

    This is all stupidity.

Still anyone think AW will sign good players. Those are most stupid people in the world.

AW is cheating all the fans by saying all the shit words. He is not going to buy anyone as he is happy with CL birth.

He is not taking time to buy and all. He is not at all trying to buy. These all roamers are shit.

It will end up buying some poor average players this time also. We fans will be cheated again and again from this profit making club.

AW still waiting to get good money from Cesc.
