No doubt many of you are in shock at the news that Cesc, Nasri and Clichy could be leaving the club for almost £65m? No doubt some of you are upset that the manager is thinking about replacing them with players like John O’Shea, Barton and Odemwingie? No doubt some of you are angry that the likes of Denilson, Rosicky, Almunia are still at the club… Welcome to the real world and life under Arsene Wenger since 2005
This is nothing new… Wenger has been doing this for years. Selling our best players to the highest bidder, regardless if they are our rivals (Adebayor & Toure) and not invested that money back into the team on quality and signed cheap replacements… Do you really think that when we cash in on the likes of Cesc and Nasri that Wenger will turn over a new leaf and start spending on players like Benzema and Mata? Wenger will do what he has always done. He will cash in on our best players and sign cheaper, untested players from france, kids or stop gap signings like Squilliaci Silvestre, Campbell, Lehmann.
Can you really blame players for wanting to leave and for losing faith in Wenger?
We have all known for some time that we have been weak at the back and have needed 2 powerful CB but yet Wenger has faffed around for years and not addressed this. Players want to win things and just because Wenger and the current board have ZERO ambition in life other then make a profit and finish in the top 4, you cant ask players like Nasri, Cesc and soon RVP to be happy with this mentally and keep dreaming that next season we will be that superpower and new Barca that Wenger thinks we will. How much longer can we dream this?
People that have followed this blog know this is not a knee-jerk reaction. We have said this for a long time, and Wenger is the root of ALL our current problems at the club.
The board are to blame for giving him the power to handle non footballing issues and almost making him unsackable. His job/role should be nothing more then managing the team and tactics.. Not sorting out the clubs finances. How did we get to this stage where we are allowing players to leave and not tied them down to new long term contracts a long time ago. Now we are going to lose Nasri for the same price as Henderson and Clichy for £7m.. But this is nothing new. Cole/Flamini where the same. Who is allowing this to happen?
But having said I dont even trust Wengers tactics anymore. His current 4-5-1 with wingers on the wings has to be 1 of the most frustrating systems I have ever seen in my 30 years of watching the gunners. We keep the ball, pass from side to side and refuse to test the keeper when given a chance. And then we finally cross the ball into the box with is normally a bad ball in or when its a decent cross we have nobody in the middle.
And Arsenal want to charge us 6.5% more to see this next season?
Arsenal have become the most expensive football team in Europe to support..FACT!! With that you would think/hope that we invested in World Class players… Do you remember when we moved from Highbury we were told that we would now be able to fight with Man Utd for the best players in the world?…Look at us now? Selling our best players to Man City or anybody who is willing to give us the best price like a cheap whore.
It kills me to say this but RIP Arsenal FC, You have taken fans like me who have supported the club for over 30 years and ripped our hearts out with this lack of ambition and profit making project. I wont be spending any money towards the club on new kits or any merchandise in the future and I advise all Arsenal fans to do the same and make a stand. Turn up to the stadium in black and when they say ” today’s attendance is 60.012″ and you look around and see 1000s of empty seats thing to yourself was lift at Highbury so bad that we moved to this?

After last seasons farce I expected the club’s stance would change regarding its failed transfer policy, and I am still hoping, although not with any real optimism, this is the case and we will see some real quality signings. If it doesn’t I agree Wenger and his supporters on the board must go!!

Spot on post. Garbage like Denilson, Rosicky, Bendtner, Eboue, Almunia, all paid too much for what they produce. No one wants them. They want our cream. Idiots like Gazidis gives high wages and long term contracts to players who can’t defeat 2nd division teams. Whereas Nasri who cost is £15m isn’t tied down to a long term contract.

Losing Nasri is NOT the end of the world guys. He was great at times last year and in the two previous seasons, but once again inconsistent throughout the ENTIRE season. It seems obvious Nasri has grown too big for his boots and we won’t cave to his wage demands … or he would have signed by now. IF this is the case, the sooner he goes the better. I doubt he goes to Man C or Manure though.
Clichy to Man C doesn’t guarantee a premier league title. He is average, WITH premier league experience, that is all. He falls over too often and sucks at defending. He has not progressed in 2 seasons … let him go wherever, doesn’t matter. If he is so great, why can’t he overtake Evra/Abidal in the french team. Average player who also wants too much money for his lacklustre and inconsistent preformances. Good riddance…

His continuous failures over the last 6 seasons has rubbed off on the good players we’ve had. Do you really think that Fabregas would want to go had Arsenal delivered silverware ? This is nothing new its been happening for years, Overmars, Petit, Anelka, Henry, Vieira, Hleb, Adebayor, Kolo. In the past we have accepted it because we were told that we had to pay for the new stadium. The new stadium was not for the fans as we all thought it was, Turns out that since the plans went through and especially since Mr David Dein (the only person who can now save the club) has left, the board have been running the club to increase the value of their shares so that they could sell in the future takeover, which is currently going on. Its also rediculous although i dont agree with his backgroud that we have a potential investor in Usmanov who owns 30% of the Club, yet he has no say in what goes on at the club and is not allowed to invest money. The board are happy with wenger in charge as he is the most profitable manager in the world. Wenger is happy in charge because he has complete control and no accountability. I cant blame the players for wanting to leave the club has not shown any abition since Mr Dein has left the club. Maybee if they didnt waste wages on Young player who are never going to be good enough, or crappy squad players who beleive there own hype then we could afford to pay clichy and samir the extra money they want, and show the ambition with a couple of big name signing to keep cesc at the club 1 or 2 more season to bring Rambo and Jack through. But this wont happpen, yet another season of broken promises. I will put my house on it that Arsenal come out of this tranfer window having made a profit once again. One of the main reasosn that Wenger has so much control in so many areas is that the board are ‘investors’ NOT “fans”. They are there to increase their share value…NOT to win trophies. The quicker they pay off the stadium debt the more the shares are worth because any buyer has less debt to take on! They have no idea about football matters and therefore overly rely on “football man” Wenger!
Kronke admits he doesn’t like or understand “soccer”. So how can you expect him to make the right appointment to replace Wenger anyway? Fizman was made out to be some sort of hero but he was no different. A tax exile in Switzerland – he rarely attended a game! He was also responsible for ousting the one football man on the board – David Dean.
Kronke’s best move woud be to put Dein back in charge of running the club and then the right investment on the playing side will return. But it won’t happen because Dein got in to bed with Usmanov (Kronke’s share rival). Arsenal would be in better hands if Usmanov was in control (and he is richer than Abramovic)!

As we write this, the “beaks” of those “wolves” on the Board of Arsenal FC must be flooding with saliva right now – in anticipation of feasting on proceeds from the auctioning of Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri etc. By 31st August 2011, Mr. Arsene “the- profit-maker” Wenger will have more than enough for them to “eat”. He is typically recruiting more kids – Carl Jenkinson, Oxylade Chamberlain etc to groom and sell (again) when they peak in 2014. What a “brilliant” manager and “ambitious” Board! Wenger solves Arsenal’s defensive problems by signing Silvestre!
Arsene Wenger has had many years (three at least) to fix the problems in the Arsenal defence, but he has finally found the obvious solution (Why didn’t we think of it ourselves!).
Wenger has found the “experience and maturity” that he believes is all the Gunners need to win the title, and he has signed (for an undisclosed free) the Man United defender Mikael Silvestre!
The Arsenal manager said in the Gunners’ official website: “We have a strong squad but a young squad and Mikael’s versatility, experience and calibre will provide the extra depth we need to reinforce our challenge for honours this season. His defensive adaptability will serve us well and it’s a big plus that Mikael has top level experience and a great understanding of football in the Premier League.” (Aug 20th, 2008)

Anelka was an ididot and even admitted that he made a mistake leaving Arsenal and Hleb the same thing. Henry left when he was past his best and the same with Vieira and we actually kicked him out of the CL. Kolo was past his best and him and Gallas couldnt get along, it had nothing to do with what you are referring to and I dont even know why you mentioned Ade!

If you rememebr Overmars was at the top of his game when he left us. Petit left and broke up at the time the best central midfield partnership in the country. I am referring to selling our best players once a decent money offer comes in. Admittidly they all were happy to move and in the case of Anelka actually actively seeked a move elsewhere. What im trying to get at is where would Barca be now if they sold over player who had a decent season? You have to keep onto your best players and add to them. In recent times every summer after winning the league wenger has weakened the side instead of keeping the best players and adding to them.

I suggest you haven’t got a season ticket in which to put your idea to the test. It’s easy to shoot your mouth off online….. ‘don’t turn up at games’…. ‘don’t buy the merchandise’…’ don’t pay for this or that and give the club your money’. Why not go the whole hog and tell everyone to stop supporting the club, let’s get them relegated, that’ll show them, that stupid man Wenger and his Arsenal board full of idiots!

I am and have been a season ticket holder for over 35 years and a supporter for 45 years. Does this make my opinion better or more informed than anyone else? No, it does not. Am I happy with the situation at the club? A very resounding NO, I am not happy. So what it does it make me? It makes me a supporter. It does what it says on the tin. Support! Support the club, support the team. support the manager, et al.

The article makes some very strong points, particularly about cheap, makeshift squad players, when we all know that more investment on better players could have made a difference, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. It also assumes which players will be sold or signed, based on media speculation, which is at best ill-informed or at worst scare-mongering.
In our recent trophyless years we have had to compete with Chelski spending 100’s of millions to secure players, with over-inflated bids on over-inflated contracts, now Citeh are doing the same. What do we and right-minded fans say about this? Chelski’s achievments are belittled for having bought the trophies, we will say the same about Citeh if they do go on to buy the title. Yes, I would love to win all the trophies every season. Would i like to do it the way Chelski and Citeh are doing it? Well call me ‘old-fashioned’ but no, I would not, i am not a hyporcrite!
ManUre are a different proposition, they are spending money (not in the Chelski or Citeh league) because they know that if they are not competing or winning trophies the spotlight inevitably falls on the club’s finances, how much debt the club has and how much the Glaziers are filtering out of the club, giving the green & yellow contingent more ammunition to give the club a good kicking and to focus on everything other than football. (by the way, the suggestion that we all wear black and stand up ‘to be counted’ should take note ‘ focus on everything other than football’).
I hear all these opinions calling for ‘loads o money’ to be spent/invested in the team thinking that it would clearly win us the title, now the last time I checked ‘the mob down the road’ have regularly spent 60-80m a season for the past 10 years and what has this bought them? One top 4 finish! We have finished in the top 4 every season in Champions League history. Am i happy with being top 4 every season? You bet, I’m happy to see Champions League football every season at the Emirates (Just ask a few scousers about what it’s like to miss out). Don’t get me wrong, as I’ve said, I would love to win every trophy every season. I also don’t believe the club or Arsene Wenger are happy with just finishing 4th every season.
i believe Wenger is a winner and am prepared to trust him to turn around it around, however, as I’ve said I’m not entirely happy with him or with our situation. I think his biggest ‘Achilles heel’ is his stubbornness. I think he firmly believes that his tactics and style of play will win through regardless, when clearly it doesn’t (Sunderland, Stoke & Bolton, last season, spring to mind), he needs to spend more time on other teams weaknesses, work out what it takes to beat them and adjust our style of play/tactics accordingly. I’m sure he can do this without totally compromising his beliefs.
I’ve renewed my season ticket next season, put my money where my mouth is, as the saying goes.

And by the way, Wenger has been with us since 1996. That’s fifteen years. His first half ( seven years ), were his best. His second seven or so, he has delivered virtually nothing. So overall, his record indicates he is just a so-so manager at best. And I dare say if he stays for the rest of his contract, his “success” percentage will drop even further. Wenger is trading on past glories, which are fast fading. He is damaging all that he achieved in his early years, by staying at the club. He has lost his mojo. I’m constantly growing concerned about the managers mental wellbeing, his behaviour on the touchline sometimes is rather embarrassing and disrespects the history and the reputation that has up until the last two or three season been strong.. even in defeat. But it upsets me to see our great club and manager ridiculed by the press, commentators and opposition managers and supporters when previously there was nothing but respect. The supporters have a right to be heard and the club MUST listen because it’s us who support the club, it’s us who buy season tickets and it’s us who have to take the punch on the chin each time we fail and it’s become a bad habit we must drop and drop NOW!.
I think the team is one of the weakest in arsenal history, we have some good players but we also have some imposters that have no right to be pulling on the famous arsenal shirt and calling themselves professional players. The club has got to stop going cheap on it’s supporters when they invest so much in the club they love and only want the best. We just want to see a team that has motivation and fire not heads down the minute we go 1-0 down. I love our passing game, it’s one of our qualities that we don’t play route-one football like some other clubs in the prem, but we need some result at the end of it and in past seasons we have one or two players who will roll their sleeves up and get stuck-in and others looking at each other to do it and meanwhile Opps! the ball is in the back of the net again! and some unknown player from some club who hasn’t scored in five seasons scores against us.. yep! it’s always us it happens to.
So to mercifully conclude.. i don’t want any activity in the transfer market to be a knee-jerk reaction by the club to try and pacify us supporters while keeping shareholders even sweeter. If he makes signings they MUST be quality but we know at times wenger is pants in the transfer market and the club is reaching a stage where top players find the club an unattractive proposition to play for and invest potentially four seasons of their career regardless of the wages which of course we know have become obscene and only adds fuel to the fire that any player might just have an ounce of love for the history and the club they play for each week. So to the future.. we certainly need new players at the club but the right kind and the right qualities.. more importantly defeat should hurt and hurt bad rather than how it has become to many in the team… a dull ache that ceases to exist the moment they hit the dressing room have a shower and head home to check their bank balances.

It’s truly beyond a joke now. We all care about the club and we all have a right to an opinion regardless of it being right or wrong. What nobody can ignore is that there has been no progress at the club for the last 6 years.
