Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could still stay at Arsenal because they ‘love the club’, says manager Arsene Wenger.

The pair are out of contract at the end of the current campaign and speculation has risen that they will be allowed to leave for cut-price fees in January rather than departing on free transfers next summer.

However, Wenger is still holding out hope that his star Arsenal duo will put pen to paper on new deals, although he admitted that the ‘quality’ of the offer on the table would play a part in their decisions.

“The quality of the contract has to be good enough for them as well,” the Frenchman said at a press conference, as reported by The Guardian.

“I am convinced they love the club, they love the team. The whole thing has to be right, they have to be happy.

“I believe they love the club and want to stay but, as well, other top clubs offer good contracts.”

The pair were on scintillating form in the 2-0 triumph against Spurs, with Ozil setting up his Germany team-mate Shkodran Mustafi for the opening goal and Sanchez adding the second after good work from Alexandre Lacazette.

Playmaker Ozil was particularly impressive, turning in a man-of-the-match display that included some industrious defensive work alongside his usual attacking swagger.

The former Real Madrid attacker has received criticism from some quarters for a perceived lack of effort but answered the doubters in emphatic fashion as he put Tottenham to the sword at the Emirates Stadium.

The victory takes the Gunners up to sixth and within a point of their North London rivals, with second to seventh place in the Premier League now separated by just four points.

Next up is a Europa League tie with FC Cologne on Thursday evening, followed by Sunday’s intriguing clash with surprise-package Burnley, who sit a place behind Arsenal in the table on goal difference.
