Report: Bernd Leno is confident that he will get his time at Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is confident that he will eventually get opportunities to don the first-team jersey of his club.

The 26-year-old arrived at the Emirates during the summer transfer window in a €20 million deal from German club Bayer Leverkusen. Some tipped him to start the season as first-choice but veteran Petr Cech has so far started all three of the club’s Premier League games played thus far.

While Cech is still a quality keeper, he made a number of high-profile errors last season. David Ospina also proved to be error-prone and so a keeper who could provide a higher level of competition needed to be brought in.

Leno arrived at the Gunners with an impressive reputation. However, the German is also known to make errors from time to time and this is not something that will impress fans of the London giants. Nevertheless, at 26-years-old, he can get better as a keeper and hopefully from a Gunners perspective, this will happen and he will learn valuable lessons while training alongside Cech.

So far it is hard to fault the former Chelsea keeper Cech and the veteran fully deserves to start for Unai Emery’s first-team as it stands. However, it does remain to be seen if Cech will be able to perform well over a long period of time. He may be one of the greatest Premier League keepers of all-time but he is not the keeper that he was 10-years ago during the heyday of his career with Chelsea.

Last week saw Sport Bild reporter Tobias Altschaffl travel to London to interview Leno.

Altschaffl took to Twitter and wrote: “I met Bernd Leno last saturday at the Emirates for an interview. Although he is on the bench at the moment he is very self-confident: “My time at Arsenal will come. My way of playing fits perfectly with Emery’s ideas.”
