20 goals a season midfielder Frank Lampard is overrated too?

Does anyone notice that the players who are called underrated in a years time become so overrated it's nauseating? Like Carlton Cole. He's not that good. But everyone acts like he is because "he's underrated".

What is with all the Bacary Sagna hate in this thread. I realise that he isn't exactly David Beckham when it comes to his final delivery but he is a quality full back. He is up there defensively with any other right back in Europe and when it comes down to it full backs are defenders. Armand Traore has a lovely left foot but he isn't exactly a top full back. Sagna gets up and down the pitch well aswell, his crossing leaves a little desired but he is always making the run and providing an extra body in attack.

And...

I couldn't agree with you more mate, Darren Fletcher is another example. He is a decent player who works hard whose contribution probably got overlooked in his early career. It has been taken to other extreme now though. He seems a very fashiobale player to praise in the media (like alot of British players) and people act like he is one of the top midfielders in the premiership which he simply isn't. He does a good job for United but wouldn't really stand out in a lesser team.

One more thing...

Agree on Torres aswell, the boy is world class. He hasn't been great this season admittedly but he has been playing through injuries and there is so much a striker can do when he isn't getting good service. He would be scoring a ridiculous amount of goals in a better team.

Overrated -

1) Carragher. Really never understood it. Why does everyone seem to love him? I first started paying him attention when I saw how often Theirry raped him every time we played Liverpool, and I thought "this is an interesting player". He's just a bog standard centre back, who happens to be an actual scouser who likes to point at stuff and for a laugh they sometimes let him be the captain.

2) Walcott - Pains me to put one of our own in here but he is so overrated. You can't really say he's young anymore, because he's been with the Arsenal first team for the past 3 seasons, and really you can't see much in terms of progress. At least in that time you can see that Diaby and in even less time Ramsey have improved a lot. Even Denilson has made massive improvements but with Theo I tend to get the feeling we might be waiting forever for it to happen. He's played in big games, at home and abroad against some of the biggest clubs in the world, not to mention some big international games. He is one of the world's most experienced players for his age. He gets to play with and train with some of the best players in the league, and still after all this time his greatest trick is still running in a straight line hoping he will get the ball before it goes out for a throw. He can't attack fullbacks like an actual winger. His finishing is very average. Some lucky chances and a certain wide open croatian defence seem to make people think otherwise, but it's average. His intelliengence is poor, he seems to look like he's been trained the Arsenal way but without the manual to hand he doesn't know what to do. He loses the ball far too often when he's going for a dribble. His crossing is terrible, and for me the worst thing is that while he's quick it doesn't make a blind bit of difference because he ends up running over the ball and getting it stuck between his legs anyway.

3) Rio Ferdinand - He's not a bad centre back, but by no means anywhere near the best and he would never inspire any confidence in me if he was in my team. Sort of like the Gallas of 2 years ago. He's alright but you can appreciate it's a bit dodgy. Overrated by the fact he's the highest paid player at the "biggest" club in the world, and Fergie would probably have paid £45million for him in todays market.

Underrated -

1) Dempsey - For me, he always looks like he might do something. Not necessarily an amazing goal from 25 yards but just..something. Maybe he's found the right level for himelf at Fulham, but he always seems to play well even when others don't.

2) Pienaar - He gets some respect but not nearly as much as he deserves. When people think Everton they think Arteta and Cahill, and now Fellaini has been good for them for a season and a half, but Pienaar always looks good for me. He has the good all round balance you want from a midfielder and he'll happily do it on either side or in the middle.

3) N'Zogbia - I think a lot of Arsenal fans probably ended up underrating him more because he kept being so ridiculously linked with us while somehow not being overrated. I like me a bit of Wigan and for them he's been a really good buy but I always liked what I saw of him at Newcastle too.

I'm not sure how anybody can like Fletcher, not only does he seem only average to me, he has the most unlikeable on-field demeanour and personality.

I think Carragher is quite good, but his golden days are past, definately. He's experienced and passionate, which is great to have in a team.

I think Kuyt is one of those "So many talk about them being underrated that they have become overrated" players.

Overrated:
Fletcher- Gets too much credit
Carlton Cole- Same
Hangeland- He's slow. He's an average tackler. The only reason he's get recognition is that Fulham play with their line so far back he doesn't have to move.

Underrated:
Guzan- Actually hardly gets talked about, and that's what being underrated is.
Modric- He gets talked about, but not enough. I think it was the initial thought he was going to be unbelievable and instead he was reliable.
Kompany- Man City's most promising player. He's young, flexible, and reliable. I'd have him over any Man City player.

1) Fernando Torres. If we've learned anything from Liverpool's plight this season is that, without good service, without having the ball placed in the right spot for him, he can do very little. I've only come to this conclusion recently; just seen too many games where all the fans get excited at him returning to play, and all he does is walk about the pitch, and if he gets the ball in a bad spot, he simply runs into the defence and loses it.

Arsenal haven't got a striker in the same solar system as Torres; if we did, we'd be european champions IMO. Liverpool have been sheight all season and he's missed loads of games so how can you judge him on that?!. When fit, he guarantees you 30 plus goals a season ffs.You can't judge him and come to these conclusions on 'recent' form either. He's been playing half crippled all season ffs! Talk about harsh - that's f*cking ABSURD!! Look at the goals he HAS scored - absolute sublime efforts. 'Overrated'? That's just criminal to say. I can't seperate him and Drogba who happen to be miles better than anything the rest of the premiership has to offer. That's not opinion, that be fact.

I Agree with deano Torres is a fantastic player and tbh apart from Gerrard nobody can supply a good or rather even an average pass to him and when he does get a pass he's already covered with 3 players around him and Rafa is to blame h sign ty players who make no impact what so ever. but he is 2day he is the most deadly striker in the box.

Yeah, but by that token Deano, I would argue van Persie is exactly the same as Torres, he is as good, but never gets to play 30 games a season either?

I wouldn't want to compare RvPs goals-per-game ratio to Torres' - it could get very embarrassing!

I'm not saying RvP's crap, but when you talk about prolific centre forwards he doesn't feature. That may well be because of his job description or his mental attitude to the game, but that's just how it is. RvP will never ever be as prolific as Torres or as efficient in front of goal. He will light up the pitch in other areas though.....
