Arshavin going nowhere - agent

Author: Andrew Allen

Andrey Arshavin's agent has moved to reassure Arsenal fans that the Russian will be in north London at the start of next season. Reports had suggested that Dennis Lachter, the man who brokered Arshavin's move to London, was encouraging interest from Barcelona in the £15m man, who only joined Arsenal from Zenit St Petersburg in January. But Lachter is adamant his man will stay with Arsene Wenger's side and says there is no rift between Arshavin and the likes of Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas.

"What is all this talk about Andrey going to Barcelona? Come on, he has only just moved to Arsenal," said Lachter.

"All of these are reports that are trying to destabilise the club, it is just provocation.

"There is no problem with Andrey and the rest of the Arsenal dressing room. Andrey is too easy-going as a person for there to be a problem. He has never had a problem in the past with any team-mate, it is all quite ridiculous."

I get off on great players.
So this story has pissed me off : BARCELONA want Arshavin.

When I heard this story last night (Wednesday) I was quite surprised. But Barca play 4-3-3 and the Russian is a magical 4-3-3 player.

A pocket battleship, a warrior who played a second half with eight stitches in his foot, a maestro who sprays pinpoint passes all round the pitch, Arshavin is one of the five best players in the world. He's up there with Torres, Messi, Kaka and Cristiano. He is the only non-Latin in that orbit.

Bottom line, Andrey Arshavin is in the same position as Xabi Alonso : he wants one more big contract in his career. Same with Lucio, who has terminated his contract with Bayern Munich to join Inter.

Arshavin didn't get the contract he wanted when he came to Arsenal. Van Persie now earns about the same as him. So do Gallas and Fabregas, we reckon.

If Arsenal are to be a credible outfit, they must keep the phenomenal Russian. At five foot five, Arshavin is head and shoulders above Fab4, RVP et al.

Also, Arshavin will be a bigger star when we see his Nike commercial. He will go in the summer of Arsenal don't give him a bigger contract.

At £15 million from Zenit St Petersburg, Putin's favourite player was a steal.

I'm actually a bit surprised to find an indisputably world class forward playing for Arsenal during this recession. But you need top talent. It's impossible to have a great club without great players.

My feeling in January was that Wenger was not doing enough to embrace Arshavin and build round him. He signed the star of Euro 2008 and didn't mention him for two weeks. It's a sad, bad season when your defining moment comes in an FA Cup semi-final when the manager leaves out his best player. Last season was terrible and Wembley was the most ghastly day of a terrible season. After that, being pulverised by Man United hardly mattered.

Fortunately, Silent Stan is calling the shots now. And the new CEO is looking beyond Wenger, as any competent CEO has to do. This board have always been far too timid to do that.

Well said

He said he didn't complain about wanting a new contract because of the high taxes. He said it's just "newspaper stuff".

I regret that we didn't sign Yuri Zhirkov as well and now Chelsea have him. They were amazing to watch together at the Euros and he's Arshavin's best friend. Arshavin wanted him at the club but Wenger said no. What a player Zhirkov is!

ARSENAL striker Andrey Arshavin has revealed his desire to play for Barcelona.
The Russian ace missed out on a move to the Nou Camp in 2007 after Zenit St Petersburg snubbed the La Liga giants in favour of a higher bid from the Gunners.

But it appears Arshavin has not given up hope of trading life in London for Barcelona.

He said: "If I have an opportunity to play one season in Barcelona, it would be the peak of my career."

Arshavin, 28, featured in the first leg of Arsenal's Champions League quarter-final with Barca.

But he was injured for the return game and was forced to watch from the sidelines as Arsene Wenger's men were crushed 4-1 in Spain.

And he believes the 6-3 aggregate defeat shows just how big the gulf has become between the two clubs.

Arshavin added: "After Arsenal played Barca, my feeling of excitement changed to one of dissatisfaction because they have become much stronger than any other club."

His consistency, work rate and fitness are rubbish. While I wish they would, there's no way Barca are going to sign him.

It really irritates me that people will slate players like Denilson and Theo and Diaby when Arshavin has given us what, like 8 good performances this season? He cost more than them, he earns more than them, he's a lot older and more experienced than them.

I should point out that this interview was done in RUSSIAN, hence it had to be translated to English. That means those C##t journalists had a field day in changing the quotes to mean what they want them to mean.

It's never been a secret that he likes Barcelona. He didn't grow up as an Arsenal fan.

If I wasn't born near Arsenal and supported them all my life I would pick Barcelona over Arsenal given the chance.

I think more discussion is needed on why he was so unbelievably awful at times this season, rather than transfer rumours.

Theres barely enough room on all my digits to count how many times he fucked us with easy misses, especially in the big games. Those two misses against Manchester United were particularly unforgivable. All those cut back passes that he sent into orbit over the bar; it was a F##king nightmare.

Even when he's on it though it lasts for a maximum of 20 minutes per game. Considering he doesn't have the excuse of being 21 and "will get better" I think if anyone were to bid for him we should just take it and buy someone less lazy.

Really, he should be our Ronaldo or our Messi. Out of all the players we have, he is the type of player we'd expect to do something special and really this season he's done absolutely nothing any other winger wouldn't do. Compare his contribution to Malouda, Valencia, Lennon, Bellamy, Young and it's laughable.

That's exactly why the media are twisting it. Everyone knows Arshavin is a very smart man. Do you really think he'd stupidly say he wants to go to Barcelona when Barcelona have shown no interest in him? Would he be dumb enough to say that with no club...especially Barca after him? He's not as dumb as you're making him out to be. He'd have known the repercussions of saying that since he'd have to come back and play for us. Quit making him out to look like a deadshit.
