ARSENE WENGER will launch a £9million bid for West Ham hitman Carlton Cole if Nicklas Bendtner fails a Friday fitness test.

The Arsenal boss admitted: "There is no way we can carry on with only one striker.

"Bendtner is being treated now and will come back on Friday for tests. If he is out For another two months, we will need to buy someone, absolutely."

Dane Bendtner returns to the club for a series of medical tests this week after missing Arsenal's last 14 games with a groin injury.

And with Robin Van Persie unlikely to play again this season, Wenger needs more firepower.

Wenger said: "There is a 50-50 chance we'll sign somebody. Even if Bendtner is OK we will look around and if we find a good bargain we will still do it."

Unlike other potential targets, Cole would be eligible to play in this season's Champions League.

And crisis club West Ham would not stand in the way of his departure for the right price.

This is such ty journalism. Cole's injured. Why would Arsenal buy an injured player because one of their players is injured? What?

Wouldnt say he was world class, But would say he is a proven striker in the premiership, Imo he is the sort of player who we could do with, Hes big, strong can finish, and hes quick, so everything we want really and hes cheap

Couldnt do much worse for 9m

He is alright. But not worth 9 million imo. What has he done to prove he is F##king class as gb19 put it? He has scored a few goals in the premiership so what, so does Zamora, Andy Johnson and Darren Bent but they are not CLASS. They are average premiership players. Drogba is F##king class.

I would rather us buy Jermaine Beckford for FREE. Proven goalscorer, yes at league one but he got the winner against United and give their defence problems all game. Leeds proved you don't have to be in the premiership to play like a premiership club. I think Beckford would be a good addition to our squad and it wouldn't matter if he did flop because he was brought for FREE. That is worth more of a risk then Cole is imo. He reminds me of Ian wright a little bit with his late development.

I wasn't commenting on his skills, just the fact the logic of why the writer says he will be bought is idiotic.

On Cole, he's not great. He's a good squad player who will get lost in the lineup after the second half of the season. That's not worth 9 mil.

If he is back to fitness soon, then i would be happy to pay 9m for him tbh, could be much more expensive seen as he is reasonably good and english

Whats this thing with him 'being English'?. All that means is we pay above the odds ffs. If he knows how to cook a roast dinner, then fair enough, but apart from that it means f-all.

I used to think he was a great prospect in his early days at Chelsea, and wondered why he didn't get more chances tbh. I really rated him. But then he went to West Ham and started looking clumsy and very unpredictable, and he still looks this way to me. His England call ups have been out of desperation due to strikers being thin on the ground in England and Capello willing to look at anything. This has seen his price shoot up for no good reason and 9m (he'll cost more than that IMO) is still too much. 6m at the most, for me.

he's playing well at west ham with a house midfeild behind him.

i think he'd be a good buy, especially for 9 mil
