We don't tend to buy ready made top strikers.....Bergkamp was, but the ones that became great were not that well known on arrival (Ian Wright, Anelka, Henry). Top class strikers at their peak cost more than Arsenal want to spend, and that's fine as long as we keep polishing up the rough diamonds.

Deano's point about the crossing is spot on. We just don't play that way and it isn't Wengers way.

I'd love Dzeko to come to us but, hey, I'd like an Aston Martin and a chunk of farmland in Cheshire but none are very likely

Wow, I seemed to have hit a raw nerve...hang on....he's a fellow countryman of yours!

No, seriously, I was only playing devils advocate with my comments, and don't think he's crap at all. He had a poor game, that's all, but I still rate him better than Bendtner

I wouldn't say he was the second coming though, and would be interested to see how many goals Bendtner would score in the Bundesliga. I get the feeling he'd score a few too, especially with the heavy emphasis in Germany on quality crosses into the box. Dzecko could well starve to death at Arsenal with Clichy and Sagna's endless supply of nothing from wide areas. Wolfsburg obviously use Dzecko as their focal point and I noticed that BOTH full backs and wingers are EXCELLENT crossers of the ball, and make full use of him. Would this be the case at Arsenal? Doubt it.

I'd be worried if he went to Man Utd or Chelsea though. Very worried.

well,I know he is regularly scoring against English premier league clubs,in every match in which he played against pl clubs he scored at least once which Bendtner isn't capable for and we all know that very well!Dzeko hasn't scored all his goals in bundesliga, but in all international competitions in which bendtner is playing also!you can't say my little Bosnia can better supply Dzeko than Denmark can Bendtner?
Are you telling me that we don't have the squad who is good enough to have and adapt an excellent scorer?are you telling me wolfsburg have better players who can better supply an ace scorer then Arsenal?I am now worried more then I was before,if you have a team who is playing in premier league but absolutely without any power in air, without any possibility for good crossing from sides and without any serious possibility for supplying forwards than I will shut up

guys you are not in right, you saw Dzeko's goal against manchester and you think he needs crossing for scoring, just for example check his last two goals in last game for wolfsburg in bundesliga!

and one more thing if we can't supply a scorer who can score more than 50 goals in season how do you think we would do with some other guys who we want to sign?he is playing in Wolfsburg(which is average) not in some big club and so what if Dzeko needs good crossings,if you didn't noticed, attacker needs to get the ball from someone, someone needs to pass the ball to him,I can't remember I saw someone taking the ball from the goalkeeper, passing all the players all over the pitch and scoring goal..maybe in games

I must confess, Damir, that I missed the goal he scored against Man Utd on tuesday and I haven't seen the previous two he scored for Wolfsburg. I do notice that he lacks real pace and scores alot of goal with his head, although I don't know the exact percentage. I'll say this though: As good as you think he is, scoring loads of goals anywhere other than England or Spain counts for very little these days, and I very much doubt he'd be anywhere near as prolific her in England or with Arsenal....ESPECIALLY with Arsenal!

of course I respect your opinion mate, but I know he has scored in every match against pl clubs, twice against man.united, against Portsmouth(when Portsmouth had respectable team) etc...we can't beat any pl defense in the air and we are handicapped in that area,I think he will be real improvement and we would be far more dangerous in attack then we are now,but time will tell it all,who was right and who was wrong,I wish I am wrong honestly, cause I know and I a have said at the beginning of this topic-he wont come to Arsenal or to be precise-Wenger wont buy him so we can all stay calmed, forget about this and we can start looking forward to Matsusula or Beckford etc...enjoy

West Ham striker Cole dismisses January move
By Soccernet staff

December 14, 2009

England striker Carlton Cole has pledged his future to relegation-threatened West Ham United amid reports linking him with a January move away from Upton Park.

The 26-year-old World Cup hopeful is due to return from a knee ligament injury next month and has dismissed transfer rumours linking him with Liverpool, Manchester United and a possible return to former club Chelsea.

Cole has scored seven goals in 13 games for the Hammers this season and during his absence the Premier League club have dropped into the relegation zone. But Cole is not thinking of a move away from East London and is focused on getting back to full fitness.

"I haven't heard anything about a move. I love West Ham. I just want to get back to playing and I can't do anything while I'm injured," Cole told the London Evening Standard.

"I have to build up the muscles and do some rigorous rehab work to protect the knee and it is going to be like that for the rest of my career. Hopefully, I will be back some time in January. I just need to get back fit and help the Hammers."

The Hammers tackle fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night having not won away from Upton Park since the opening day of the season. But Cole is convinced that Zola is the man to guide West Ham to safety.

"It's natural when things are going bad that it's all doom and gloom but the manager is the best I have worked with," said Cole, who has also played under Jose Mourinho and Alan Curbishley.

"He's put faith in the players and we're trying to respond. We're just not getting the rub of the green at the moment but we're working very hard."

of course I would like to see Dzeko in Arsenal, but I will skip that and talk about other players,I am convinced now that Ballotelli would be good choice also, and I noticed Sunderland have excellent attacking pair,I think those are Bent and Kenwayne Jones,I watched Jones couple of times and I think he is great potential, that is only some of myfirst impressions about that player and maybe I am wrong!Luis Suares from Ajax would be great also but I believe he is too expensive for AW!
Balotelli and Muntari from Inter in package,I would buy those two and I wouldn't ask for the price, cause that would solve all our problems, those are two animals that we need in our team

I would not pick Bent. He does not offer us anything new that we need; ie, height, power. He tends to have very good starts to the season but tails off.

There is a big list we could make of players capable of filling the CF role we need:

Dzeko - Should be first choice, in my opinion.
Chamakh
Cole
Suarez
Jones

etc..

even perhaps King Kanoute?
