LONDON (AP) - Former Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson was scheduled to begin chemotherapy treatment Monday after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

The 34-year-old Hartson was diagnosed Sunday after going to a hospital in Wales because of severe headaches, The Sun newspaper said.

"If anyone can beat this, I can," Hartson said.

The former Wales international was told by doctors that testicular cancer had spread to his brain.

Before enjoying five seasons at Celtic from 2001, Hartson played for Luton, Arsenal, West Ham, Wimbledon and Coventry. He retired last year after being released by West Bromwich Albion and has been working as a TV pundit and a columnist for The Sun.

"Everyone at the club fully supports John and his family at this extremely difficult time," Celtic said. "It is very difficult for us to understand what John is going through at the moment, but we will offer any support we can to a great Celtic player.

"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Celtic family are with John at this time."

I feel really sorry for him. Hope he recovers because it's not an unbeatable disease. I wish him the best of luck.

Today i was told about the sad news that John Hartson has testicular cancer which has spread to his brain.

John is only 34.

I remember when we signed John Hartson from Luton, A young raw powerful striker who definitely had talent and an eye for goal. it was wierd that we signed John Hartson about the same day that Geogre Graham was sacked. So The manager that wanted him really didnt get a chance to work with him.

For the people that didn't see him play at Arsenal he was very similar to Bendtner but just a bit more aggressive.

its that aggression that will pull him throw this I'm sure. and from every gooner around the world our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I bethink if we active John Hartson from Luton, A adolescent raw able striker who absolutely had aptitude and an eye for goal. it was wierd that we active John Hartson about the aforementioned day that Geogre Graham was sacked. So The administrator that capital him absolutely didnt get a adventitious to plan with him.

Former Wales international John Hartson spoke today for the first time since he was admitted to hospital with cancer to thank well-wishers for their support. Hartson, who is continuing chemotherapy treatment which started earlier this week, also said he was “feeling well” at the moment. The former Arsenal and Celtic striker was transferred from a hospital critical care unit to the care of the cancer team at Singleton Hospital in Swansea after progress in his treatment. Hartson, 34, has been diagnosed with testicular cancer which has spread to his brain and lungs. He was admitted to hospital in his home city of Swansea last month where he underwent emergency surgery. Hartson said today: “I’m feeling well at the moment. “I’d like to thank all the wonderful staff for the excellent care they have been giving me
