what did you think of thomas vermaelen debut i thought he did very well he anchored the defence like no one i've seen since sol campbell i know this was only barnet and there are going to be tougher test but i think he's going to be a rock at the back for arsenal he's got that aggression that we have been missing and he looks like captain material he was bossing the other arsenal defenders especially for set-pieces which is a good sign.

From what i saw of him vs Barnet his seems pretty weak in the air.

Barnet scored there first goal from a header from a free kick.

But he looks good on the ball, Good passing with his left foot.

Just dont think he is the answer to our problems at the back. Drogba is going to eat him up

Let's not pass judgement on 1 friendly game the boys have only been together for bout a week. Pre season is all bout bedding a team together.

TBH, he looked mostly at barnet. but im not bothered because i could see the mistakes me made were mostly because of rust, or at least i hope.

No one sets the world on fire in the first game of pre-season, let alone after moving clubs and country.

It was actually Gallas' man who won that header, but vermealens positioning looked a bit off to me throughout the game.

No point discussing it now, far, far too early to say.

It's ridiculous to judge a player based on the very first game where getting the fitness level up was the only concern. So what if two goals were conceded? Did any of you criticising him notice that when the 2nd one was he was the only senior player on the pitch? The only purpose of the match was to raise match sharpness levels. First it was his height now this. Give the guy a break.

lol - Let the guy settle in first before we judge him. 1 game and people are already on his back

We missed rational posts like these around the boards for the last month. Welcome back, Reddaz
