John Terry stripped of England captaincy by Capello

by Sinbad » Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:35 pm

ohn Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy following allegations he had an affair with an England team-mate's ex-girlfriend.

Terry, 29, held talks with England boss Fabio Capello at Wembley on Friday.

"After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry," said Capello in a statement.

Terry, who has been replaced by fellow defender Rio Ferdinand, said he abided by Capello's decision to demote him.

Rio Ferdinand? The player who was banned for a year for drugs? Ohh yeahhh great role model he is

Bad mistake Capello Terry should have remained captain in my opinion. Gerrard or Lampard would have been far (x100) captain than ferdy

Capello made the right move. An England captain has responsibilities beyond the pitch and he's let everybody down simply by putting himself into this position in the first place. He's not the captain of a F##king NFL or NBA team, he's the F##king Captain of England and should behave like one with his position in mind with every move he makes.

The man is a serial twat and he should never captain the team again - or at least for as long as Wayne Bridge is in the squad.

All being the captain does is make you guaranteed to be picked, and for me in England only Rooney, Terry and Johnson have that privelege and Terry is probably the best captain out of them.

Ferdinand is over rated, Gerrard and Lampard are always crap for England and might aswell not play if no manager will play them in their position and would rather play Heskey or Crouch instead.

Unfortunately with the media in England Terry can't be captain now. I personally really don't care about how much of a knob he is or what he's done, half the England team are knobs anyway. He was plenty a knob before this and nobody minded him being captain.

Personally, I'd make Rooney Captain. He'd get more protection from refs in the tournament, as captains are usually granted, and it should calm him down and ensure he says on the pitch for the 90 minutes. He leads by example and is ALWAYS trying. Doesnt seem as mad as he used to be.

Good F##king question. It pisses me off how much attention players get just because they're English. This happens in other places in the world and nothing is made of it. The English media makes a big deal out of everything English players do. Regular people have affairs on a daily basis and they don't lose their jobs or get demoted at work for it. This has absolutely no effect on the football they're playing so I don't see why he should be stripped of the captaincy.

Now some may say he should set an example and whatever...well if that's the case all footballers should be punished for their nightly activities. The excessive partying, the drinking, the smok!ng, the promiscuous sexual behaviour. None of it sets a good example so why should this be singled out for punishment?

This is exactly why I hope England crash and burn at the World Cup. Too much regard is being given to this team.

England should feel proud that its country still lacks some smattering of moral fiber, enough to pick its leaders on strength of character and leadership by example. They should feel good that this sort of stuff matters to them, unlike the dirty french and italian men football scandals, with leagues and politics populated by sleazes.
