Both clubs are hot-on-the-heels of Turkish-born Sochaux striker Mevlut Erding.
The highly-rated 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and talks over an extension have stalled, leading to interest from Arsene Wenger. His current contract with the French side lasts until June 2009.
The forward, nicknamed the 'Turkish Tank,' top-scored for the French outfit last season, hitting 11 goals in 28 games, and he has also represented Turkey at International level, scoring once in eight games.
He was part of the squad which reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008 in the summer.
Rather than risk losing the youngster for free at the end of the season, Sochaux will be open to offers in the January transfer windown if negotiations continue to stall.
And should Arsene Wenger get his man, it will tie in with his continued policy of attracting up-and-coming European talent to the English game.
