Players We Missed!!

by Jason Goldstein on Thu May 07, 2009 12:45 pm

Wenger recently said that we missed out on Ronaldo and almost signed Drogba.

I know we just missed out on Cesc but i feel the real mistake by wenger was not signing Yaya Toure

he's clearly versatile - looked pretty good last night covering at CB. Wonder why we didn't go for him when he was available cheap and ended up at Mettalurg Donetsk?

Yeah we may of missed out on a few good players but that doesn't mean they would be as good if they were at Arsenal. C. Ronaldo may of come to Arsenal and been a flop, same with Drogba. How many players have been awesome for Arsenal and then gone to another club and been a flop ? I can think of quite a few.

I don't like it when managers blabber about who they "nearly signed" because it is mostly just bullsh1t and is probably used to set the media off on wild goose chases to throw them off something that is really important, like why we have fallen so far behind Man Utd when we used to be on a par with them, why we can't defend etc

Xabi Alonso was at Arsenal but deal fell apart over £200,000
By Myles Palmer

Xabi Alonso was at the ground.

Xabi Alonso, one of the finest midfield players in the world, was at the ground !

He was at the Emirates and the deal fell apart over £200,000.

Xabi Alonso didn't sign for Arsenal, so Gareth Barry didn't sign for Liverpool.

That is the same old small-time Arsenal. That is the Highbury Arsenal. That is the little old traditional club that could have signed Denis Law but sent the assistant manager to Huddersfield to meet Law, who then went to Manchester City.

That is the Arsenal that let Martin Keown leave because he wanted a £50-a-week pay rise and George Graham would not give it to him till he'd seen him play.

Xabi Alonso could have joined his friend Cesc Fabregas and given stability to Arsenal's midfield.

He could have anchored midfield, a man with huge experience, superb long passes, two good feet, a terrific shot, speaks good English, knows the EPL and the CL inside out.

But the deal collapsed over a lousy £200,000.

How pathetic is that? Maybe that tells you that Wenger didn't want it to happen. Because Alonso's arrival would have "killed" Song and Denilson, his proteges.

He lost Gilberto and Flamini, so he really needed Xabi Alonso. But he didn't sign him.

If new CEO Ivan Gazidis had been there in August 2008, Xabi Alonso would have signed and Arsenal would have had a different season.

Of course transfers can be complicated. Stories vary on that deal. It's hard to say exactly what happened. One version says that Rafa was told Gareth Barry was a done deal. Then he was told the Americans thought Barry was too expensive and bought Robbie Keane instead, so Rafa then phoned Xabi at Arsenal and said, "Stall that deal, keep stalling, I must speak to you."

Xabi stayed and Rafa sold Keane back to Spurs in January.

Xabi Alonso is world class,we would have the best midfield pair in EUROPE,Cesc and Alonso...I think Arteta is also good and that kind of players like those two

And this is the reason to why we need to SACK wenger.

He has made so many mistaks like this! But yet we reward him with a new contract for winning NOTHING?

Wenger makes the calls to who we sign and dont, And if he feels the player is over price he pulls the plug on the deal.

Wenger will ALWAYS try and sign a player cheaper the the going rate. We have missed out on so many players due to wenger not willing to pay the club what they want.

Sometimes yes wenger has got a good bargain or got a player at a good price. But he has also missed out on a number of world class players because he is pig headed!

Look at how long it took us to sign Nasri and Arshavin. That was all because of Wenger who didnt want to play the extra few 100 thousands for the player. We almost missed out on both players and it was the selling club who agreed to lower the price not Arsenal agreeing to pay the going rate.

And this is the reason to why we missed out on Alonso and so many other players, We didnt sign C'Ronaldo because of this, Add Ribery and Yaya Toure. We also could have signed Daniel Aggar but wenger didnt want to pay the extra £5000 pounds

And how many players have we lost due to Wenger? Ashley Cole, Flamini!!

Putting that aside we have not won anything since Wenger SOLD Vieira.

Some people thing wenger made players like Vieira, When in fact it was players like Vieira and Pires and Henry that made Wenger and made him look better then what he really is.

Wenger is a tight money mad selfish ignorant stubborn prick. And he has screwd the fans and the club upp more then people think.

I just feel sorry for the players like Cesc, Robin and Kolo who want to win things and are just apart of the money making empire that is Arsene wenger and his book balancing act
