Should we bottle the Champions League for the EPL?

by Curt.B » Wed Mar 03, 2010 12:51 am

Questions in the title. Should we get ourselves out of the champions league now; we don't have the depth to go for both, especially with current injuries.

NOOOO!! That would be plain wrong!

Wenger still has the CL highest on his agenda - dont worry about that! The league would be a bonus in his eyes. You can NEVER chuck any of the big two competitions; it's a big privilege to still be in with a shout at both at this late stage of the season. It would be madness, and a huge stick to batter Wenger with should he decide to do that - not that he would in a million years!

I've just heard a lot of atlk about whichever one of the top three, Chelsea, Arsenal or manchester United, gets knocked out first, has the best chance of winning the Premier League. I think there is a definate element of truth to this idea. At the moment, none of the three teams has a deep squad; United are clinging on by the fluff on Rooney's bald patch, Chelsea are struggling due to a terrible defence, and we are without at least two of our BEST players for almost every game (Arshavin, Rosicky, van persie, Fabregas - we havn't had them otgether once this season). We're light on midfielders without Diaby and Ramsey, too.

Oh, there's truth in that idea - no question. Whoever goes out first will shade favouritism in my eyes, and most probably in the betting markets too.

I understand what you're saying, if it's more like: If we go out of the CL to Porto it wouldn't be the end of the world? I agree wholeheartedly - it WOULD NOT be the end of the world, but I'd still be upset.

However, if a dodgy looking man with mad eyes came up to me and said, Hey, son, I can guarantee Arsenal win their next 6 league games at the expense of going out of the CL to Porto... I'd tell Mr Redknapp to go f##k himself and sort out his twitch! No, seriously, I'd gladly see that happen.

I am more 'all or nothing' kind of a guy so I wouldn't do that!also I am not satisfied with the fact we aren't involved in FA cup campaign with goal to win it!I know we don't have enough power to go on all fronts but I would dare to challenge all,the luck is very important factor here,we will see what will happen

And jesus christ, we are due some luck!

I'm expecting a couple of penalties a game at least with the we;ve had to deal with this season. To win two trophies, you need huge luck.

Too tempting. If it were going to double our chances of winning the league I would take it in a heartbeat.

In my opinion, we have a great shot to win the league, but we will not make it very far in the Champion's League. After watching United and Chelsea dismantle us, I doubt we can kick it with the real big boys.

My heart is not rational and always wants to WIN, no matter what the odds are.

But my brain says that we might never have such a "weak" top 4 ever again in the EPL and if we are to strike, it should be NOW. we won't get a chance like this again. the CL? that's all luck. I don't understand why people value it so much. the league says "we toughed it out 38 long f'ing games". the CL says "we got lucky a few times and yup"

We shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket but we should definitely put more emphasis on the Premiership. If we win the Champions League and not Prem the critics will just label us as a cup team. If we win the Prem they can't say anything without looking like morons, like that jerk off Stan Collymore. The league is harder to win as the winner is the most consistent team over 38 games. How can anyone intelligently downplay that feat?
