Young Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic has confirmed that he will sign a deal with Arsenal in the coming days after impressing Arsene Wenger during a ten day trial at the club’s training ground in Hertfordshire. The 19-year-old, who is currently contracted to Serbian side BSK Borca, also revealed that the French coach has been in a particularly bad mood since his side’s defeat against Manchester United on Sunday; a match which Savic watched from the stands.
Having missed out to United for the signing of Fulham defender Chris Smalling it appears the Gunners have acted quickly to snap up the continental centre-back with Sol Campbell, Mikel Silvestre and William Gallas all able to leave the Emirates for free come the end of the season.
Speaking to homeland publication Blic online, Savic revealed:
“There were offers from Tottenham and Birmingham City, but once a call came from Arsenal, I had no more doubts. Wenger made sure my papers were arranged for and my work permit extended so I can be at more training sessions.
“A pre-contract will be signed on Thursday and then I will return to Belgrade and join BSK for their preparations. I will be staying with BSK until Ma
“I was on the terraces and it must have been hard for the lads on the pitch. United had a terrific game, especially Nani. Wenger was extremely mad during the training session yesterday. This defeat means the league title will be extremely hard to reach right now.”
Asked what it was like working alongside such an esteemed coach as Wenger, Savic continued:
“He is the man. He has incredible authority at the club – everyone listens to him, assistants lead training sessions and he just supervises. Nothing can escape him.”
