Tactics 4-3-3 / 4-4-2 / 4-5-1

by Sinbad » Tue May 12, 2009 12:56 pm

Apart from the fact that wenger didnt sign players last summer, our main problem this season have been poor tactics.

Recently Wenger has played Diaby on the left wing and Nasri as a defensive player?

Why not the other way round ?

Diaby could do a decent job in the middle IMO and Nasri is a waste in a defensive role.

And why are we now playing 4-5-1? RVP is being wasted and so is Cesc?

Whats wrong with playing 4-4-2?

We went 49 games unbeaten and won the double playing 4-4-2 with wingers. Why has wenger now changed our style?

Song is being used as a DM player but in 3 games using Song as a DM we let in 11 goals. 4 vs Liverpool, 4 vs Chelsea and 3 vs Man Utd. I’m sure Yaya Toure would do a good job for us, but I don’t see why Wenger would pass up 2 or 3 opportunities to buy him for pennies, only to buy him from Barca for £15m a few years later.

Wenger has made some baffling decisions of late….Arshavin on the bench vs Chavs being a prime example. Just complete lunacy to have arguably our best player sitting on the bench when he’s ineligible for the Champions League as well. What’s the worst that could happen? We could lose the game……oh wait, we did.

Wenger has been so negative this season with the tactics and in a way i’m glad we got beat by the Chavs last wk end, otherwise Wenger would have used the fact that we ended the season with 24 games unbeaten to jusify a lack of summer signings. Now he he simple has to spend in the summer.

But maybe wenger will give us that old chestnut about how Senderos and Rosicky will be back and they will be like new signings.

Why not? He has done if before.

I like this you wrote.I wish I have that kind of power Sinbad I would put your article inside Arsene's toilette on the door, cause I believe that is the SHIT place where he creates his SHIT tacticts,lineups...,so when the nature calls him and when he sit on the toilette seat to think about next game, than to see your article on the door and think about that, cause you wrote it good and I agree with you

Wenger blames the defence
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archiv ... difference
Arsène Wenger believes that a lack of defensive solidity has stopped Arsenal from matching Manchester United this season.

The Frenchman takes his side to Old Trafford on Saturday knowing that anything less than a win will make Arsenal the reluctant guests at United’s third consecutive title party.

Wenger’s side will definitely finish fourth and are 18 points worse off than the champions ahead of this weekend’s game. Having crunched the numbers, the Arsenal manager has pinpointed where his team has fallen short.

“I feel the 18-point gap is a reflection we have to take on the chin," said Wenger at his pre-match press conference.

"What people forget is that we were very far behind and we dropped too many points. Man United are world champions, European champions and will be champions of England. Everybody has to cope with that, not accept it and come back next year and beat them.

"We have a very promising team who can deliver very soon. If you look at the statistics of the two teams for example, we have scored a similar amount of goals. In the passing quality in the final third and in the opposition half, we are as good as Man United. We have conceded more goals and that's where the difference lies.

"We have conceded 36, they have conceded 24, we have scored 64 they have scored 67. Offensively, I do not believe there is a difference. Defensively, there was a difference.”

Cant understand Wengers tactics again today

At one point of the game we had this

.........................RVP

Walcott................................Bendtner

RVP as a target man with Theo on the left wing and Nic on the right wing.

Now would it not have been better to change it to this...

....................Bendtner

RVP.................................Walcott

Up to Nic

RVP on the left and Theo on the right

Once again those who think we need JUST too improve our defense are wrong, what about Bendtner playing on the wing, does it make sense?

I agree totally. Anybody who has any idea about football would play Nic upfront with Theo on the right and VP on the left. This is why I think Wenger needs to see a shrink. The tactics Wenger goes with are tactics only a psycho would choose.

Yep

I also think it's a matter of Wenger signing so many of the same type of midfielder that whenever he needs a Plan B he's forced to play players well well out of position. He made the rod for his own back.

Wengers tactics have been weird

I cant understand why SO many players are playing out of poss. Like Bendtner, Why is our best header of the ball now playing on the wing?

This is just crazy? its like asking Jan Kollar to play on the wing

And this 4-5-1 is killing us.

We have so many talented forwards like Vela, Van Persie, Eduardo and none of them can play in a 4-5-1.

We need to get back to a 4-4-2 ASAP

Arsenal's New Formation

by Gaffer » Tue Aug 04, 2009 11:13 am

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has emphasised the importance of Arsenal's new tactical approach to the forthcoming season as he looks to imitate Barcelona's 4-3-3 formation with flexible forward play.

Kolo Toure and, particularly, Emmanuel Adebayor's departures this summer, as well as the January purchase of Andrey Arshavin, have initiated a change in thinking by the Gunners chief.

Throughout pre-season Wenger has played the same formation with inter-changing forwards and a more compact midfield, simliar to the tactical set-up of European champions Barca.

"When you play with Arshavin you are never on your own, when you play with Theo Walcott you are never on your own," Wenger told The Daily Telegraph.

"Playing with strikers depends on the support you will get from the rest of the team.

"I wanted to see how it works because we have many offensive players and maybe we have to tighten up a bit in midfield to keep balance between offence and defence and I wanted to see how it works. I am quite happy with it."

Ironically, the only other Premier League outfit who have regularly played the same way are Manchester United, but as a result of Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Real Madrid, they are likely to revert to a more traditional 4-4-2.

I really like the new formation and it has worked well in pre-season. I hope he sticks with it to see how it works in the league.
