[Poll] Schwarzer, Green, Hart, Gordon, Loris or Akineev

Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood confirmed that the club are looking at the Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer (37)

Hil-Wood told “The Star”
We have made an enquiry for him and they are not prepared to sell him so we have gone away.

We can only hope they will change their minds, but at the moment it doesn’t look like it.

Apparently our bid of around £3m was turned down by Fulham.

But is a 37 year old keeper the answer to our goalkeeping problems? And at £4m are we going to get much in return? How many more years has Schwarzer got at the top?.. Has he even played at the top before?

Personally I would rather us signed Rob Green (30)

I know that Wenger regards Wojciech Szczesny(20) as a future number 1, and that the signing of an experienced keeper to cover until he is ready could be the thinking in signing Schwarzer. But £4m for a 37 year old??

Ben Foster(27) has just signed for Birmingham City for the same price and is TEN YEARS YOUNGER!….And is Schwarzer the best we can do? Im sure there are better keeper then him out there?..(Loris/Akineev/Gordon)

There is no doubt that Wenger is looking at signing a keeper this summer… But who would you like to see?

I’m just glad that Wenger has noted that we have shit goalkeeper. Don’t really care who comes, he’ll get it right.

  2. rc says:

we may as well go for green for a few million more than schwarzer, assuming we are filling a gap until chesney is ready, joe hart would be ideal, as he is a confessed gunner, but can you really see manc chitty letting us have him !!!!!!!!!!!!! unless of course they have pick of our squad.
they need a left back , would you swap clichy for hart, or would you take hart and richards(another gunner) for clichy and give them a few quid, i would!!!!

  3. nutcracker says:

When it comes to goalkeepers, I know where my Hart lies….

  4. jaygooner says:

The big Aussie wont be bullied FatSam tactis style. The defence looked petrified last season, he would sort that out until Chesney is ready. Schwarzer for me

  5. Seb says:

The simple fact is that Szczesny has all the ingredients to be a top, top keeper, and Wenger isn’t going to spend top dollar to buy someone in their 20s who will block Wojciech’s path to the top. Acknowledging that, you then want a keeper with premiership experience – as there’s no telling how even extremely talented keepers like Buffon would stand up to the hustle and bustle of the English game – and whilst having a British keeper would be a bonus (what with the new squad regulations coming into force), i’d still take schwarzer over green, who I feel is more prone to the occassional howler

  6. Scott says:

Sergio Romero from Alkmaar. A beast who is both tough and athletic. He would not break the bank either.

  7. arsenal passion says:

It has to be an experienced goalkeeper because AW is nurturing Scezney for the future. So it’s Buffon for me because he is still no 1 in the world.

  8. jimmy says:

i really dont rate green at all. eventhough he is in the england setup. i see alot of his games and to me he really isnt anything special. Hart (1st), Lloris (2nd), schwarzer (3rd)

  9. GobiLux says:

Loris, but it’s never going to happen. Realistically Green or Schwarzer

  10. Baz says:

    It’s Igor Akinfeev not Akineev.

  11. gt says:

Currently we have way to many goalkeepers. Even if they all become world class over the summer we can’t play them all. Time to ship a few out so they can continue their career. Even Almunia can easily have 6 years left in him if he opts for playing for lesser teams.

  12. UselessLuke says:

Jussi Jääskeläinen all the way. Is this the first summer we haven’t been linked with him? Top quality keeper at what should be a low price

  13. Berg10 says:

Not a fan of Green. He makes as many errors as Almunia and would get found out in a top side.

Who are the 11 jokers who actually voted to keep Almunia and Fabianski???

  14. stevie says:

Why does everyone want green?. Hes not even all that good and is only spoken of because hes english. I think schwarzer for a season or two until our young poles are ready to fight for the number 1 spot.(or else a cheeky bid for reina now rafas away)

  15. reenz says:

i luv that he could be the new seaman

  16. reenz says:

agree with u llroris wont happen 4 now, hes not ready 2 leave but how long can we wait 4 him maybe akinfeev

  17. reenz says:

dat woud be great if we could stump up 30m, and he comitted so no point, wouldnt mind gerrard and torres though!

  18. Merse-10 says:

There’s no point speculating about Joe Hart becuase that simply will not happen. Man City will not sell him and we do not need a young keeper. We need an experienced hand to fill in while Szczesny gets more games under his belt. Make no mistake this boy has everything you could want in a keeper and will be our future number one.

Green is a decent keeper but that’s it, just decent. He’s not world class, he’s not commanding and we cost probably in the region of £8m-£10m. Not worth it.

Schawarzer would be a good signing for 2 years before handing over the gloves to the boy who will be our number one for the following 10 years.

Gordon is not good enough, Paul Robnson has ne ver been good enough and whilst Buffon would be a great signing i really cannot see that ever happening. Reina again would a great signing but that will not happen either.

  19. Karen says:

AkinFeev he is, mates). I’d take Hart by the way. Schwarzer seems like a good short term solution as well

  20. Campcesc says:

Can’t see the point in signing a 37 year old? We might aswell bring back mad Jens on a free then was £4m on this guy who has never played in the champions league

  21. Abhishek says:

we need someone like reina. akinfeev or lloris will need atleast 1-2 seasons to get used to the intensity. i dont think we have that much time to experiment.

  22. gazgooner says:

Yep, agree with ya jaygooner…there seems little doubt where the long term future lies for our goalkeeping position. Chesney (yeah I know that’s now how its spelt but hell I can’t even speak English let alone Polish) needs a couple of years understudying a big tough bastard who won’t let opposition forwards push him around. Mark S has the presence, the experience and the balls to boss the six yard box. He’s strong and a very capable keeper. Two or three years will be enough to mould the new #1 so in my mind there would be no better signing than the great Aussie – but maybe that’s coz I’m a proud Aussie too :) )

  23. rico says:

    Hi AA,

I’d go for Gordon, Shwarzer or another oldie, just to give Chesney a couple of more seasons to be ready for the no1…
