Wenger Hints..NO MORE SIGNING

Last night in his post match interview Wenger was asked “if he would be bringing anymore defenders in” and he replied

‘ “I believe what is important is that we focus on the qualities we have and do not worry too much. I think it is important to continue to develop the qualities we have started since the beginning of the season and if the opportunity comes we will take it”…. {watch video [Here]}

Now lets wait a sec… A few days ago Wenger said ” We were short of numbers at the back and he would be looking at signing one more defender” and that was BEFORE Sol Campbell joined Newcastle?

So why has Wenger now changed his tune? ….. I have no doubt that our transfer dealings are now done… But maybe Wenger will push the boat out and resign Silvestre for 2 more years?

Wenger will tell the fans that he will be up until midnight on deadline day working hard to bring in new faces. but come midnight we are going to be left waiting.. and nothing.

Then afew days later Wenger will say “We came very close to doing a deal but it didn’t work out”

Now hang on, Arsene’s attempts to resolve the defensive problem have been going on for several seasons now.

Based on his efforts to date to fix this massive weakness in the team, which has I conclude that Arsene is a massive, massive flop.

We have allowed FOUR CBs to leave this summer for FREE and replaced them with an unknown CB with the physique of Marc Randall.

And what if Vermaelen picks up an Injury during the season??

And what about the Keeper? Who is going to be our number ONE?? And the backup DM for Song?.. I pray its not Denilson or Diaby being asked to do the dirty work when Song picks up his 10 yellow card of the season.. Or maybe Wenger will use Nasri again? …Oh god please Arsene stop being a tight sod and go and sign Kompany who can do both jobs.

Worried yet? …..You should be, But in Arsene we trust right?

This is much of the same over the last four summers, Wenger hinting that he would invested and then backtracking and letting us down? …Where is all this money that we apparently have?

I tell you something, If we go into the season with our current squad we are going to be lucky to finish in the top FIVE!!

And then what?… What will the “in Arsene we trust brigade” do then?… Blame the board? Blame the players? Blame the pitches? Blame the refs? Blame the other team for being to hard?….No we did all of them already since 2005.

No doubt this is going to have the “AKB” calling for me to go and support the scum down the road, or pick out the odd spelling mistake to take the attention away from from the facts… But it time some of you so called Arsenal fans smelt the coffee.

We need a manager who cares more about making a profit and balancing the book. I hope this summer is his last as our manager.

Wenger already said we are short at the back, and that was before Sol left. We’ll almost certainly be buying another centreback. Whether it’s a first class, first choice player like Mertesacker, or a fourth choice fill in is another question.

Look I have a friend at the club and I can confirm that we will be bringing in a CB the first choice is Jags from Everton but it looks like we might have to go elsewhere.
Also we are on a look out for a GK but clubs are inflating prices and its only Man City buying it will pick up in two weeks time.
I can also confirm the only players that could leave are Alumia and maybe Cilchy (if we get a bid of 15m) as we have gibbs already comint through

I did not have time to read through all your replies, but i can tell you this. Arsenal are going to be short again, come the end of the season. Injuries and fatigue to the stars in the team is inevitable. All the teams in the top 6 has bolstered their teams not just with better players but also bigger players, to kick our boys around.

I believe Wenger has a suprise or two up his sleeve, but unlike the catalan tap up merchants, The Mighty Arsenal conducts it’s business in a proper manner. If it is marquee signings you want, have a Man City scarf cos they are the only ones with the dosh to pay silly money for dross. So far it’s feeling like deja vu from the last 4 or 5 transfer windows, so the pessimission and moaning is entirely understandable. Hnic, can you please fill me in on all these big, quality signings that the top 6 from last year have signed because from my memory the only team to make any sort of signings in this over inflated Market would be the money bags at Man City.

The reason that fans are happy with AW over the past 4 years without a trophy is because they are smart enough to realise that no other manager could have kept us in the top 4 whilst we were spending millions on a new stadium, ensuring the club has a future, unlike the majority of Prem clubs these days who are all destined to go under due to crippling debts.

We had no money to spend and had to let great players go in order to ensure financial stability, and all the time Wenger kept us up there.

However, I think it’s fair to say that now the financial situation of the club looks much better, and funds are seemingly available, then we should be looking to strengthen areas such as GK and CB. But remember that money doesn’t buy success. Chelsea won nothing of note until Mourinho came to the club, fortunately, we already have a great manager, just need a couple of players and a bit of look to ensure success for the next few years.

Wenger has been a brilliant manager for this club and I certainly don’t want to see him go but surely he can’t go into another season without a top class keeper and a properly stocked defence. How many times are we going to go into the ‘business end’ of the season bemoaning injuries.
Some of the stick Wenger gets is warranted. Check out the archived news section on Arsenal.com and you’ll see that he says the same things every summer. May is full of optimism and promises of new signings being made early in the summer, June is quiet, July the first signs of a backtrack appear, August is ‘if we can do it we are prepared to work till midnight on the 31st August and September is ‘one day I will tell you how close we were to signing xxx’.

Just one question, Arsene is a very intelligent man, certainly more so than you or I and you think the answer to our success is easy, do you really think he can’t grasp what you find so obvious or is deliberately trying to hobble us, or maybe, just perhaps, the situation is actually more complex then you grasp. Perhaps the really good defenders are not available and the promising trailblazers are actually no better than our own up and coming defenders who are looking to brake through. Perhaps many other reasons.

Last week Arsene said we were short defensively (everyone assumed we were after a defender but think about it a goalie is also a defensive player as is DM). If you look at who is playng more than their fair share of games in the friendlies there are a couple of guys who seem to be punching well above their weight ie Frimpong and Nordveit. If you remember they also tried to bring back Botelho but that was refused.

Now he is saying (about transfers) don’t worry guys and genuinely appears relaxed with his options. Surely therefore he has either got a player lined up but is keeping it on the low as all good poker players would or he has seen enough from Frimpong and Nordveit to think no one out there (who is available) is better than them. Declaring your intensions early would salve your fragile heart but would also alert other clubs like Man City to jump in knowing that our scouting system is pretty reliable and start a bidding war we couldn’t win. Would you really rather that?

But what is most funny is the endless queue of posters declaring Wenger to be an idiot whilst mis-spelling their comment.
