   I can’t agree more.
   I think the reason Wenger does not want to sign them is because he will have to pay 4 or 5 weeks wages for nothing.
   However, if he buys them now, he can gel them together in pre-season and then they will be ready for the season.

   well said! I completely agree. Wenger coming out and saying no clubs have made moves is bs considering man u and liverpool have been active. We know what the issues are with the team so wenger needs to go out there and get players before other clubs get involved. Knowing that we wont pay wages in comparison to some other top clubs it is very important to complete transfers quickly.

   This (sadly) encapsulates the situation very well. Almost all serious Arsenal fans that I know have lost faith in Wenger and my own feeling is that his ability in the transfer market was greatly enhanced by the work of David Dein who was far more ambitious for the club than the more patrician members of the Board.
   It is clear that saving a million or two on fees/wages matters to the club more than success on the field.Stan Kroenke has proved his usual silent self and Wenger chooses to speak to French newspapers and TV rather than address us,the people who ultimately are the fabric of the club..The article is absolutely right in pointing to the difference in approach between Man United and us.They identified targets and did the necessary business.They now know their squad for next season.If Wenger knows ours I’d be astonished.Yet we have a vital Champions League qualifier in early August and a very hard start to the season . Frankly Wenger is getting to be beneath contempt as his “model” of recruiting talent who leave for ambitious clubs as they reach their peak only to be replaced by makeweights and cheaper,less talented players is exposed for the folly it is.
   Arsenal need very big statements of positive intent in the form of signings who will motivate the other players as much as the fans.But this lot don’t understand that and if we slip down the league as a result they will reap the whirlwind.

   The issue is not buying now, the issue is buying the right player. If that takes till the end of the transfer window then so be it. There’s only been few actual transfers up to now, rumours and gossip in the gutter press are not actual transfers! So what that Manu and Liverpool have bought some overpriced players, this is not relevant for us.

    how do all the fans on all the forums know that we are not in negotiations for players with clubs?
    its insane to think that its a good idea to let the whole world know which players you want to buy and which to sell.
    transfer of players is a business process which involves many parties in most instances and international legal contracts which dont happen over night. most players will return this week so players can now be reached.

    re nasri its time to move him on preferably abroad if not then to the highest bidder.
    he is not a top player as we have witnessed, only a decent six months out of 3 years so far.
    hes too arrogant and his misses against bolton and his no show in the carling cup final shows that when its time to deliver to win the so called silverware that he so desires he is a let down and more responsible for the lack of silverware then the club.

    You’ve got to be kidding me. So because other teams haven’t done anything, that gives us license to also be inactive??? You seem to be one of those supporters so deep inside Wenger’s arse that you fail to see any other perspective. You can’t surely tell me you’re not concerned with the going on’s at Arsenal in the last few years. And to be honest, I, and a majority of other supporters couldn’t give a rat’s arse about what “other” clubs do. The onus was on Arsenal to improve the squad after last season, and has been for the last 6 years, and we’ve been left wanting countless times… This year seems no different so far.

    Signing top players early sends a positive message to supporters (after the season we just had and the 6.5% rise) and players in the squad, and also gives the new players more time to settle in.

    The problem with Arsene FC is that we -fans are disrespected by our manager and board.
    It’s all about the money here at AFC. I have heard that more than 2000 supporters haven’t renewed. That’s great news. Maybe that will teach them something.

    United have won a trophy, yet thet still signed 3 quality players. We have won f**k all in 6 years and are going to lose 3 influental, world class players.
    That’s just shows you something.

    We need to keep Nasri and Fab, buy a big, strong defender, a world class lb, cdm, a winger and someone like Eto’o or Benzema. And Eto’o is affordable since he wants to come to England.
    We can only dream. We will end up without Fabregas and Samir and we will sign Gervinhio, some cr*p defender and maybe some average midfielder.

    Please guys, protest. It’s the only thing we can do.

    You need to understand that we fund our club with funds that are football related. We have real people sitting in our stadium not oil tankers bringing in the wealth.
    The supporters can afford to pay Nasri a certain wage but a clubs load of crude financing them can double his salary.
    And I’d rather have TV than any other CB in the league, and the Kos isn’t far behind, we just need to up the workrate and protect them more.

    I think Wenger and Arsenal have already lodged bids for players but will only allow these bids to become public once they know who the definite outgoing players are and the transfer fees involved.     As the author of the article I am pleased most people seem to agree with the sentiments, I have trusted Wenger in previous summers hoping the big signing would happen but all too often it hasn’t and I have felt deflated and the season has fallen apart when the squads inadequacies became apparent. I love the club and have supported them since 1968, arsenal come first, before any individual even one like Wenger who has given us so much.

    Paul. In that case you will remember we never even had a roof over the last 1/4 of our great stadium. Now our turnover is the fourth biggest in the world of any club.. not only because of Arsene but he has done a lot.     David- from memory of the money spent league table I saw at the end of the season, Thre was only one premier team with net spening less than us in recent seasons, it is remarkable that we do so well with such small investment. I know we cannot compete with the expenditure of Chelsea, Man City and Utd, however, if Wenger had added just a few players to our squad we could well have had more success than we have had. The transfer budget goes unspent because of Wenger’s procrastination and indecision, we wouldn’t have signed Sol Campbell if it hadn’t been for David Dein pushing for it. I don’t pretend to know what is really going on behind the scenes but what I do know is that in the past we have not bought when we should have and I don’t want the same to happen again when there is money to spend even before any income from the sale of the big three this summer.

    I do respect Arsene Wenger and don’t question any of the brilliant signings he has made in the past, the problem is they are in the past not recently, and we agree we can’t compete with the clubs already mentioned but we could spend much more than we do, our North London neighbours out spend us every year with a smaller ground and less revenue, if Arsene had bought Van de Vaart when we had the chance we could well have been champions by now.     The one top player not past his prime who left was Adebayor, and I doubt you complained about that sale. Maybe Kolo, maybe not.

    The article is spot on. The problem is Wenger thinks his kid policy with cheap buys will be proven right.Six years have flashed past and all we have seen are promises of a new dawn. I say enough is enough.If Wenger doesn’t change his policy with getting the experienced players and the gunners fail to challenge in 2012,he should be fired.
    No manager like him has been given so much time to get things right.For the five years ,Arsenal have playing with handicap of an inferiror or inexperienced gk. He was given opportunities to get
    a decent gk but failed to do so. There were other areas in defence which were neglected.
    Of course all will be forgiven and forgotten if he were to win a trophy next season.But the field is getting more cpmpetitive and ,imho,unless there is an injection of experience in the key areas ,the gunners will continue to struggle.By then he would be axed and the vicious cycle of rebubuilding would take at least two years. Then ARSENAL could be a mid table team. This is the worst scenario but it could happen.

I simply used them as an example of a non top four club spending more than us on a regular basis, and although Van der Vaart was a last minute signing for them he had been touted as available for some time during the window.     Nick it is neither panicy nor a rant, it is a well reasoned argument with which you are free to disagree. The Chamakh signing of course was a year late because Arsene decided to get him on a free rather than part with some cash the summer before. Nasri and even longer ago Rosicsky were early signings which had essentially been agreed some time before, I can’t remember much about the Sagna signing so I will not argue with you on that one. If we want a big English defender there are very few about so getting in early makes sense, it would not affect the squad make up either as an Englishman would be home grown.

    Paul.. If Nasri signs a new deal we have to pay him £5 million over the next four seasons. So should we just sign a replacement for £15 million now and pay him £4 million in wages in the hope that nasri leaves? If Nasri stays we have just spunked £35 million pounds up the wall on a player who is Nasri’s understudy and that is just one example for one player.
    Again should we sign cahill for 15 mill just to see him sit on the bench behind Vermaelen and the Kos.. It’s easy in fantasy world but this is real money with real shareholders not another 2 dollars on the price of a barrel of oil.
    Van der Vaart by the way was less effective than Arshavin or Walcott so what difference would he have made anyway?

    Sad to see so many disillusioned fans moaning about Wenger,the Board and our ¨lack¨of transfer efforts, while also lamenting Wenger’s mistakes and blaming all and sundry for our ¨poor form¨ over the last 3-4 years. In EPL and European transfers, it is all about timing NOT speed. ‘Arry got Van Der Vaart with 1 hour left in the transfer window last season. AW and his scouts are not indifferent,inactive or god forbid, ignoring you poor fans out of spite or a certain sanguine arrogance. They know far better than anyone who has commented on this blog, that their strategy and approach have to be based on a combination of the following,if they are to get the best:

    1) If the target is also on the shortlist of Shitty, Real or Barca then it is likely they can’t compete,
    2) If it is public knowledge that Arsenal are targeting players, their price rises correspondingly,
    3) If any of their targets are British, they will be overpriced and overhyped,
    4) It is not necessarily the fastest out of the gate who wins the race, but those who keep their eye on the prize,
    5) They cannot afford to bring in someone who will elbow out his loanees and youth candidates for short term gain,
    6) They know that big ticket purchases are also high-risk and can end up hurting AFC more than helping.

    Nobody on this site knows as much about the real transfer business world as Wenger and his assistants do. Nor does anyone know anything near what AW knows about the targets he’s selected. Nor does anyone writing here have a direct line to God when it comes to who will work out or be a flop. Therefore, it is time you gloomers and moaners took your Valium, changed your diapers and developed some patience……there are 2 months before the season opens…..relax!

    Your article was right on the money as were your responses to some emotional comments spouted by
    David and others. Fact is our team is in trouble. Arsenes failure to acquire a few experienced players to compliment our young players and address obvious team deficiencies the past few seasons resulted in lost opportunities to acquire Silverware. Of greater concern though is the cumulative loss of confidence in Arsene because he chose to ignore the concern of his players requests for help. The fact that the most senior players on the team one by one resorted to publically expressing their concern was a huge signal that all was not well in the dressing room.

    After the close of the January Transfer window the failure by Arsene to acquire the central Defender the team had asked for and Arsene had publically stated he would get, was a momentuous moment. The team needed help, had asked Arsene for it and once again he had not delivered. The loss of confidence in Arsene was palpable and in short order the team lost out in the Carling Cup, the Champions League and the FA CUP. The team collapsed in League play winning but 2 games in the last 16 and fell from a battle for 1st place to a dismal 4th. One had only but to watch the disinterested performances from the majority of the experienced players to see that Wenger had lost the support of the dressing room.

    As the season drew to a close frustration was plainly visible in the players, the Coach and “the fans”. Players openly expressed their feelings of discontent by refusing to sign contract extentions or by asking for their outright release to pursue their careers with other teams. When asked for reasons for refusing to sign the issues of Wengers ongoing failure in the transfer area were the primary issue but not the only issue.

    Arsene has done amazing things for the team “in the past”. However, his performance in the last few years leaves a great deal to be desired from many perspectives. The current situation is very serious. The players are demanding changes by Arsene and the Board. With every passing day of failure to demonstrate responsiveness to the players requests the situation deteriorates. It is more than Arsene needing to acquire a couple of experienced Central Defenders or finally releasing some “deadwood”. Regrettably, it is a crisis of confidence in Management and the Board of Directors.

    Anyone that thinks spurs doesn’t have a deeper team then us is made… If they lose Modric which they won’t the still have Bale and VDV! Thats are equilent to Nasri, Cesc and RVP.. But then their defence is pretty tight and if all their players were fit would have one of the deepest sqauds and better squad players!
