Recently this has been debated on the forum, who is the better right back? Eboue Vs Sagna.
Eboue is a player who is fantastic going forward but weak defending.
And Sagna is a player who is solid at the back but very poor coming forward?
Who would you rather have?
Its funny that last season some fans were saying that Sagna was the best RB in the league and moaning about how poor Eboue was.
How things have turned around.
Sagna is a good defender but when it comes to going forward he is one of the worst RB we have had at Arsenal for some time.
Dixon & Lauren were very good attacking players.
Sagna gives us nothing going forward, his crossing is poor and I cant remember him getting an assist unlike Eboue. As seen this weekend, Eboue gives us so much going forward, Setting up the first goal and at times his pace and power down the right was just amazing. Something Sagna just cant give us.
Eboue got alot of stick last season and was booed off the pitch by a small number of fans, Did he moan or ask for a move? NO he worked hard and credit to him, Eboue reinvented himself, we’re starting to see the eboue that we saw when he first arrived here. Lets remember that last season Eboue was used mostly as a winger and not a right back.
Some people say that Sagna is a better defender? and that Eboue is ‘defensively poor’ for me this is a myth.
Eboue was part of a back four that hold the existing CL record for clean sheets, with Flamini playing left back!
He kept the very best attackers in the world at bay in the CL final year, not giving Ronandinho, Robinho, etc a fcking sniff.
Sagna is a solid right back, But he gives us nothing going forward, very wasteful with his crosses and he doesn’t have the pace n power of energy of Eboue.
So for me i would pick Eboue all day long…

Sagna solid? Really? I stopped reading there.
Call me old fashioned but if given a choice between a defender that’s good defending and one that’s good going forward I’ll take the one that can defend!
Having said that I think we’re in a great position having two very different RB’s in so much as Wenger can pick and choose which style suits what is needed for any particular game.
Eboue IS poor defensively, but quite effective going forward. Wenger should rotate them, Sagna in the difficult games and Eboue in the ones where Arsenal have all the pressure. But Wenger is too dumb to do that, he picks out of loyalty, length of time at the club instead of what’s best for the actual game.
sagnais a better defender but not as good at combining defence and attack, were crap on the wings and since hleb left we havent had a right sided player who beats the fll back so it has put strain on sagna to get up and down the wings too much, eboue is nowhere near sagna defensively but he can shift with the ball, personally i feel that both are quality, but theo or nasri ,well neither can beat a man so that doesnt haelp sagna, and neither track back very well which wouldnt help eboue, so perhaps playing eboue and sagna would work well

Sagna is clearly better. The first quality you want in a defender unsurprisingly is the ability to defend and Sagna does this as good as any player, he’s so solid and rarely gets exposed. Going forward his delivery is often poor but his support is decent.
Eboue is a very good right back in his own right. He certainly can defend and offers slightly more going forward than Sagna but despite getting in a lot of good positions his final ball isnt great. He was MOTM yesterday because he was free to get forward as we dominated the midfield.
I’m amazed anyone is suggesting picking Eboue over Sagna. We rarely come under any threat down our right thanks to Sagna yet we still leak goals constantly, the last thing we should be doing is dropping a fantastic defender for wing back. We have so many options going forward in this 4-3-3, we shouldn’t be looking to the right back to unlock defences. I’d only look to Eboue in games where we are going to completely boss the midfield
Why not have them both playing sagna at the back and Eboue right midfield!!
Eboue is poor defensively. Not too poor, but there’s a clear gulf in class between him and Sagna in terms of defending.
In response to OC above, Sagna is one of the best RB’s *defensively* that I’ve seen. I don’t remember him making a single mistake this season.

As for me,i will pick Eboue ahead of Sagna because it is a tradition in the premiership if not in all the league in the world for defenders to support the attack.
Sagna is good defensively but he waste too much of ball at the front.Eboue is not too bad at defence but excellent in the front.sagna can’t improve,his crosses are so bad and it has been so since he joined Arsenal fc.
sagna all day long we need a strong defensive line if you want to gain points, on the other hand we also need some one that can make assists and that will be eboue but we have other players who make plenty of assists. Lets go one better and have someone that can do both. example Sergio Ramos.
Or at least some one with that calibre.
i would pick sanga at right back and shift eboue to left winger so he can help clichy at defending and with his quick dribbling and good right kick he would be a big threat. and move arshevin 2 the right because hes good enywhere and sanga is better in defending and wouldnt need arshevins help 2 much.

Make them play against each other in training. Let sagna attack eboue defend. Whoever has the edge in training gets to start.
I had my doubts about Eboue last season and would not have minded if he was sold. This season I believe he has been better and stronger than Sagna at the back and going forward (why do players lose form and regain it without explanation). I’m happy to eat humble pie and make Eboue our fist choice right back for at least the next 5 games – if not for the rest of the season.
Totally agree with this.. The 4-3-3 doesnt matter for Arsenal as we all push forward anyway.. Stick to a 4-4-2 with Sagna at right back (defending) and Eboue on the wing pushing forward.. Have Rosicky on the left wing with (at the moment) Bendtner and Arshavin up front. Simples…
Right back Sagna with Eboue right wing, he’s more effective than Walcott, Bendtner and Nasri. Plus their combined defensive strength makes that side of the field more solid and then its address the problem that Clichy is getting no cover from Arshavin

The right back position is more of a luxury problem. The Question is what do we do with the left back position? Clichy is defending worse than both sagna and eboue and is rarely a threat going forward. What frightens me is that i thought clichy was one of the best left backs in the world some years ago. Is he too confindent about being in the first 11? Too bad gibbs got injured for the rest of the season!
i think v r blessed with 2 quality right backs! Both have different approach to a game. sagna being defensive and eboue been attacking! Just adds yet another dimention to our game!
Personally i would go with eboue against easy opponents and sagna with tough opponents! This doesnt mean sagna is better right back than eboue, just that he seems to be more defensive
Ebuanator rocks he dd it all the way to the CL final nad rem the goal wqe scored came as a result of the run he made and we conceded a foul which was converted by Sol.
One was Nasri’s mistake, and the other one was Song’s.
Sagna got more assissts than Eboue last season
Arsenal is lucky to have both. Sagna on occasion has been known to scuff his clearances putting the team in danger, but otherwise a class fullback. Eboue is at times lazy in keeping the back four line thus playing an opponent striker onside but also a class fullback.
Wenger needn’t have bought Sagna when he did. He should’ve brought a youngster to be the No.2 RB like Gibbs for LB. But nonetheless I think Eboue just edges it.
