[Ratings] 0-0 Without RVP Arsenal are just “Really.Very.Plain”

Toothless Arsenal bottle the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester United to one point after being held to a goalless draw by resilient Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.

Ratings

Szczesny 9.0 [Saved Arsenal with 2 fantastic saves, the 2nd late on from Welbeck was just World Class] Man of the Match

Sagna 6.5 [Same old Sagna, so many decent chances to cross the ball and never put in anything of quality]

Djourou 7.0 [Did ok, at times he mad hard work of the simple things, but overall he played well]

Koscielny 7.0 [After his mistake last wk he was back to his "best". Just not sure his best is good enough anymore]

Clichy 7.5 [Played very well, put in a few very dangerous balls into the box and was always willing to attack]

Denilson 5.0 [So poor, gave the ball away so many times. Seems to have gone backwards in his development]

Wilshere 7.5 [Very good game again, keep the ball well and always looking forward]

Nasri 8.0 [Our most dangerous player, tested the keeper and some fine runs, but got frustrated towards the end]

Diaby 5.5 [Very disappointing, keep the ball far to long and didn't give it simple]

Arshavin 8.0 [Good game, always looking to attack and was very dangerous at times. Scored a goal that was ruled offside, Replays show he was just onside]

Bendtner 7.5 [ Worked hard and was always willing to test the keeper. Great volley that the Sunderland keeper somehow managed to turn over]

Subs
Rosicky 6.0 [Came on to replace Diaby and did the same job]
Chamakh 5.5 [ Missed our best chance when he headed from 5 yards against the bar, If we want to win the league we have to take them chances and win games like this]

RVP is injured way too much to be our number one striker, he is a luxury player, when he’s fit great, but we need a quality replacement because our backups in every single position on the field bar left back are shite.

  2. Danish Gooner says:

not surprised, not surprised at all.Sunderland came with 4 defeats in 4 games.Watched a vibrant WBA take Brum apart with very simple measures,we are once again guilty of over elaborating but Wenger will change nothing and we will fail,as usual, nice to be bashing Orient 5 -nil but this is the Pl and Wenger simply cant come up with an answer.Sad.pathetic and extremely unnessecary.

  3. Ecko says:

Harsh on Koscielny “Just not sure his best is good enough anymore”. I thought he dominated Gyan, similar to his performance vs Messi.

  4. stonroy says:

Oh and I never want to see Denilson in an Arsenal shirt ever again. He’s done.

  5. arsenal11730 says:

Unfortunately chaps, if we cannot beatSunderland at home- Do we really want the prem that badly?
Should of started 4-4-2 bad decision Wenger.

  6. danish gooner says:

If Diaby and Denilson have a future at Arsenal i will be very surprised, they are heavyweight on wages but is all they will ever add to this squad, absolutely diabolical.Diaby is as much the new Vieira as i am the new Batman.

  7. disgrace says:

How many times are we going to just throw away chances to close the gap by a big margin. 1 point isn’t good enough. It’s getting too much to take now. This team needs to improve, or wenger needs to fuck off or buy someone, I can’t keep talking about the future when I remember one of my friends who supports Liverpool saying to me, “Arsenal are going to be amazing in 2010″. That was last year, is it always going to be about the future. YES, UNTIL WE GET WENGER OUT! Or he starts to get rid of mediocre players like Diaby, Denilson and Rosicky. Play players with more energy like Lansbury. I’ve seen him play, he is very very good. No WAY can he be worse than any of the aforementioned players.

  8. Ecko says:

Talk of the title and a poor performance today are ridiculous, Sunderland at home without RVP or Cesc was always going to be tight, we were unlucky that decisions went against us and Chamakh didn’t score. This game was too tough to miss our opportunities, I don’t think much more could have been asked from us.

  9. stonroy says:

Ecko you must have only watched the last 20 minutes

  10. Highburyflatman says:

Blimey, with those ratings you’d think we’d won the game! Arshavin was guilty of fluffing his lines way too many times for an 8. Like someone else said, not surprised at all. Wenger only has one gameplan, Bruce came and looked at our players on the injury table and thought if he parks the bus then he might get rewarded as our flair players our out. It worked and it was the kind of game we could have lost 1-0 at the death. We’re still in the race for the title but this could yet prove to be a MASSIVE missed opportunity. Wenger fails again.

  11. James Smith says:

The gunners were robbed of a win by the match officials.Believe me when I say there could be a conspiracy to prevent the gunners winning ie then you can’t win the trophies. It’s obvious the decisions played a key part in the goalless draw.
99.9% the shove on Ashvin would have resulted ina penalty and the defender sent off. It would have been a game changer. Then was the disallowed goal.
I have no faith in the FA to punish such erring officials. To me they want the red faced to win trophies until the end of time.
Watch outwhen Liverpool play the rf. There could be key game changing moments, obviously in favour of the rf.

  12. Danish Gooner says:

Please Ecko,a part of winning the title is being ruthless when given the opportunity and countless are the times that we have failed to do the most ismple,it isnt exactly as if Sunderland are in stunning form,4 defeats from 4 and we still cant do them,it suggests to me that we have a big,big problem with pressure and the abilty to handle it.

  13. G10 says:

Groundhog Day. Season Ends 12 March 2011.

  14. Ben says:

Arsenal clearly need another manager to take them to the next level. Someone who is tactically astute. Playing 1 up front against a team that shit was ridiculous. We simply didnt create enough.

  15. Ecko says:

Yes but today was always going to be a game settled by a one goal margin, if Arshavins goal had rightly stood our tone would be so different now. I understand the discontent with the result however the performance wasn’t poor by any means.

  16. stonroy says:

The title of this article should be “If your heart ain’t in it for 90 minutes, you don’t deserve to win shit

  17. Danish gooner says:

no,no ,no ecko it was a shit performance even if we had won.

  18. iraq gooner says:

how is denilson still getting starts?he is so woefull thaat its time wenger was sent packing

  19. Bergy10 says:

Absolutely spot on, RvP out leaves us very much short in attack based on the system we play. 4-1-3-1 is great when we have our first team. The one that beat barca and Chelsea, with cesc, Theo, rvp offering guile movement and good technical ability. The team that played today can’t fill the void of the missing players! I won’t pick holes in players performances it wa plain to see, however where is the tactical awareness from Wenger? We have 2 cf who love to come on to crosses stick them two in the box and whip balls into them all day. It’s simple! I thought Sunderland played well they hassled us fairly they attacked well they almost snatched a victory which we couldn’t deny them. The only thing I saw today which maybe bodes well for Tuesday and say maybe with a huge question mark, is Arshavins presence in the middle of the pitch rather than wide. He had 3 clear chances manufactured by his movement and speed which almost won us the game. If he can play off the striker assuming we’ll stick by the formation then maybe we can win both games within 8 days.

Gutted for the fans who pay their money to see the game today

  20. Highburyflatman says:

Jamie Smith there is no conspiracy. We’ve had our fair share of bad calls i agree but you should have watched manures game at chavski, mancs were robbed. We should be 2 goals or more in front when playing a team that has just lost 4 on the bounce so that these decisions dont matter.

  21. Mabs says:

look i posted this comment a while ago… what the point in us complaining? we will never be heard by wenger or arsenal football club… they don’t care what we think.. as long as the books stay steady winning will always come second… this isn’t me having a go at us not spending because i believe our squad can we the title… with certain player not all of them…don’t be hard on players like koiscney and djourou cause they do there best every game and sometimes make mistakes… and it costs us but we are hypocrties if we bad mouth them… denilson, song, diaby, squalli, alumina and other squad players need to go or just not play them as much… why not give the english lads a chance? JET, lasbury, henderson or gibbs.. we rely on these foregin players with no attachment to arsneal, to london or even england… but back to the point.. arsenal gives us a session before the start of the season to adress our concerns with wenger… and great im thinking… but they censor questions about the goalkeeper, transfer policy and everything that might offen arsene… what is the point of it then? what im bascially saying is they dont care… we will never be heard.. ignorce is bliss what ever other cliche you can think of.. dont waste your enegry complaining gooners… no one will support but they will mock you for not being a loyal supporter… nothing you can do… just shut forget about it and hope and talk wit your mates but dont blog about it… no will ever care… esspcically not arsenal

  22. jacob gooner lool says:

@ Mabs…. ur pot on mayteeee… never though of it lyk dat b4

  23. Cris 808 says:

Half of you idiots are probably young kids who only know this Arsene Wenger team. If you knew the old Arsenal and have now seen what Wenger has done and is still doing for us you would think again.

Stop all your moaning. I was at the game today and yes it wasn’t a classic by any means but we done enough to win the game. The decisions yet again went against us. There seems to be no consistency with the Referee’s this season.

If you can give the Penalty against us at Newcastle then the shove in the back of Arshavin HAS to be a penalty no matter if he still takes the shot or not.

I do agree that Denilson seems to of gone backwards in his development and it doesn’t surprise me seeing Jack Wilshere come and take his place, but Denilson should be trying to show he is just as good but unfortunately he hasn’t.

We are still very much in the title race. Calm down boys!

  24. nobert says:

why blame the manager when the ref blatantly influenced the result.why was the linesman so redfaced if he thought he was right, i guess he knew he was cheating.

  25. Sammy says:

We’ve been pathetic in several games this season, but tonite was not one of those nights. I think the boys played quite well considering that the spine of the team was missing in Fabregas, Van Persie (and although since a long time Vermaelen’s) injury. We did create plenty of chances. Nasri’s freekick was extremely well saved and Chamakh’s header hit the post. But the two clear chances we created was robbed by the Referee. How can that not be a penalty when Arshavin was pushed with both hands from behind and he miscued the shot as a result after losing his balance. And Arshavin was again onside when he was incorrectly flagged offside. I think there’s a “no penalty to Arsenal” campaign going on! The Ref robbed us 2 points!

  26. Davi says:

Good ratings except diaby and chamakh, but I dont agree with your title and overall assessment. Granted we probably would have scored a goal with rvp up front, but we came extremely close a number of times today anyway. Sunderland defended well, but arshavin probably would have scored were it not for an incorrect offside call, and the sunderland gk’s saves from bendtner and nasri’s fk were exceptional.
Chamakh really livened things up when he came on, and he was no more guilty than anyone else for our failure to win the game (7+), and without diaby we might well have lost today. It’s definitely true that abou dallied too much at times, and slowed us down going forward, but he did a lot to stop sunderland’s attacks, so deserves a respectable 6 at the very least. Denilson did a similar job but gave the ball away cheaply in dangerous areas a bit too often imo.
Overall I thought it was a good performance, and on another day we would have won. It happens. We have at least made progress from a week ago and are now only one win away from level points with Utd. Hopefully cesc will be back soon, with rvp not far behind. It’s a shame we always get these injuries at the same time. Our attacking when it consists of cesc, nasri, rvp and walcott, with wilshere and song attacking deeper, is the best in the league imo, but we so rarely get to see it in action.

  27. Cris 808 says:

    http://yfrog.com/f/hsum46j/

Proof Arshavin was onside. We done enough to win the game but yet again poor decisions from the officials. On a day when Fifa ban snoods yet totally ignore the need for Technology in football.

  28. timtim gunner says:

we really are nothing but a tooth less lion when we have rvp out and
the heart thats fabregas i really dont know what to say we have a chance to get silver ware and they blow it ……and todays game would have seen as withing range of man u which would make them so nervous arsenal looks like a team of jokers to the media.im an arsenal fan but all this dissappoint leaves me thinking if we could jus buy a striker insteed of chamack we would have been better off

  29. Shock! says:

Yet again our all knowing untouchable manager underestimates the opposition, plays his bum boys Diaby and Denilson (the calamity brothers) and we drop points at home.
Barca will spank us Tuesday followed by United Saturday and we will do our usual all to nothing in one week!
    Bravo

  30. paddy mutuma says:

jus wznt our lucky day, missed a couple chances&their goalkeeper saved our best chances.guyz played a dissent game, they jus hv to be more focused during these last rounds of the games&put away clear chances otyerwise we wl luk bak on results like the newcastle&this one as potential party spoilers for us.go gunners!!gooner for life&in arsene i strongly believe

  31. Dayo says:

Denilson?not just gud enough for Arsenal.

  32. Innosky says:

Ecko you are spot on mate.Arsenal did all they could but the match officials had a different game plan. What a shame to the English game!!!If Arsene Wenger would rightfully comment on the poor officiating he will be punished, but these heartless officials make such shameful decisions and no one dare touch them.So what is the point of teams preparing so hard when the final men in charge of officiating in these games come with their minds already made up on the outcome of the game. This is really frustrating. Who will deliver us from this great wickedness? To those who only see our players at fault, how would you have commented if Arsenal had won this game by 2-0 considering that we had a clear penalty deserving a sending off denied and a clear goal called for offside? Who knows if any of our chances would have gone in they would have been called off for an invisible infringement. To me the officials just did not want us to win. There is no point in fighting by words against each other and let these heartless saddists go scot free.

  33. Max says:

the ref fucked us in the arse today. we would have won 2-nil if that wanker wasn’t blind

  34. PaulK says:

The negativity against Wenger and constant calls for hos firing bt these “supporters” is ridiculous. They have no idea how far that man has brought us. We’re currently lined up for a glorious next 5 years because of his and the management’s planning & leadership. Every team including United & Barca have bad games & losses.

These negative supporters should be forbidden from celebrating our coming successes. If we’d follow their constant callings for Arsene’s head we wouldn’t even be in this position: 2nd in PL, up against Barca, QF against United in FA Cup. They shouldn’t be called “supporters”.

  35. gooner91 says:

its stupid really, arshavin would have got a penalty if he hadnt of shot and just gone down, yet because hes honest and tries to shoot he doesnt get the penalty, yes we were poor at times, but if were going to score legitimate goals that are disallowed and be denied blatent penalties then what else can we do?

  36. Velid says:

i agree with sammy. it wasn’t worse performance than others, it was pretty usual. wilshere, nasri, arshavin great, denilson, diaby awful, sagna good until he has to cross… usually, this is enough to win, but not if the ref wants it to be different

  37. JAMES GUNNER 88 says:

So the red faced must be laughing all the wy to bed. Bf the ko,I had a feeling Bruce was under orders to stifle the gunners which he did in great style. Perhaps Wenger could get some ideas from Bruce on how to neutralize Messi and company.
Arsenall can only blame themselves and could coont nthemselves fortunate not to lose. When they were at Sunderland it was passing here and there a thousand times. It required Ashvin to force Bamble to push him. It was an iron clad penalty. The Sunderland defender should have been sent off. That’s why I agree with the conspiracy theory.
I don’t know how such refs can escape punishment for such glaring blunders. The fact they don’t get punished and go to referee again reinforces my belief the FA aint going to let a Fm win trophies and the conspiacy plot.
Say what you like. The gunners were again undone by the referee as in othe matches most notably the Newcastle game.It will be a miracle if the gunners can win trophies playing against 12/13 or even 14 men.

  38. John says:

I watched the game and too be honest we didn’t deserve to win. For at least 65 minutes there was no intent to win, no real pressure to score a goal and in truth the game was played at a snails pace, you really start to wonder if any of the players are aware they’re playing to win the league and more worryingly even care.

Another question that needs to be asked is why Wenger at 0-0 sticks to 4-5-1 with bendtner on the right of midfield. Sunderland were offering no attacking threat and Wenger still won’t change to a formation to give us more chance to score. People are constantly complaining that Sagna and Clichy don’t and can’t cross but this is mainly because no ones in the box.

Also Diaby and Denilson are far to big a drop in quality to start will both of them, both spend the entire game giving the ball away and putting the team under pressure.

  39. big ernie says:

BIG mistake putting Denilson and Diaby in together ….. both too slow with no vision, Denilson was soooo sloppy and Diaby slowed everything down. I don’t think Denilson wants to be at Arsenal anymore, he was dire !! I’d much prefer getting a loanee back and even giving Ramsey a go ….. even with a year out he couldn’t of been any worse than those two …. I all comes back to the same owd same owd …. WE NEED A LEADER ON THE PITCH and we don’t have any !! personally, I would have given Jack W the armband as he is the only one that looks like he cares at the moment – We have got to sort this or he won’t want to hang around and with Cesc going in the summer, we need something or someone to get the team going ……. Personally I don’t think Sunderland played / defended that well, I just think we had no heart or desire to win :0( sad but True … The dark clouds loom again, I think united will beat Liverpool and extend their lead, we will go down heavily at Barca (if we play anything like we did yesterday) and United will turn us over in the cup – My heart doesn’t want to believe this, but my head tells me I am right …. lets hope my heart wins out !!

  40. femi says:

Wenger is not a serious coach desirous of trouphy. He need to be anxious for goal and make changes on time. Why didn’t he remove diaby before time? Why is Ramsy not used? Must he wait for 65 min before changes?

  41. lee says:

Denilson. The worst midfielder we’ve had for 25yrs.

  42. chris says:

The FA is filled with fat sausages! Those mindless ill-thinking banana eating maggot circus monkey’s have no clue how football should be governed. The standard of the EPL ref’s is so bad that now, every game-week that goes by, there is a massive talking point that goes along with it from some screw they have made. This is the fault of the FA.

As for Arsenal, a penalty and a goal that should of stood probably would of seen us win this game. Everyone would of been happy, but the truth is, and we have seen it for how many years now, no Van Persie and Arsenal are useless up front. For the last 5 seasons, same old story, talk about a repetitive story.

As an arsenal fan …it sickens me to have see the same shit every year. Its not the lack of trophies that bother, it is the manner in which everyone knows how injury prone Van Persie, how shit “Nicolas world class striker in 3years chewing fucking bubble gum all the time Bendtner” is. Arsenal need one more quality striker. Up front fully fit strikers yesterday was Chamakh and Bendtner. I would rather have JET start than Bendtner.

This year I do not think Arsenal will win much, sounds familiar doesn’t it. The Nearly boys I have nick named them. It will be the same old story once again next year, nearly.

  43. geoffreid says:

I watched JET playing for Cardiff yesterday -what skill this guy has and quick despite his size-much better than any forward that played againsnt Sunderland- with Landsbury playing so well-someone please tell me why denilson and diaby are rated above these two-or is this more proof Wegner has flipped his lid.

  44. goonergerry says:

This was one win we were robbed of by officials. A stone cold penalty and not an offside goal. If either one had gone our way it would have been enough. You win some and lose some but at the moment these northern referees are not giving us anything.
Fact is Arsenal cannot win against committed, organised opposition without Cesc Fabregas-It is ridiculous to be so dependant on one player. Yet again Denilson has shown that he does not contribute enough going forwards. The squad is not strong enough to win the league. But not everyone is shit-some like Diaby are not matchfit yet.

  45. Alan says:

Liverpool have shown up Man Utd as an average side. One of the worst Utd teams of the last decade.

if Wenger’s babies can’t take advantage of this fact then it shows up Wenger’s talk about his team developing as a load of bluff by an increasing desperate bluffer.

  46. redanddread says:

By no means our best game and most definitely we are a lot less dangerous without RVP, however, we seem to be ALWAYS without RVP. We created ENOUGH chances to have won this game and had we had a little luck with the offiiciating, a header three inches lower, a toe one foot nearer the ball we could have won this easily. Sunderland were effing lucky and it was one of those days where nothing went our way. Diaby is just back from injury and needs time to get going (he was disappointing though)and Denilson is not going to give us much creatively and I agree at present seems to be at the back of line in the midfield stakes. the lads did as much as they could which unfortunatley was not good enough but if you take, Messi, Xavi & Villa out of a Barcelona team they too will stuggle. Our top three attacking talents were no where to be seen against Sunderland, yet we still hit the bar, had a clear penalty disallowed and had a great goal given offside…….plus Bendter missing a free header in the last minute, plus other very good chances PLUS their goalkeeper playing a blinder……..please not all doom and gloom and aren’t we one point closer to UTD with a game in hand??

This team has challenged on all 4 fronts this season with several key injuries for long periods-give the team and the manager some credit for us being able to have so much to look forward to for the rest of the season.

Fuck off you gloom and doomers.

  47. R says:

I went to the game on Saturday and offer a few observations. Too many people are saying we failed to win because of the 2 incorrect decisions by the officials. To be truthful AFC’s performance was poor and no where as enteraining as MOTD made it look. We started at a slow pace (this often, not always, but often results in a team being unable to lift the tempo when needed) against a team that had lost their last 4 games, instead of going for their jugular and gave them a chance to build some confidence. Denilson was DIRE and hardly completed a forward pass all game. Diaby wasn’t much better, but at least was trying to do something in an attacking sense, but was getting very little right and was also giving possession away far too often. Bendtner was how he usually plays ie not mobile enough, but nearly scored with a rocket shot that the keeper made a good save from. Our midfield only got on top when both Denilson & Diaby had been substituted and Jack & Nas started pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Unfortunately, not for the 1st time Wenger had taken so long to make these changes that we were unable to win the game. Had Arshavin taken the chance when Chamakh pulled the ball back or indeed Chamakh headed the chance I feel he should have buried, the mistakes made by the officials would not have been so crucial.
