According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have withdraw their interest in Schalke midfielder Max Meyer. The 22-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, could now be pursued by Arsenal who have been heavily linked for some time.
Meyer joined Schalke from MSV Duisburg Jugend in 2009 and has gone on to make 191 appearances in all competitions. The German international has been a regular in the Schalke midfield this season, featuring in 23 Bundesliga outings, but his future looks away from the Veltins-Arena.
Arsenal are in the race for his signature and will fancy their chances of bringing him to England now Barcelona aren’t standing in their way – the Catalans are focusing on blooding through their youngsters rather than procuring another team’s.
Mundo Deportivo say Meyer and his representatives will make a public announcement on March 20, where they will name his next club. Schalke have tried and failed to tie the midfielder down to a new deal and their loss may be Arsenal’s gain.
Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey’s contracts are winding down at Arsenal, which may force the Gunners to find an adequate replacement. Meyer wouldn’t cost them a penny, but it’s unknown if he’s genuinely considering a move to the Emirates.
WENGER OUT!! And he can take the THICK Arsenal fans with him!!!
Why are we STILL waiting for Wenger to sign a defensive midfielder?
